Oh man I was through the roof when I got my college letter, but I can totally understand Tess being a bit down - she’s made some brilliant friends, and now she has to leave them. Still, there’s no reason they can’t all meet up in the summer!

Lucy is gone because it adds suspense into an otherwise homogenous, unchanging plot. That’s the reason for the *~*mystery*~* of where she went, as opposed to having a chapter show her whereabouts. All these comments asking where she went? That’s probably the desired reaction from the audience.
