Well, it’s the end of the chapter. And I must say I am a supporter of the new style. It works very well with the it and adds some depth. Especially panels 2 through 5.

Poor Lucy, and Poor Augustus as well…poor everyone? I mean, Augustus actually looks pretty upset there in panel 7. You wouldn’t really expect that…Would you?

I quite liked this chapter, any banter exchanged between those two is fine with me. It sort of leaves us on an ominous note, can’t wait for the next chapter!

P.S. I agree with Baxter, I think this is meant to give Augustus some depth and show that he may be an *** to most people, but he has some good in him. That what I hope anyways cause I really want to like him. Its just so hard to so far.

…Augustus is homeless. He was scared that Lucy would tag along and figure out that he lives no where. I really love the depth of all of the characters. It really add a lot to a comic rather than having all static and unchanging characters. As a fellow (amateur) writer, I really love the perspective and how everything can change. Great chapter. I actually picked up a great deal from it.

Edit: was…was it wrong for me to think Daisy Pregnant was dark humor and I laughed? I need better influences…

Augustus feels bad he had to reject Lucy, for reasons we do not know ourselves. It is as if he his protecting her. Augustus is in a bit of a fix and he does not want Lucy involved in it, or risk her life.

Awww… This Page concludes some sadness. I feel for them both. But really, it was nice to see Augustas for a short run. And I do like this page and Tiny lucy in that last scene. I really think it tops this comic off in the end between the two.

Looks I got what I originally wanted though I feel bad now. Dang it.

The funny thing is, over the span of 6 pages, the new art style improved dramatically (in my eyes). I think it looks really good now.

I’m PRETTY sure I understand the point of this chapter, but just to be sure, I’m gonna put myself out there. Lucy is still looking for someone to fill the void that Michael left in her, and since Paulo is taken by Jazzy, she went to Augustus. Augustus has some kind of complex agenda that we don’t know about, but we know that he’s trying to get to Lucy. However, he does seem to harbor some kind of feeling for her, whether as a love interest or a friend is debatable. The people he deals with are supposedly dangerous, so, he thought it best to keep her away from his personal life in an attempt to protect her, even though it leaves both of them conflicted in different ways. Am I in the ballpark?

@Nolithium, As far as I can tell yes, but again I am just speculating based on the past chapters. It has something to do with the thugs from Confrontation, I think his name is Alejandro and if I’m right when ever that part of the story comes we will be seeing a lot more of this side of Augustus. Again this is pure speculation.

This arc really hit me for some reason - I guess because I could relate to Augustus in a way. He’s definitely keeping her in the dark about something…maybe even trying to protect her…

and I always had a hunch that Daisy would be the first one to get pregnant.
But I have this bad feeling that Abby may not be the father….

First a scare with Lucy, now this? Ooh so much drama. Is she getting a bit too..err, “excited” with Abbey? But As I’ve read, I’ve seen that Abbey makes for a good companion with Daisy. She’s helped him overcome a major thing mentally.

And this was a short but informative chapter. Lucy’s starting to get desperate for attention/companionship. Now that shes been rejected by the “bad-boy”, I’m not sure who else she could get a hold of in the cast.

My silly theory : Augustus does care about Lucy, but he doesn’t want to be a Michael replacement, which he would effectively become if he let Lucy grow attached to him at this point.

From the moment he first appeared as i was reading through le library randomly, i liked agustus, he was pretty much a cartoon version of me, i might not have piercings, or wear all goth-black, but just his personality in general (“wow, that was easy, i thought hed bust my face in and then break out in tears!” >:D) ,and the fact tht an event shockingly similar to this happened recently to me…
(pro-tip: playing hard to get doesnt work!)

Ho back to Paulo xD

Wow, there’s like a penny-hole of light… of nothingness, for Lucy. I’m about to stop reading this comic for a year, then come back and read whatever’s new. HA! Like I could do that. I’m not complaining about the update planning, but having to read a comic one page at a time, any comic that updates in anyway even every day, is painful.
And with such hopelessness expressed for Lucy for… how long now? It’s hard to see if she’ll ever be nicer… or ever be happy. It is a path blocked by the horizon and sh-tuff.
I hope at least Paulo’s truly happy. He and Lucy are about the only two characters I care about anymore. I don’t care if they end up together, I just want to see them get through life okay.
I don’t want it to, but I gotta ask…

I agree with Suitcase that the 8th panel works artistically, but as an artist meself I can totally understand the perspective bugging Taeshi.

Which is why I’m feeling reluctant to point this out: In panel 6 you can see the sky out the bus window despite the high angle of the shot (you should see the road from that angle). This makes it look kinda like the bus is flying. The 8th panel with a tiny Lucy plays into this flying bus thing..

I’m uncertain if I like where this is going. Lucy’s desperate pleas for attention and really putting her in bad situations. If one would recall, Augustus is working for (but not likely close friends with) the not-so-local gang that had assaulted the ‘protagonists’ quite some time ago. Apparently the span of a year isn’t enough time to get over being thrashed by a girl.

I melted when Augustus came in, his face was so… so, I can’t really find words to describe how adorable, yet heartbreaking it was.

That one little moment right then has made him one of my favorite characters again. I’m such a pushover.
Lucy’s eyes in panel three seem a tad odd, but they most certainly come off as rage, so no worries about that.

Now I’m so disappointed that the chapter is over, but it leaves you pondering about what all of this meant.

Not going all, “OMFREAKIN’JEEZ, AUGGY LUV LUCE LUCE” type insane, but more of a, “Maybe there’s more to him and than meets the eye” insanity.

Why’s the bus flying

Daisy pregnancy arc… Whut? When did this come up?

Last year it was “The Lucy Pregnancy Arc.” And then that actually happened, which makes his comment that much more hilarious.

My analysis:
Augustus doesn’t want to get too close to Lucy because he knows she would just be using him as a substitute for Mike. Augustus may actually be doing a really nice thing here by not leading her on and then later crushing her.

I love the new art style - but then, I love these characters so much that I’d probably say that even if they reverted back to the pencil-grid style. To be fair, though, this new style really compliments the characters and their emotions, and I’m excited to see what the other characters look like in this new style. (I got lost in Lucy’s eyes… is that weird?)

…I’ll also admit that I fell for the Daisy Pregnancy Arc too. First I was all like , and then I was all like , but then I , and a little bit , but NOW I’m all like . And, of course, Lucy was all like ‘cause I’m using too many emoticons.

I originally saw it like you did - as an artistic play with perspective.

Then I read your commentary and realised that Veronca didn’t mean to do that and started reading the pics literally and now I can’t unsee the magic schoolbus taking Augustus home to his apartment in the sky!

But considering that Veronica did mix panels together in the last chapter (“Carry Me” page 18) I’m sure most people will be happy to read it that way.

So, Veronica, you should just sit back and be all like “Yeah, I totally meant to do that.”

I think I get it, from what I understand FFC seems like an outcast himself and kinda seems like the kid to walk away alone. He just did that to someone else you was not only trying to solve their problem of being alone but in the long run his. Idk maybe I’m reading way to much into it but it seems pretty legit to me

I must be out of it, when I first read Daisy’s Pregnancy Arc, I thought of that school assignment where the kids are given eggs for “responsibility” And Daisy went over the top for her egg or something.
That or Daisy was forced to wear a pregnancy suit.

I got the jist of it. im just a little confused at what lucy was trying to acomplish in the first place.

I think she was trying to accomplish someone to cling to. Look at her history. She constantly clung to Mike until he’d had enough. When Lucy thought Mike was dead she started clinging to Paulo immediately. Maybe she doesn’t think of it that way, because admitting it to herself would make her feel as pathetic as Mike thinks she is when he sees her hanging around Augustus.

So, you “totally did do it on purpose,” …for reals. I’m glad to hear that. And it seems that most people aren’t seeing it as an error anyway. Just a few people talking about flying buses (mostly me). I’d say you exaggerated the warp just the right amount, any less and it’d look like bad perspective. As it is, this is impossible enough for it to be what you intended without being mistaken for bad art (except by people who are unfamiliar with the rest of the comic). If people only saw that last panel, with no context, without the rest of the page and with no knowledge of the characters or situation they might consider it a mistake (if they ignored how well it’s actually drawn). But with all that stuff it’s pretty obvious what’s intended. I think it works. …but I still like the idea of FFcat living in the sky…

Awww, I like Augustus. I think he had to act that way so his “hard-to-get” Lucy gets her spunk back.

In the third panel, the spacing of the eyes looks strange when compared to the second panel. They’re both supposed to be the same basic close-up (or look like it anyway) yet her eyes obviously grow apart.
IDK it just looks a little weird. Other than that, this page is beautiful. Especially the last panel.

Well, Lucy deserves this. After all, the only thing she really needs is to change herself — on the inside.

I think maybe Augustus just didn’t want Lucy to see what his home life is like. He lives far away, maybe in a rural backwater that he is not at all proud of and that would make him feel intensely humiliated if anyone at school found out about.

And/or, maybe he has a family he does not want anyone to learn about. Maybe they are poor and inbred and crude, or maybe one parent is an alcoholic or mentally ill or otherwise embarrassing.

There are a lot of potential reasons for someone to not want anyone to ever see their home, ever.

I agree with Fruvous, though I have to say I first thought maybe Augustus was trying to protect Lucy from himself. He could be afraid of hurting her, for one. Also, does anyone remember that little “conspircacy” type dealing with his friends a few chapters back, before they started school? That could have something to do with it.

So, Augustus bus is secretly a superhero bus who flies away, that’s why Lucy wasn’t allowed to get in, that’s why it seems like he’s looking down in the last panel, the bus already started flying away.

I think I’m starting to like the new style.
However, I think I need to see a few more of the main characters before I decide which one I liked better.
Regardless of style, great chapter!

Poor guy is tired of being pushed around.
Lucy, as much as I adore you I have to admit you got a little too comfy a little to fast, and lost your own chance. And by the gloomy expression of his at the end, something tells me he probably did want some company.

Personally i think the perspective of the last panel is good for the mood. It makes Lucy look alone and lost while giving Augustus an aire of power and authority, as if the fate of Lucy and her friends rest on his shoulders. The Lucy shown in this scene does not have the usual bravado, her defenses stripped once again by the callousness of those around her. Augustus on the other hand knows what he has to do but is no longer as sure about why he is doing it. I can’t wait to see if I am right in my predictions, Keep up the great work Taeshi and SuitCase.

Here’s a thought. Why not try going after David? He always calls her “Lucy Baby”, and looking past his obvious..err, “aspects” toward girls, he stills seems like a good friend, like any Retriever should be.

Come to think of it, Lucy barely gives David any attention. And yet she’s striving for it herself. Cmon Lucy! Spend a day with the puppy.

My net was capped a while ago. It’s a 12g plan, which is complete horse crap. Today, I finally could wait no longer, so I loaded all the images of this chapter. Took half a ****in hour, but YAY!

All I have to say is: love the new art style! At first, I wasn’t really liking it, but now I think it adds a different vibe to BCB, it makes it feel less like a drama, while still being just as dramatic as it always has been. The sunset was great addition, but it isn’t really that late is it? The chairs on the bus are a tad wonky btw.

I think part of Agustus wants to help her, but the other part of him knows that she’ll be right back were she’s left off. All alone. Since he doesn’t know her that well, he’s rejecting her hurtfully, but also trying to teach her a little lesson at life. She needs to stand up and fight, and forget about that ******* Mike!

Is that the magic school bus or something? I know buses are a little high off the ground but… DANG that view in the last panel!

You know this always confused me, when you said that if you know the characters well enough you should understand, and well now I remember why. Its because Augustus is working for that other cat guy, and if Lucy were to come home with him, she’d be all alone, she wouldn’t have her friends. And even though Augustus “hates” her I suppose he still at heart, doesn’t want to hurt her and her friends.

I think I might be falling in love with Augustus. He’s so cute!
