I'm not sure I get this .-.

I'm so happy with how this turned out ^^ It felt like it'd fit the group so well to get together to make a gift for a good friend (and go a step too far ^^), and you made it look so nice!

For future context, the request was for: Lucy delivering a gift from their friend group to Mike, a handmade scarf except it ended up waaay too long.

I'm probably biased, but Sandy feels like a hopelessly sympathetic character to me despite her insecurities and manipulative tendencies, intentional or not. A lot of that boils down to how Sandy grew up, her environment, and how her support system has been emotionally neglectful and based on earning her love through adulting, which had resulted in conditioning her to fear trying anything that doesn't suit her mother's vision, if not avoiding conflict altogether. With Mike not having the confidence to truly be honest with his feelings and both people lacking in emotional intelligence to understand they're not happy, their communication has suffered. I believe Sandy, at some unconscious level, knows this - and her being "busy" all the time only created worse problems. Sandy was raised to pass for perfect (which doesn't make Mike putting her on a pedestal and hating himself any better), so losing, especially in a relationship, prompts her to act in ways that guarantee Mike's loyalty to her because this way, she can avoid the painful feelings involved with a breakup as she gradually pulls away. I would also like to think she's ghosting Mike (if not because she feels guilty of not "liking him that way" anymore) due to being ill equipped with overwhelming situations and to distance herself from feelings (which are associated with immaturity in her family's eyes), already preoccupied with pleasing her mom despite living in bad faith and opposite to the kind of character she was when she and Mike were closer in the past. Either way, while it's not enough to justify how badly her relationship with Mike is going, nor how much worse it could've gotten if Mike and Sandy would get married and have a child that she'd neglect like in the alternate timeline, I feel like Sandy and Mike's situation is fixable provided both were to receive relationship counseling, therapy, and became more honest with themselves. As it stands, their dynamic isn't sustainable at this state and is nearly reaching its climax. I really hope Sandy becomes more involved with the main cast too, if only because there's enough of a rift with Mike's toxic behavior that forces their problems to the surface and encourages growth and development from Mike and Sandy, who desperately need it.

I hope this generates discussion in the event there are some Sandy sympathizers out here on the booru. Note - I'm also open to the idea that she's an actual manipulative narcissist who could potentially psychologically abuse Mike due to the red flags she's raised during their date, but then again -- I genuinely just see a girl with unmet needs who likely even feels strange about being unhappy when she has her life together whilst hinting to not be entirely neurotypical (seeing as how she is prone to being easily forgetful, distracted, aloof, and spacey I'd like to think she's on the spectrum to some extent?) From my experience, people who live in bad faith like Sandy for so long may eventually succumb to a breakdown, similar if not worse than what Mike is currently going through, so I thought I'd bring that up in case I'm not the only one concerned.

tl;dr:
I don't Sandy's happy with or without Mike.
