If you have the line art on it's own layer, use the background eraser tool, set it to discontinuous at about 30% to 40% tolerance, click one of the grey pixels next to the black line art and go over the whole thing.

A tablet will not make it magically look better though. You should practice and improve your sketching skills.

Group picture with primary shading (aka just one layer of shading) This was done with a mouse and will probably be edited/redone with a tablet sometime. I just couldn't wait to get started on the idea though.
(I know some proportions may be out, but work will be done on it)
