Line in the Sand — Page 1

Author commentary

Veronica: Hello and welcome to the next chapter! Who’s ready to have fun? Certainly not Mike :)

My goodness the amount of revisions this chapter went through.. originally it was 40 pages, then it was 36. Got to 44 in the end, because I love twisting the knife, err I mean I love pacing. Anyway.

A preview of the upcoming BCB page.

Sandy was the #ihatemybf FINAL boss and now Mike is slowly becoming the same 😩

have we finally hit the breaking point here? even with all the signs that Mike clearly had not forgiven Sandy he was still pretty much hanging onto her every word before now

but at the same time, timing lmao. story’s still in mid-late January and everyone’s expecting Valentine’s day to be the greatest disaster in the history of Roseville, right?

Yeah, I had my money on this being a rough valentines day for Mike, and that was even before Paulo and Daisy got together. Now I’m half expecting Mike’s misery to be contrasted with a date night with the new couple.

god I have to use some TVTropes terminology for this I apologise to sane people in advance

back when Abbaisy was a thing, they were the Beta Couple, the pair in the romance story that relatively have their shit together to contrast the nonsense everyone else is going through, maybe give some advice on how to be better at this stuff to others. of course now we know that the combo of Daisy not being able to hide her feelings for Paulo and Mike mixed with Abbey’s growing unaddressed jealousy and his (fairly justified) hatred of Paulo was rotting the relationship, but before Happy Hour we never really had any reason to believe there was ever any problem there

now instead we have Paisy. which is never going to be anywhere near as short-term stable (I love the two, and think they’re able to stay together in the long term, but they’re absolutely gonna cause huge messes in their wake), but could still potentially serve the role, as they can show how things can be better than what’s going on with Mike. hell this page is showing something those two would never do, Daisy is constantly impressed with Paulo’s actions and Paulo does anything for his partner, neither of them would ever be as checked out of a conversation as Mike is here

it’s another way Mike’s managed to manoeuvre himself into the worst-case scenario for himself lol, not only is he still having issues with the idea that Paulo and Daisy don’t love him that way any more, if he ever tries to hang out with them again instead of following James everywhere the things he’s missing out on will be staring him right in the face

You gotta draw the line somewhere! You gotta draw a fuckin’ line in the sand, dude! You gotta make a statement! You gotta look inside yourself and say, ‘what am I willing to put up with today?’ NOT FUCKIN’ THIS!! - Game Grumps 2012
