Yashy: Mommy!
Yashy: Mommy!!
*Yashy starts tearing up.*
Yashy: Where’s Mommy!!
*Yashy turns, something else capturing her attention.*
Yashy: Huh?
*Yashy sees a mother bird up in the tree.*
Yashy: …
*Yashy smiles.*
Yashy: Aww, a mama birdie..
*Yashy notices something.*
*A snake slithers up to the mother bird.*
*Yashy shouts a warning.*
Yashy: H-HEY!! Look out! Quick!
Mother bird: Huh?
*The startled mother bird gathers her eggs.*
Mother bird: YEEEK!!
*The mother bird flies off, leaving one egg behind. The snake notices.*
Yashy: W-wait! No! There’s still..
*The snake pokes its tongue out as it approaches the nest.*
Yashy: No no no!!
*Yashy slams into the tree with a loud “smack”.*
Yashy: LEAVE IT ALONE!!
*The egg falls from the nest.*
Snake: ?!
*Yashy hurries to catch the egg.*
Yashy: I got it, I got..
*Yashy catches the egg.*
*Yashy lies on the ground with the egg.*
Yashy: …
*Yashy looks down at the egg and hugs it.*
Yashy (thinking): Mama birdie.. I.. I’ll take care of it..

Author commentary
Veronica: Another reason this chapter was originally omitted from the 2011 book was because Yashy initially acted like a certain copyrighted dinosaur… and that was particularly egregious here.
But by the time I redrew this chapter, Yashy had fully settled into the role of a vague lizard-creature that simply LOOKS like a certain copyrighted character, to the point Lucy named her after them, but isn’t actually them. Either way, no ability to save that baby egg by shooting your tongue out, Yashy!
Oliver: It just kinda got weird, didn’t it! When a character does some strange things that never come back again later in the comic. I actually spent a bit of time going through all the rejected chapters of yore and I really wanted to rescue this one, as it helps us understand where Chirpy came from and it has a lot of charm!
So it’s a good thing baby Yashy had her redemption moment here. Go you little lizard thing.
