Re-reading this, it’s almost irritating how quickly the relationship between Mike and Lucy shifts from this to Mike angsting over taking care of Lucy. The whole closet couple to friend-of-necessity shift always seemed a bit too rapid for me.
That happens later in the comic though, this chapter just reminds me of how it changes, as up to this point they’ve both been making eyes at each other the whole comic.
That’s commenting on characters themselves, and how they act though, not writing, which has been consistently good throughout.

DAVID, STOP SHRINKING.
Time for some confliction! I was told that Mike was particularly stupid to not take back the offer considering how Lucy OBVIOUSLY looked like she just wanted to be with him.. but Mike just isn’t the type to really go back on something.. and this was merely a surprise. I feel it panned out well.. also, if he were to have refused, Paulo woulda popped in with a “YOU WANNA BE WITH YOUR LOVER HUH” comment.. which woulda ruined everything. Lucy woulda probably kicked Mike in the face and rushed off or something.. so it worked out for the best.
Paulo’s dialogue on panel seven continues to annoy me to this day. He says “Why” twice in that sentence and it just sounds wonky.. if I could change it, I would make him say “Oh, babe, why didn’t you say so?” or something.
The last sequence of this page continue to amuse me to this day, though. I felt particularly proud of the timing, nyarhar.
