Lucy doesn't seem like an abusive person or someone who fears commitment to me. After her crushing failure to gain even one friend in kindergarten, her shown persona became aloof and uninterested. She also got Yashy.
A more accurate description would be her fear of showing her true self to most. As she said ro Liam, she can "let you in," but that isn't automatic. How much admitting she loved Mike, but being turned down. This is a prime example of why she kept others away. It hurt her. It really did. She broke down in front of Sue over it.
A more accurate description would be a sad girl who just can't win when it comes to being sociable. So she's antisocial to hide it.
