Just goes to show that being the class clown and being intelligent aren’t mutually exclusive. David has his faults, primarily his lack of social awareness and personal accountability, which when combined with his hyperactivity can make him come off as just an idiot who never really knows what’s going on at any given time. But none of those things are a good indicator of how well David can apply himself when he wants to. And considering the English class he got in Freshman year, it’s little surprise David’s putting enough effort into English to wind up in AP, even if he might not seem like the stereotypical AP student.

I was under the impression that the cast just assumes that David is dumb and the gag is that he’s actually p smart, so I’m actually kind of disappointed if that’s not the case?

Ok, I’m gonna make this prediction call now. By the end of the series I’m more than confident in saying that David is either gonna be the valedictorian, salutatorian, or part of the honor graduates. Is that an easy prediction to make? Yes.

Sue has a well shown habit of judging people based on how they portray themselves and not on what they actual do, so her being certain David is actually dumb and not just a dumbass is pretty on par.

For one, he sucks at making an apology. and second, Sue needs to justlet David be. That being said, David also pokes his nose into things way too much too and has a hard time just being quiet too so I get her point too sometimes.

That being said, David shows intelligence when he actually cares, and think that shows he’s not an over or under achiever, he’s just unmotivated. Just cause he couldn’t care less about one class but does well in another doesn’t mean he’s dumb. it could just mean he just doesn’t care enough. It’s not exactly a good a trait, but it’s an understandable one that almost randomly makes him suddenly focused.
