Heh. Paulo’s been really just too SERIOUS in the last bunch of chapters (no Dark Knight references, please). It’s refreshing to see him back to being the rough, comic relief guy.
That said, with everything that’s happened, he is tied with Lucy as the character I feel the most sorry for.

@ Hannibal: Well as I continue to read (and re-read) the comic, I think that… the blue scarf symbolizes Mike’s love for Lucy, while the orange-and-yellow one symbolizes well… Sandy luff.
Opening the locker, his face went pale and he felt all the angst returning. He had thought that his romantic fantasies with Lucy had been long gone behind him. But here they are, rearing their angsty heads out of nowhere and throwing his life into possible chaos. His seeing the unexpected scarf in his locker is perhaps a parallel to Lucy’s totally unexpected confession to him the other day.
