If Lucy can hear them there is definitely a sliver of regret in that frown

I can’t tell if its regret or annoyance that even now they’re STILL talking about Mike

@Steven To be fair… they did the same when Lucy was going through her depressive spiral. The friend group (mostly Paulo) is actually pretty decent about pointing out when their friends are going through something. They’re just… really bad at identifying those problems or resolving them in a healthy or constructive way.

“He started skipping track.” I mean… yeah. You basically said that you hated his guts. Warranted or not, why would he want to be around someone who actively dislikes him?
Don’t want to sound like a broken record, but this goes well beyond karma. He’s not eating, he never looks well rested, he’s self isolating, has gone on record multiple times calling himself a horrible person or monster, and at this point, Paulo’s the only one in the entire support network who seems to be picking up on any of it. (And maybe Haley, but she’s got her own issues with constantly trying to get out of the house to avoid parentification)
These aren’t even red flags, these are borderline black flags. At this point, I think the only warning sign he has yet to show is “making preparations,” and it really feels like we’re not that far off…

Not to be dour, but yeah, it does seem that way. If that did happen, it would be a tragedy, but not wholly unexpected, which just makes it all worse.

I’m really curious if Lucy has picked up on any of it as well. She hasn’t been around Mike lately, but they were attached at the hip for years; she’s had to have noticed that he’s more disheveled, skinny and absent. She’s been through this same thing and likely still cares enough about Mike that she would notice the signs — even if she’s understandably conflicted about how to feel about the whole situation

Just because you brought up Haley being one of the few people to pick up on Mike’s rapidly deterioating mental health, I’ve said in a past page that Chris being the only character to bring out a genuine smile in Mike’s face (Second String Page 20 and Line in the Sand Page 3 in case you need references) feels like it’s indicating towards something bigger than just simple cute sibling bonding moments. I think it would be really sweet if it’s his sister and brother that breaks him out of his slump rather than his friend group and especially not Sandy. Familial bonds feels like it would hit harder (plus with most of Mike and Haley’s screen-time being them bickering, I think that would be a genuinely heartwarming way to show that they genuinely love each other despite the awkward tension between them) and with the exception of Paulo and Daisy, the friend group ain’t it chief.

100% agree with the sibling angle. Those pages during Eternal Flame, where Haley is showing genuine concern for Mike as he’s having his entire worldview shattered and running from the house are still stuck in my head. I really do think Haley cares, and is more avoiding the house because of her mom than her brothers. I really do hope she’s there when it matters.

The Tree on the Hill is legit one of my favorite recurring settings/symbols in BCB. Mike and Lucy can’t help themselves from returning to it. Sometimes it’s with another person (Lucy here with James or when Mike tried to get Sandy to race him there) but it’s always been THEIR tree. It’s always been there. Its leaves may change, die and fall, but they’ll always grow back. They’ll always return to the Tree on the Hill

Nev Ravenoak

@nev ravenoak; wat lol no one said she can’t. she stays stuck because she’s stuck on Mike. We already know shes lowkey miserable by multiple things and the face she has looks displeased. I believe Lucy will feel better if she’s able to let go and then she can grow in other aspects of her life and move on from things. You can tell she’s just pushing things down so she actually isn’t feeling anything.

I’m Happy that James finally sees the real David the uncaring dumbass he is, and Lucy stop it, deep down you know the truth but you just can’t face it because you’ll admit you were a bad person to your best friend, stop listening to Augustus self centered lies and find your own voice and say what’s really in your heart. Mike could really need to hear it to detach the actual parasite from himself.

???
My man, I think you should reread the comic a bit… ;>_>
The best friend that coldly pushed her away and screamed into her face that no one loves her because she’s a parasite?
The best friend that disregarded what she went through with him and didn’t stop himself from using her for comfort the moment he got hurt by his GF? and later went back to said GF (smiling the next day and not even letting Lucy know).
Lucy ALREADY knows she wasn’t always good to Mike. She acknowledged that and regrets her past actions.
And what lies are you talking about? Everything Augustus told Mike was based on what Lucy shared with him, only less filtered.
None of that was lies. Are you saying that Lucy’s pain and struggle are lies?
And you know, when you struggle and feel too weak to push yourself to do something, it’s good to have a friend that might step up for you. It sure looked like that when Lucy let Auggy keep talking and even held his arm for find strength.
I believe that currently it’s not Lucy’s role anymore to keep helping Mike. To me it seems like Paulo is the more healthy choice.
Part of Lucy’s healing journey is to stop being there for Mike every time he’s down/sad, because as long as Lucy having feelings for him, and he won’t reciprocate them, she just keeps hurting herself while comforting him. It just makes one feel used.

You mean the best friend that gave her a chance and offered her friendship when nobody else did?
The best friend that saved her life when our hydrophobic Lucy was dangling on a cliff above a raging river and he took the plunge for her? The best friend she physically abused for years? The one who she hasn’t even muttered a word of apology for despite saying she regretted her actions? The best friend she weaponised her suicide attempt against to guildtrip him into the ground despite accepting his apology about standing up to abuse too harshly?
I think you could use a reread too

Everything Augustus said was lies and half truths, line in the sand and before was just Augustus showing his hatred towards Mike, Augustus shared Mike and Lucy’s toxic history ignoring everything else to just destroy Mike’s friendship with James because Augustus hates Mike for “stealing” Diasy from him, Augustus blames Mike for Diasy not reciprocating his feelings, like that slimly smile Augustus had when Mike was kicked and tried to plead to Lucy, he did what he did for his own benefit not Lucy, and Mike did care and loved Lucy she never was a replacement for sandy. Even when Mike couldn’t stand her he always tried to help her.
So you could do with a reread witch buddy.

Are we reading the same comic? Wtf?
In my past comments, I never expressed any hate towards Mike , even though I started to dislike him since the December chapter. So I’ll state it more clearly that I don’t ignore his past friendship with Lucy. But that friendship still had mixef intentions. So no need to be defensive regarding his past. I remember.
He liked Lucy as his friend but also saw in her as a sort of replacement for Sandy. It’s a very complicated mental situation that Mike has to sort out with himself.
That’s why, from the start, Lucy was acting like she did, half trying to protect herself by not getting too close to Mike and half caring and loving him. All that mess of emotions came out as violence on her behalf, and that was wrong of her and quite tragic. For her defence, though, I will say that she didn’t know any better since it all started when they were little kids. And yeah, I expect her in the future to properly apologise to him as well, and I’m sure that will happen.
BUT, Mike’s RECENT actions are what, in my opinion, currently tip the scales favourably towards Lucy. For some readers…
All the times Lucy had snappy responds to Mike lately was because he couldn’t answer her what he truly meant by yelling at her all the insults he did. He said he didn’t mean all that and for her to dissappear, so she asked him back what DID he mean by choosing those words he yelled, and he couldn’t answer that…, that’s rough, that an ex best friend won’t acknowledge properly the harm he did (+seeing her as a replacement to Sandy).

Mike ignored Lucy while Sandy was around. He started to notice her again when Sandy left. That’s messed up. Till this day he can’t sort his feelings regarding Lucy and Sandy. I guess he’s getting closer to that, but he burned bridges while getting there.
And what the heck?? Agustus was never jealous of Mike. What?
The dirty looks he’s been giving him since the past few chapters were because Lucy was still hurting from Mike’s presence (espacially when he started to hang around “their spot”, and he noticed that and started to get defensive over Lucy.
It has nothing to do with Daisy.
Maybe try to reread those chapters with this new knowledge.

Mike didn’t ignore Lucy when he met Sandy, yeah he obviously was all over her cause he was in love but everytime we see that flashback they say they did keep inviting Lucy. She is the one who cut ties with Mike.
And when Sandy left Lucy is the one who approached Mike.
That said i do agree that Augustus being angry at Mike because of Daisy is farfetched. He really seemed to have accepted her choice and always kept the promise he made to Lucy to stay away from her.
Hell if you started reading after that promise you probably wouldn’t even know he used to have a thing for Daisy
