Ahh~ I’ve always loved Abbey and Daisy together. They seriously are sweet. I wish Daisy could see just how much in love he is with her, he’s been trying to hide it recently but his concern is an overpowering emotion. Maybe there is some hope for this ship yet.

PLEASE change the art style!! It’s embarrassing to read since it looks like something a kindergarten drew and I know you can do it professional like you used to in here http://www.bittersweetcandybowl.com/c69/p21.html

WHAT HAPPENED?!? Why do you draw like you don’t really want to make anything out of it anymore?
Please re-read all your best old chapters and look at the change… It’s going backwards :/
I used to love love loooove reading this but it ruins the pleasure now because this art style is a joke compared to what I’ve seen before…..!!

You know, I don’t mind the artwork style that much. Yeah I DID like the previous proportions better, like in

but I would NOT get rid of the watercolor. I think the watercolor job is AWESOME and makes the work look great! However, the proportions are a touch too…uh, childish?

Albeit different, I think Taishi should do the artwork as she likes. It’s her comic, it’s her right. She can do what she likes with it and I give her opinion the utmost respect. Nonetheless, I will miss the older style…

i do hope the old style returns eventually though lol because theres no way id be able to take major drama seriously with it. its too cutesy

i have seen many a anime and read several an manga so my judgement is obviously correct folks

Yeah I kinda agree with you there.
I think the proportions make them look a little too like kids, but I do like the watercolors. I wasn’t on board with them at first, but the more I looked at them, the more they started to grow on me.

I hope she changes the proportions back, but it’s her comic, and I won’t blame her if she doesn’t.

Laurel August 12, 2014, 1:20 PM EST.

@Jannnne: Because she is the only person he doesn’t want to judge him or see him as just the crude annoying persona he puts up with others. She is like a little sister to him and normal people don’t want to look like a bad person to their little sister, which is why he shows her his true insecure inner self, which is rather embarrassing to someone like Paulo who pretends he is confident in most situations.

It is embarrassing to say ‘I think I’m just going to end up nowhere as a nobody’ to someone you care about. So of course Paulo would blush in this situation, especially if someone suddenly interrupted because your first thought would be ‘did they hear any of that oh dear God what if they did’.

Moogle August 12, 2014, 1:21 PM EST.

To be honest, the comments hating on the art style or begging for a previous style are getting on my last nerve. I don’t see a thing wrong with this current chosen style, which is here to stay. Maybe I’ve seen too many cartoons or played with this art style myself too many times, but I enjoy it. I do not see the characters as “getting younger” or “looking like kids” or anything like that. They are still Paulo, Daisy, Abbey, etc.

Maybe it’s because even in life, I don’t look at the outside, but care about the inside. I don’t stare at how these characters are drawn. That is merely a representation of how the author wants to present these personalities. I’ve drawn my own characters in many different styles, proportions. I’ve changed their clothing, hairstyles, etc. But each one still represents the character I intended, the set of personality, background story, lifestyle, etc.

TL;DR: I’m here for the story, while enjoying the beautiful art. Nothing wrong with this style; it won’t decrease my enjoyment (even of the impending drama) one bit.

Kiyoshia August 12, 2014, 1:51 PM EST.

Comment ID #285205

Did anyone notice on panel 4; the difference in the ground where Abbey is and where Daisy is? This could be nothing, but I think it’s @Taeshi’s very clever use of symbolism.

Think about it; Abbey was at a happiness highpoint when he was with Daisy. Yeah, they had a bit of a falling out, but by in large, she stood by him and supported him. His life was better when he & Daisy were together thus, proving my point: In the gloomy garden of Abbey’s life, The grass will always be greener when he has a little Daisy to brighten it up.

Say what you will, but Abbey x Daisy Forever!!!

@ Kiyoshia
“I don’t see a thing wrong with this current chosen style, -which is here to stay-.”

I’ll believe that when the comic ends in this style. It’s the one thing I can count on with BCB is the style will change, but also the one major thing that really shouldn’t. It took me forever to get into this comic because of the constant style swapping, it’s really disruptive, I kept wondering if the story was starting over constantly until I was finally able to read the monster of a archive. If it were a few times here or there it’d be fine, because this comic has been going on a really long time! but it feels like every six chapters between old art, redrawn chapters, total rehaul, etc. when there was nothing that needed fixing. Like most people have mentioned it isn’t so much that they hate it for what it is, as it doesn’t fit the tone of the comic and taeshi appears to not be able to put her best skills into it because of how restrictive it is.

I didn’t want to comment about it again since I know as an artist it is totally awful to hear but taeshi was doing wonderful and improving a thousand times. Her colors are much better in the newer style I will say

@Little_sunshine: Everyone gets that you don’t like the new style, but please DON’T call it lazy. With the other styles, it took about 3-4 hours to make a page. With this new one, each individual page takes a full day of work to complete, and the buffer for the comic is only about five pages right now. (If you don’t believe me on this, check out the new BCB tumblr. Suitcase himself said this stuff in one of the posts.)

If you don’t like it, that’s fine, it’s your opinion. But please don’t call the style lazy, because it takes more work to make these pages than it did in any other style before, and I doubt they would go through the trouble of making them if they didn’t really want to keep this style.

IcedFlower August 12, 2014, 7:06 PM EST.

Comment ID #285213

Thanks, IcedFlower!

You know how when you change something for the better, everything old looks kind of terrible to you? That’s how we feel about the quasi-humanoid proportions from before. Geez, it’s uncanny and ugly. The current look is so much truer to the character designs and resolves a long-standing concern that came about in the summer vacation arc and never really went away after that. Clearly, many still like the aesthetic of anthropomorphic characters in human proportions (well.. semi-human, their heads were always big) but unfortunately we don’t, and it’s why the anatomy of the comic was never consistent. We were always restless, fighting for some kind of cartoony floppiness without ever taking the full step forward.

We do kinda hope to bring all you guys kicking and screaming with us. My best memory of that happening in the past was Vero’s effort to divorce herself from anime stock expressions, which many saw as an ugly choice. (Many still do, they’re the ones who prefer the “expressive” stockfacey art style from Volume One.) But it’s just one of those things. I think it’s best for artists to make what pleases them, and I hope you can agree even if you’re not totally on board with the choice to make the characters look cuter.

As a separate issue (that I think gets a bit less attention than the proportions) the current style really does take too much time, and it’s increasingly apparent that there’s no easy way to keep things traditional while doing coloured lineart of varying weight. So we’re thinking about what’s most efficient. Certain things that are artistically important to us will always stick (e.g. the polarising cartoony look) but we need to work out a way to fit other projects in Veronica’s work schedule, as right now keeping up with this site’s update schedule is nearly the only thing she does in her life — and as you have seen from the past, 3 days a week is not where we want to be.

SuitCase August 12, 2014, 7:47 PM EST.

Comment ID #285214

@Suitcase: You’re welcome! :D It just really bugged me that people were calling it lazy, and saying you guys “weren’t serious” about the art, when in fact this is what you guys wanted the art style to be like from the start.

I think even if the fans don’t like your choice, they should still be respectful when they comment about their dislike, so all the rude pokes like “You’re not even trying!” and “Work on your skills!” were starting to wear on me. I, for one, love the new style, and I agree with you that it’s an improvement, as do many other fans, so don’t worry too much about it. Just keep doing your best and It’ll all be fine! :-*

IcedFlower August 12, 2014, 8:28 PM EST.

Comment ID #285215

To everyone who is complaining about the art style, just please shut up. When @Taeshi and @SuitCase started using this style, they got a lot of flak from people who preferred the older styles and that is reasonable, everyone has their favorite style of art, but this is getting out of control.(I am not saying that @SuitCase and @Taeshi getting flak in reasonable, I mean it is reasonable for everyone to have their own opinion) Seriously, how many chapters has it been since they started using the now not so new water color style? It has been four chapters and two intermissions, they are clearly not going to change just because people tell them to.

Personally, I have liked every single one of @Teashi’s art styles, even the ones used from the beginning, I mean the art style used in chapter two, and I think that each one has it’s own unique charm. And as @Kiyoshia stated earlier, it’s about the story, and this is a brilliant story that should, and shall, be remembered.

And I think that people are underestimating the size of the bag, it’s about as big as Paulo’s torso, so it’s not that small.

Yeah im with flower on this. I know I haven’t posted lately, but even I was shaking my head at the anti-art comments. Taishi likes this style and doesn’t like the more humanistic style of before. So attacking won’t help. The only complaint that has held water(and I’m sure Taishi knows) is the character heights being a bit off.

Yes, there are problems with the style of proportions, but Taishi has been informed of them. Even so thats hardly an excuse for “Lazy” or “lower quality” garbage. Seriously, the girl was upset at taking a two weak break and made it up by showing a very embarrassing comic(for her, I though it was excellent) just because she felt bad. Who calls that lazy? Even so, keep up the amazing work, from what I’ve been hearing this is an extremely hard style to do, and Taishi is amazing for even attempting it.
But enough rambling. Point is, Taishi has still outright amazed me with outstanding storytelling and incredible art, even if I don agree with the choices. Don’t let the complainers bother you.

Also, while it’s on my mind. I would absolutely support a serious magical girl comic that doesn’t play on the more ridiculous tropes like the 10 year old heroes and power ranger level villains. And I -adored- the ending to that, it gave a veyr interesting and dare I say, very unique potential.
