Just because a bird doesn’t cry, doesn’t mean it’s not hungry. It feels like Mike is stuck in a bad loop where he continues to suffer because he ignores his own needs in favor of everyone else, which no one notices because expressing those needs might burden or disappoint others, which he wants to avoid, so the cycle continues, slowly eroding him. Dang.

…..dear god this page is so uncomfortable. Mike NEVER ASKS FOR ANYTHING, huh? It gives me the impression that this is one of the main reasons why he bottles up so much. He’s expected to on all fronts and to not be a burden to others, especially his parents who put him on a pedestal. OUCH

Oof, I’m identifying with Mike again. It’s rough when someone admits to you that you’re the only stable person in their life, because then you feel like you can never let them know when you’re struggling. And when it’s your parent saying that???

Poor Haley, Jesus. I mean this is also clearly REALLY bad for Mike but oh my god, poor Haley. It is kind of a miracle that their mom hasn’t unwittingly pitted these two against each other and Haley still seems to want to support Mike rather than holding resentment for him as the clear favorite despite not having the burdens she does expected of him.

That rivalry seemed to exist a little bit earlier in the comic, but she’s definitely caught onto him suffering at this point and seems to be growing empathetic. I really hope we see her later in this chapter, she’s likely to be the only one left to really look out for Mike after all of this inevitably falls apart, especially if he does something reckless.
