*Augustus and Lucy walk down the hallway.*
Augustus: Family trouble?
*Lucy looks down at her feet sheepishly.*
Lucy: No, it’s just..

Lucy: I wanted to go somewhere different, that’s all.

*Augustus looks on with surprise.*

*Lucy scowls.*
Lucy: I mean! Before going home later, of course!

*Lucy struggles to keep up with Augustus as they head outside.*
Lucy: C’mon. Everyone else I know just packs up, heads home and does their homework or whatever.

*Lucy makes a pleading expression.*
Lucy: You do other stuff, right?

*Augustus glances back at her.*

*He returns to looking forward.*
Augustus: I take a different bus, for a start.

*Students line up for two school buses. Augustus walks up to the line for his bus, in the distance.*

Author commentary

Oliver: There was a fair bit of revision done to the dialogue on this page. Vero cleaned up a lot of it. The thing that you don’t realise when writing a script for pages like these is that it’s so easy to lapse into WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS, even if they seem like a simple paragraph in a text file.
