*Mike puts a hand to his head.*
Mike (thinking): Ugh.. what’s with Daisy? She can be sweet but she’s way too much sometimes..

Mike (thinking): I’m really not that great or anything!!

*Mike notices Sue and Amaya standing in front of him.*

Mike: Oh.. Sue. Amaya. Hi.
Sue: Hi, Mike..

Sue: So.. we heard Lucy’s not going to the dance..
Mike: Yeah. And?

*Sue and Amaya look at Mike with coy smiles.*
Sue and Amaya: …
Mike: …

*Mike’s expression is unsure and nervous.*
Mike: W-wait. What? You don’t mean..

*Mike looks exasperated.*
Mike: But the dance is two months away!
*Sue makes a pouty face at Mike.*
Sue: C’monnn~ ♥
Amaya: ♥

Mike: You’d probably change your mind between now and then!
Sue: Oh as if I’d EVER change my mind about a dance with--

*A dot appears in the sky, approaching fast.*

Yashy: SUPAHH CHOP!!
*Yashy hits Sue in the head as Mike looks on in surprise.*
Mike: ACK!!
Sue: OWW!!

Mike: YASHY!!
*Yashy shakes her fist at Sue.*
Yashy: He’s not about to date either of you losers!
*Sue begins to tear up, her tail bristling.*
Sue: Ow.. says who?

*Mike and Sue glare at Yashy as Amaya flees.*
Mike: Why the hell are you so overprotective, Yashy?!

*Yashy glances over her shoulder.*
Yashy: Because I know there’s only one person you’d ever wanna dance with!

Yashy: And you just have to wait! She IS gonna say yes one day, I can assure you!
*Mike blushes looking uncertain.*
Mike: …

*Lucy appears behind Mike.*
Lucy: Dammit, Yashy. Stop hitting on Mike. As far as I know, he doesn’t date kids.

*Mike looks angry, Yashy horrified, and Sue confused.*
Mike, Sue and Yashy: …

*Sue is disturbed.*
Sue: Eww.. you’re into.. that?
*Mike raises a fist in frustration.*
Mike: NO!!
*Yashy falls over.*

Author commentary

Veronica: Mike’s gaggle of crushes is meant to be more of a running joke rather than the girls being madly in love specifically with him. So if he’s to find a permanent partner, the majority of his fangirl squad wouldn’t kill themselves or anything. They’ll be a bit sad, but it’s not the end of the world! It’s all just crushes! Sue and Amaya will be okay! They just like to think about him sometimes, you know?

One feature I’ve always hated in other stories is characters who are all too perfect.. gorgeous looks, perfect athletes, just overall loved by all. It’s surprising how I didn’t realise for a long time that Mike was drifting into this category. He’s the fastest runner, he’s considered handsome, he’s a real nice guy to boot.. and he’s got his team of adoring fangirls to back it up.

Over time this perfect character has become one of the most controversial characters in the comic for.. reasons you’ll see! But as of right now, there’s not much to complain about when it comes to Mike!
