*Lucy walks through the cafeteria with a food tray.*
Lucy: Hope this is tastier than the stuff in middle school..

*Mike and Daisy are sitting at a table behind her.*
Mike: Hey, Lucy! Behind you!
*Lucy stops in shock.*

*Lucy turns her head to look at Mike.*
Mike: We got a nice big table.. c’mon!
Lucy: Oh, alright.

*Daisy smiles as Lucy sits down beside Mike, who looks exhausted.*
Daisy: Have we all had an awesome day so far?
Mike: I got an essay due tomorrow..

*Paulo grins, holding a juice box.*
Paulo: Man, I saw four different senior girls in one class! And they were cute!
*David laps from a bowl next to him.*

Tess: I suggest you keep your distance.
*Paulo and David pause.*
Paulo: ?

*Tess smirks.*
Tess: I know who those girls are. They’ll butter you up and before you know it, you’ll be doing the same worksheet FIVE times over!

*Tess turns to Mike and Lucy, a smile on her face.*
Tess: Mind if I sit with you guys? Every other table is full..
Lucy: ?
Mike: Sure, I guess.
*David grins at Tess from the background.*
David: Still hot.

*Sue glares at David as she approaches the table with her tray.*
Sue: Is that your benchmark for who gets to sit here?!
David: You pass.

*Mike smiles while Lucy looks bored.*
Mike: I’m really liking seeing the new faces, to tell you the truth.. Adds a bit of variety to the day!

*Tess smirks as she sits next to Lucy.*
Tess: Looks like you’re allllll pretty familiar, huh? ♥
*Lucy blushes and looks down.*

*Mike cheerfully replies.*
Mike: Yup, we’ve been sitting in this group since around fifth grade.
*Lucy narrows her eyes, still blushing. Tess frowns.*

*Mike raises an eyebrow.*
Mike: Which reminds me.. What’s your name?
Tess: Hahaha!

*Tess winks.*
Tess: Thought you’d never ask! Name’s Tess! ♥

Mike: Well, I’m Mike!
Daisy: Hi, I’m Daisy!
*David giggles.*
*Lucy looks on blankly.*
Lucy: Lucy.

*Daisy starts to blush in realization.*
Daisy: !
*Mike and Lucy suddenly realize what Daisy said. David continues to giggle.*
Mike and Lucy: …

*Daisy angrily gets up and glares at David, who is now laughing uproariously.*
Daisy: Oh, VERY funny!
*Mike and Lucy begin to laugh as well.*

*Tess laughs.*
Tess: I think this’ll be an interesting year!
*Paulo leans towards Tess and smirks flirtatiously.*
Paulo: You can call me “Master” ♥

Author commentary

Veronica: Lucy.. why aren’t you gravitating towards Mike like you usually do.. what’s going on..

They’re giggling at the “Hi! I’m Daisy!” bit at the end because that references Mario Kart Double Dash.. this joke was made a lot more in the older comics before they were edited so it feels a little out of place in retrospect :( BUT ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT THESE KIDS ARE NERDS

The reason Daisy is poked fun of is that in Mario Kart: Double Dash!, every time Daisy would pass someone, be passed, win, lose, or honk, she would say “HI IM DAISY”

Apparently, another cat cartoon said it, so it’s a double nod-of-the-head.
