I am annoyed with a lot of people. I am annoyed that Lucy was not called out for manipulating Paulo into not checking in with Mike sooner. I am annoyed that no one called out David and Augustus for baiting Mike into a negative response. I am also annoyed that James didn’t even give Mike a chance to share his perspectives…because as much as the Lucy lovers want to act like she was a completely innocent towards Mike, she is just as much of a hypocrite. She pushes her feelings on others and led Paulo a long. She treated Mike horribly prior to his terrible actions. I think the mike hate has gone on long enough and the dude needs some help.

I’ve been annoyed with David for ages now. He’s not malicious, but a lot of his antics and advice just winds up making things worse and more complicated for everyone involved by the end. The two big ones that immediately jump to mind are David (and Paulo) working to get everyone in their new High School to see Mike as a cheater and gang up on him, making him a social pariah at the new school and giving him a massive cheater complex that we see manifest in his nightmare. (Dial Tone, iirc) The second was David pressuring Paulo to rebound and date younger women, which just hurt everyone attached to Paulo at the time, let alone Paulo himself. David has faced no actual pushback for those actions, and honestly probably doesn’t even realize he did anything wrong. I don’t dislike him as a character, but in a comic that seems to be centered on concequences of people’s actions, it’s borderline infuriating that David’s able to get away with stuff with not even a slap on the wrist.

I’m a little surprised Paulo hasn’t had more of a reaction to Daisy’s revelation last chapter about Mike rebounding with Lucy and then going back to Sandy. Still actively worrying about Mike in front of Lucy after hearing about that is kinda callous now that he knows a bit more about most recent events.

Dang Lucy looks just about as bad as Mike does. Its interesting that we can’t see their faces for most of the pages, but when they turn those two are facing opposite directions (Made Fresh pg. 6) with hella sad smiles

While I’m happy Lucy is trying to move on from the “incidents,” I don’t think she’s moving on the correct way. Moving on from any sort of trauma requires you to properly process those feelings associated with it and accept that it happened. Lucy’s methods of dealing with it usually involve her running away from it and saying, “It’s in the past now; it doesn’t affect me,” when it’s eating away at her. I think she doesn’t want to feel vulnerable again.

I hate to see Lucy back to putting herself through hell and absolutely giving up on all attempts to enforce the boundaries she put in place to give herself distance from Mike and the subject of him. But can you blame her? At a certain point you get too tired to keep trying and too sick of being the bad guy. It’s easier in so many ways to just start taking the hits as they come and try to learn to stop flinching.
