*Lucy watches the ball slam into the far wall and bounce off.*

*Lucy grins. The fielder and a generic student watch in disbelief.*
Lucy: That’s a home run!!
Fielder: Crap..

*Paulo stands with his hands on his hips and a satisfied grin. Sparkles appear around his head. Amaya smiles and claps her hands.*
Paulo: Yayyyy!!
Students: WHOOOO

*Paulo saunters by Jay. Jay smiles nastily.*
Jay: Hmph, nice job.
Paulo: Thanks!

Jay: Kinda sad, though.. Being so protective of a lying skank..
*Paulo freezes, looking shocked.*

*Paulo spins around with a burning fury, glaring and gritting his teeth.*

Paulo: What did you just say?
*Jay, with a neutral expression, crosses his arms.*
Jay: Huh? Nothin’.

*Paulo’s eyes narrow and his ears are back. He taps one ear with his finger, spitefully.*
Paulo: I’m sorry, you’ll need to repeat it for me. What did you say?

*Jay closes his eyes and casually glances away.*
Jay: I didn’t say a word.
*Paulo bares his teeth. He leans toward Jay.*
Paulo: TELL ME WHAT YOU SAID!!

*McCain appears behind Paulo.*
McCain: He considers your girlfriend a mendacious harlot.
*Jay looks startled. Paulo frowns.*

*Paulo spins around to confront McCain.*
Paulo: SHUT IT, MCCAIN I KNOW WHAT HE SAID!!
McCain: …

*McCain shrugs.*
McCain: So why did you keep asking him what it was?
*Paulo tenses in frustration. He clenches his jaw and his tail is puffed out.*
Paulo: I SAID SHUT UP!!

*Jay laughs. Paulo glances over his shoulder at him.*
Jay: Hahaha, WHAT?! Girlfriend?! Oh, man! This is priceless!!

*Paulo looks irritated and balls up his fist.*
Paulo: She’s not my girlfriend!
*Jay smirks at him.*
Jay: Oh, that’s too bad. Would have been hilarious.

*The gym teacher blankly watches Paulo and Jay argue.*
Paulo: Excuse me? Will you ever get over this stupid goddamn grudge of yours?! Last year is OVER! Move the hell on!
Jay: Whoa, big words from a freshman who wasn’t there at the time!!
Gym teacher: …

*Sue looks at the gym teacher in disapproval.*
Sue: Um.. shouldn’t you stop them? You’re the teacher..

*The gym teacher glances down at Sue.*
Sue and Gym teacher: …

*The gym teacher goes back to watching Paulo and Jay.*
Gym teacher: No wet blankets in this gym class. 2000 laps.
*Sue reels back, horrified.*
Sue: WHAT?!

Author commentary

Veronica: Kicking the ball far enough that it hits the wall equals a home run, for those puzzling out what on earth happened in the first panel.

Such a heated argument being allowed to last this long would be unrealistic if not for the fact that the teacher genuinely doesn’t give a damn.. hell, she enjoys listening to her students bicker! It’s her own way of watching soaps since she can’t watch them at home right now!
