to me it looks like it represent they’re walking away from the probleme and putting it behind them

Life goes on, even if you aren’t loved by someone. Sure, Lucy would be upset, but she would get over it. If not, then the story still wouldn’t completely stop. She has other friends, and there’s plenty of other fish in the sea…Most notably Paulo.
