*Paulo and Daisy walk down the street. Daisy chatters, smiling. Paulo looks bored.*
Daisy: So, um, Katie was having a sleepover.. She was handing out invitations and everything! I found out it happened last Saturday.. She musta misplaced my invitation but that’s okay because I studied all weekend anyway!

*Paulo yawns and rubs his eye.*
Paulo: That’s nice, Dai--

Daisy: YEEEEEEEKKK!!!
*Paulo flinches as Daisy screams. Daisy looks to the road, horrified.*

*Paulo frowns.*
Paulo: Whoa, what’s going on--

*Daisy looks at Paulo with big eyes, crying.*
Daisy: Paulo…

*Paulo looks sad and confused.*
Paulo: ?!

Daisy: I think it’s still alive!!
*Daisy, still crying, points to the road.*

*A bird lays in the middle of the road.*

Paulo: Jeez..
*The bird lays face-down, clearly injured.*

*Paulo scratches his head. Daisy stares at the bird, teary-eyed.*
Paulo: Why won’t drivers just finish the job?

*Daisy, sobbing, clings to Paulo and buries her face in his chest.*
Daisy: WAAHHHHH
*Paulo freezes, blushing.*

Author commentary

Veronica: This was an original chapter dreamed up for Volume One when it was first printed. It’s such a cute story, though, so I’m happy it’s been immortalised on the site and not exclusively in print!

Anyway, it’s good to see Paulo be so realistic.. like yeah, sucks that the poor bird was run over, but better for it to be dead than suffering, right? Might as well!!!!

Oliver: In a world of sentiment birds, I think I might be more like Daisy than Paulo here. How horrible!

Paulo bring up a good point. If you’re gonna do something, do it right, don’t half-ass it. Roll over a few times, for best results just stop, get out and poke it with a stick to make sure!
