Transcript

*Paulo and Daisy are about to cross the street.*

*Paulo rubs the back of his head.*
Paulo: Ugh, there should be a law against waking up this early..
*Daisy lights up, looking ahead.*

Daisy: Hey, Paulo. Wanna play a game?

Daisy: I heard if you only step on white lines when you cross, you can make a wish!
Daisy: Wanna try?

Paulo: Piece o’ cake!
*Paulo makes his first step onto the crosswalk’s first white line.*

*Paulo strides forward with confidence.*
Paulo (thinking): I wish…

*Looking down at the next painted line, he notices a pair of feet.*

*Paulo looks up to see David, folding his arms with an evil grin.*

*David gets into a fighting stance.*
David: I AM WISHING GAME HARD MODE

*Paulo looks horrified.*
Paulo: AHH!!

David: Ooga booga!
*David advances on a scared Paulo as Daisy walks right past them, smiling happily.*

Author commentary

Veronica: This comic was inspired by Azumanga Daioh and my own experiences, too! I always used to make wishes or give myself goals whenever I would walk over zebra crossings. It was only when I saw the Azumanga Daioh comic that I thought “Wow, I’m not the only one!”

I thought Daisy would be the type to encourage that kind of play, and Paulo is absolutely eager to impress.
