Here’s a YouTube video for all the Mike fans out there.
Ever noticed that Mike refuses to give Lucy a break?
Hes always like, “What? She is sorry? What sorcery is this? ಠ_ಠ” Also, if you’re going to be sarcastic, don’t be right.
Plus, i know Mike is girly but really! Does Sandy have to be the man every single time?!?
Nikita July 11, 2012, 12:00 AM EST.
0_0 he is once again, but Sandy is right
FairyTalegurl July 11, 2012, 12:00 AM EST.
i don't know July 11, 2012, 12:00 AM EST.

i don't know July 11, 2012, 12:01 AM EST.
You can’t feel bad once can you Mike? I had held out hope that this might humble you but nooooooo….. it’s all about you AGAIN.
you still jerk.
RoseVee July 11, 2012, 12:01 AM EST.
Mike needs to calm his tits and just apologize or something.
Nobody July 11, 2012, 12:01 AM EST.
Yes your the bad guy mike. You yelled at poor Lucy for no reason and now your mad again. Seriously, Mike your horrible, feel some compassion for just a moment gosh! I wonder if lucy is going to be friendly to everyone now. I mean she was so nice and easy to Paulo on the phone and now this!! Anyway mike needs to get it together and and grow a heart, or I will choke him with his own scarf.
I love bittersweet candy bowl!!!!
Awesomeness July 11, 2012, 12:02 AM EST.
Mike I’m pretty sure you were always the bad guy in this situation…
HimbeCat379 July 11, 2012, 12:02 AM EST.
Is he turning on his girlfriend now? Really?
Kaliofdarknesss July 11, 2012, 12:02 AM EST.
Crying out loud…
LuciaSkyRaine July 11, 2012, 12:02 AM EST.
Hehe Sandy is making it way easier than it will be! But her attitude is lovely, maybe they can enjoy their date now if Mike doesn’t turn angst mode on once again.
Cavara July 11, 2012, 12:02 AM EST.
Mike HAS fans???
Kai the koi July 11, 2012, 12:02 AM EST.
Yesh Mike you are
Why you askin? July 11, 2012, 12:02 AM EST.
Once again? What did I miss?
It’s nice to see the two of them are taking this in stride. The girl isn’t being an anoying b****, and Sandy is level-headed.
I feel so old for saying that.
Curtisimo - dungeon bypass switch
Curtisimo July 11, 2012, 12:03 AM EST.
Is it just me of does Sandy’s hair keep changing length?
And also… can’t wait for the next page!!
Lunacy July 11, 2012, 12:03 AM EST.
God, Mike. You’re acting like a five year old. And it’s gonna end up making you screw up you’re relationship with Sandy. Grow the hell up.
Stevum July 11, 2012, 12:03 AM EST.
Sandy is gonna run if you show her how Bipolar you are irl Mike.
Termania July 11, 2012, 12:04 AM EST.
Now at least Mike and Lucy can clear the air (and hopefully prevent Lucy from committing suicide or something equally as stupid) and maybe Mike will get his head out of his *** and be able to create a stable, friendly relationship with Lucy; one in which he doesnt have to feel like hes cheating on Sandy just by being with her, and one in which Lucy can drop the tough exterior and be honest with Mike about who she is inside. And then Mike and Sandy can go back to face pinching ^.^ (and hopefully maybe even a bit more ;D )
Frodomann1 July 11, 2012, 12:04 AM EST.
@Kai the Koi
CURSE YOU!! Beat me to it!!
(Lawl, not really. :3)
Lola July 11, 2012, 12:04 AM EST.
I think we all get the point here.
High schools sucks.
that’s the message right?
MagicMan July 11, 2012, 12:04 AM EST.
I really hope this whole thing doesn’t sever the relationship between Sandy and Mike! I feel as though possibly due to past events, he has a habit of being suspicious of his friends’ underlying feelings. While being concerned is one thing, I feel like he’s taking it way too far. This is less of an attitude issue and more of a mental one. He legitimately feels like everyone is out to get him (at least that is what I am interpreting).
I really want Mike and Sandy to work out, but it’s going to fail if he questions every single thing she does.
EDIT: By the way, Taeshi, your watercoloring is freaking GORGEOUS. I am in love with this style.
Anbellz July 11, 2012, 12:04 AM EST.
God Mike would you just give it a rest already? You have a chance to make up with Lucy and make Sandy happy, just man up and talk it out with her!
BlackBombay July 11, 2012, 12:05 AM EST.
@Lunacy I said that a few pages ago…
Stevum July 11, 2012, 12:05 AM EST.
Its not much, but at least Mike (sort of) gets the point and at the very least, he should go through with this for his girlfriend’s sake.
Speaking of which, its nice to see Sandy being the mature one here and as strange as it may sound, she’s starting to become one of my favorite characters.
Weird, I know but her personality is rubbing off on me.
Nimbus26 July 11, 2012, 12:06 AM EST.
Somebody hit him. Hard. Preferably in the face.
Chompy July 11, 2012, 12:06 AM EST.
Such a douche. A selfish, egotistical douche.
yayleo July 11, 2012, 12:06 AM EST.
Uhhhhhh is it me or does mikes arm seem a little short in the first panel?
Kai the koi July 11, 2012, 12:07 AM EST.
I’m just gonna say what we’ve all been thinking: that coat is very unflattering on Sandy.
Shiloh July 11, 2012, 12:07 AM EST.
$5 says Sandy will go with Mike to find Lucy and after checking every place possible they won’t find her and something terrible happened, or she’d be at the last place anyone would think.
(Don’t take that bet, I am NOT wiring $5 over this )
Anon-Anon July 11, 2012, 12:07 AM EST.
OMG I WANT TO BE A MIKE HATER TOO
mike you DOUCHEHBAG i want to go back in time and ask ur mommy to abort you. Go be ga y with carson u lil babby.
No but seriously, I can understand Mike’s feelings. He wants to be mad and he’s not being allowed to. He’s a kid, kids are like that.
..I just turned 18, so I can say that now. :3
zergling July 11, 2012, 12:08 AM EST.
Oh Mike, you got it all wrong………YOU WERE ALWAYS THE BAD GUY
Enigma July 11, 2012, 12:09 AM EST.
Good god -_- Michael, you just need to grow up.
Your relationship with Sandy isn’t going to last if you keep playing the victim card.
Amaris July 11, 2012, 12:10 AM EST.
Oh for the love of… Mike you are an A class jerk. Look I don’t like Sandy at all, but she is right. Don’t act like a two year old the didn’t get the right two in your happy meal.
yuyupiece July 11, 2012, 12:11 AM EST.
Darnit Mike, you were so CLOSE! Just swallow your pride already!
TLV July 11, 2012, 12:11 AM EST.
Point: looks like we can now see that sandy wasn’t manipulating a split between mike and lucy.
Counter-point: well, i’ll have to wait on that one, as that look might be the rationalization of mike realizing he pushed it too far or that look could be that he feels he needs to defend his actions. (although i still think mike isn’t a total D-bag, he just exploded, happens to the best of us)
strider July 11, 2012, 12:11 AM EST.
LOL… Again? Pfffttt…
LOL July 11, 2012, 12:11 AM EST.
Mike you doushbag how could you, you the badguy duh what else to show that a tail and horns? IDIOT. Still lucy needs to be dependent on her self not on mike so its a neutral way he wants her to be independent and she wants to at least try to be less dependent.
mikedawn July 11, 2012, 12:11 AM EST.
Oh my gosh. YES MIKE. YES. YOU ARE THE BAD GUY.
She apologizes, with all her heart, and not only do you not accept it, but it doesn’t PHASE you. Even Sandy thinks you should take it easy! You can blame her all you want for this, Mike. You can blame Lucy for ruining your life and for causing what I’m pretty sure is about to happen (you screwing up your one real date with Sandy in like 7 years). But really you’re diggin’ your own grave.
You’re digging it, and I just can’t wait to see it finish So you can get buried in your own despair. You’re sympathetic for like 10 updates and now this. *sigh*
Oh Mike, what ever shall we do with you.
Name not found July 11, 2012, 12:12 AM EST.
Go burn in Hell Mike! I have no more respect for you!
Impel Dragon July 11, 2012, 12:12 AM EST.
No Mike, that’s not what she said.
He looks like a sulky spoiled kid that got scolded for not sharing. “But they tried to steal my toy! Why should I share?! No, they didn’t want to play with it, they wanted to steal it and never give it back or break it!!!”
Oh Mike. Lucy has matured, now it’s your turn. You should at least leave her alone and stop screaming witch every-where you go.
On another note, he never really did just try the simple method of calmly and rationally talking it out with Lucy….. now that she’s realized how much she accidentally hurt him, and she’s trying to be better, and she’s come to new realizations, and proved her maturity, I’m pretty sure she’d be willing to just discuss it…. applogize, find closure, come to an understanding, whatever—- whether the end result is accepting and going separate ways, or accepting and starting over as new, mature friends…..
and if Mike could keep from shrieking and blowing up and jumping to insane and irrational conclusions…..
I know you’re capable of it Mike, be a decent human- er….. whatever you are, being…..
and yes, I don’t really want to see them end up together….. I’d like to see Lucy move on an just seeing him as another person, maybe a casual friend… with clean closure between both of them.
headdesk July 11, 2012, 12:13 AM EST.
Asdfghj I knew this would happen. Curse you, Michael, CURSE YOU.
Scellane Rain July 11, 2012, 12:13 AM EST.
Yes kiddo you are the bad guy yet again. Why? Because you verbal put Lucy down, You made her upset. Yes she should have not been that violent. But she did do a lot of good things in the past with you. Hell she stuck her neck out to save you. And He should have known what she is like. He does know her best, and should hAve known its hard for her to admit her feelings and so on. But what she did here took a lot of guts. And Sandy is right, they should talk it out more. But its up to Mike for him to actaly do it.
Chibi July 11, 2012, 12:13 AM EST.
so much mike hate omg
): I still like mike
yoooooooooooo July 11, 2012, 12:13 AM EST.
I am loving Sandy more and more and more! She knows just who Lucy is, has heard ALL the negativity about her from Mike himself - and she’s completely willing to give Lucy a chance!
Oh Michael, DO learn something from this. I facepalmed at his last remark here, but maybe - JUST MAYBE - he’s starting to come around…
Ryuko July 11, 2012, 12:14 AM EST.
He’s just being a bit tsundere about it - I think Lucy has rubbed off on him…
Also why do people assume it doesn’t phase him? He could be a few pages away from crying about it for all we know…
Crayon July 11, 2012, 12:14 AM EST.
Don’t go there Mike…
Jax July 11, 2012, 12:16 AM EST.
yes mike you are the bad guy, now act like a grown up and apologise for **** sakes! <
Don’t make me go Kratos on your ***! I don’t to be ripping heads off after I just ate
Holly July 11, 2012, 12:17 AM EST.
I, personally, think that an interesting future for this problem is that Mike DOES apologize for what he said. However, Lucy will accept it, but still keep distance, because she truly does want to become her own person. I would like to see her be able to walk past him and not feel like a monster. She has grown from this, and I would like her to keep doing so, while keeping Mike away. I do think it would be for the best, for now.
But, we’ll see what Taeshi has in store. It will inevitably make me obsessively watch my computer late at night. Lovely art as always, Taeshi! I particularly think the shading of the background in the first panel is particularly lovely. Monochromatic can be hard to nail, but you did it wonderfully. Looking forward to next time!
Something Witty July 11, 2012, 12:17 AM EST.
Finally somebody is being rational for once
Kyute July 11, 2012, 12:18 AM EST.
MIKE YOURE AN IDIOT
ChexMix July 11, 2012, 12:19 AM EST.
Crayon I think your right he is geting to be a mini lucy. Curse u lucy!
mikedawn July 11, 2012, 12:20 AM EST.
wow.. so mike really REALLY hate her…… ok i do not approve his attitude but, he is free of hating who he wants… i still like him.
Chileanguy July 11, 2012, 12:20 AM EST.
^_^ I really love how sweet Sandy is. I used to have my doubts about her, especially when she didn’t bother to invite Daisy to her show, but now I see she really is a kind, thoughtful person.
:( I was kind of disappointed at Mike’s reaction…apparently even Sandy can’t get through to him. I’ll feel just awful if he’s a total crabbyass for the rest of his visit just because of this. Sandy doesn’t deserve to get hurt by any of this ****…
But I will leave the Mike bashing to his many haters~ *tosses Mike to the most rabid fans and sits back to comfortably watch the slaughter*
OverlordRoo July 11, 2012, 12:20 AM EST.
It’s really sad that even Sandy understands Lucy better than Mike and she’s barely met her. Mike is on this high, a high of righteousness, that not even Sandy can penetrate. I think he just wants to be mad at Lucy. The whole time he was yelling at her, and even now whilst looking at the phone you can tell he feels guilty. But he also feels justified, and isn’t done being mad at her yet. I really hope this doesn’t ruin his night with Sandy. I may be a LucyXMike fan, but right now Sandy is the most nourishing thing Mike needs and I want him to be happy for a while and figure things out.
Pinkie Pie July 11, 2012, 12:21 AM EST.
And this is the part where he snaps at Sandy about Lucy being evil, blah blah blah, causing Sandy to end up in tears, he apologizes blah blah blah, she doesn’t accept and says that Mike isn’t the same man she used to know, he ends up “hurt” blah blah blah, Sandy breaks up with him while he pleads to give him a second chance… blah blah blah
DB14 July 11, 2012, 12:21 AM EST.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Mike finally understands
Hurray !!! ( mike u r still ok in my book ) lucy is gonna get a good surprise
Hurry and get to the GOOD ACTION w/ lucy and mike , and maybe ummmmm, crap ! I forgot her name , sara No , Umm
Oh whatever keep up with the great comics
Brandon July 11, 2012, 12:22 AM EST.
It seems right now that the only way to convince Mike to calm the hell down is with an intervention combined with a few punches to his face. I’m just saying :I
Eddy July 11, 2012, 12:23 AM EST.
Yes Mike, yes you are. Your own damn fault too.
I never really cared for Sandy much… until now, I absolutely love her. She is calm, considerate, and understanding. I see now why Mike loves her so much. Keep it up Sandy!
Order_66 July 11, 2012, 12:23 AM EST.
Woah! You just realized it? Oh wow Mike, be sensitive for someone’s feelings. It’s not that you should be the only one who’s right. I know… You are right about letting out your true feelings to Lucy, but that doesn’t mean that you should be acting like a mad ******. Sandy’s right. You should talk it out with her, or else you’ll be facing hell in my furious eyes.
Aubi July 11, 2012, 12:23 AM EST.
OMG, Mike….. I knew it. I totally knew it …….. …… A change of subject or just keeping that comment to yourself would’ve been more prudent. Really. Now the rest of their time may or not depend on Sandy’s reaction…. good luck, Mike……
Sandy, you’re a sweetie, you really are. I wonder if that look on her face in pannel 6 means she’s thinking “Oh crap, what have I done”, or “ooookie, awkward…”, I hope she’s not over thinking this, its not really her fault here. See, Mike, you have totally blown this whole thing out of proportion, but then again he was already stressed from his relationship with Lucy, so it had to happen one way or another. So now I’m wondering he REALLY did, ……. oh well, its done, its over, moving on. ON TOWARDS FRIDAY!
Subaru July 11, 2012, 12:23 AM EST.
Mike is a total ******* yet Sandy is calm, Mike sould learn a thing or to from her. Perferably on how to stop being an ***.
(Sorry for my language)
youwishyouknewmyname July 11, 2012, 12:25 AM EST.
Oh my god.
Mike. Mike why.
I actually don’t understand how he can be skewing this so much? No one said anything about him being the bad guy. No one even implied it, yet /this/ is all he gets from Lucy’s apology?
He’s been upset for months now. I get that. But after a certain point, it just becomes… excessive? I mean, he reached that point a while ago, I think, but this is really continuing to make that move obvious.
My biggest fear is that Mike will effectively ruin his date with Sandy because of this. She’s being perfectly reasonable about it. He could have just faked agreement with her or dropped the subject entirely. Instead, he continues to beat the dead horse. If he and Sandy break up, there is no doubt in my mind that he will blame /everything/ on Lucy. And he will probably go even more out of his way to completely destroy her either emotionally or physically (I’m leaning towards the former, though).
I’m sure Lucy didn’t foresee any of this happening. She probably just thought she was finally cutting ties with Mike, hopefully on a lighter note.
I can’t believe Mike has regressed so much.
I hope he comes around eventually.
I also hope that by that time there will be no one left.
causticAntilogy July 11, 2012, 12:25 AM EST.
lol, the video…. Do my eyes decieve me, or did I just see a scene from “Ruby” ? Taeshi, did you watch it or did you just randomly find it? Sorry its out of topic guys……
Subaru July 11, 2012, 12:32 AM EST.
and break it or never give it back!!!” * derp. curse you ten minute rule.
I see the need for you, but curse you.
on another note, I’m really happy with Sandy.
I even wonder if she might remember childhood Lucy…..
Either way, she certainly gets it.
She realizes that they’ve both done right and wrong and that neither is a witch, and that Lucy has come to realizations and fixed her side, and now Mike needs to come to realizations and fix his.
TAKE LESSONS PEOPLE.
Lucy did not purposefully, knowingly, hurt Mike.
and I think, at least I hope, that Mike did not realize what he was doing and how much it hurt her when they were little…..
I find it hard to believe that older Mike didn’t know what he was doing when he tore her to pieces and then skipped off happily….. because usually when you’re in a blind rage, it doesn’t just suddenly stop….
I still don’t think that means that he could never be a decent person if he put his mind to it…..
People do extreme and idiotic things…… but they can change if they want to.
It’s time for him to have his realization and own up to it too.
Hopefully he’ll stop this drama, he and Sandy will have a lovely date, he and Lucy can discuss things and find closure, and move on with their ( preferably decently separate ) lives.
I’d love to see Lucy realize that she doesn’t need him, become more acquainted with the friends she didn’t realize she has, and be able to walk past Mike without a second thought. ( with peace on both sides, not bitter feelings. )
headdesk July 11, 2012, 12:32 AM EST.
personally i don’t see anyone as the bad guy anymore what i see when i think back on this is two people in deadlocked argument and both being to stupid to stop, think and get over it. lucy eventually did and wants all this drama to end but mike can’t get it through his thick skull and realize this so he can stop the drama their argument has caused. i just hope he can realize this soon because the longer he holds onto this the more drama it would cause. neither of them are perfect, both of them have their flaws lucy realized hers and is trying to fix them while mike thinks he realized his and fixed them but in truth he still has it. now that i have typed this i have realized something mike has become so focused on being with sandy and making lucy the villain so he can be rid of her that he only set himself up for failure and being seen as the villain in the eyes of others.
(i also want it to be known that i do not see either mike or lucy as a the jerkass villain or the saint of perfection and i apologize if i make it seem that way but both of them have their goods and bads and neither can claim to be better than the other.)
in hindsight this is longer than i meant it to be but my are plans always amount to “make it up as i go along”. i also expect either hate or praise mostly hate for my rant and i frankly don’t care.
@headdesk you beat me by 3 minutes you win.
i don't know July 11, 2012, 12:35 AM EST.
@I don’t know
‘s’okay, you beat me with the edit. :3
I think you put it well though. ^___^
When I look back at the posts, it seems to me like Lucy has been trying to bring this drama train to a halt for awhile…..
She’s trying to figure out the best way possible, and Mike isn’t helping….
Her friends also seemed to get in the way a bit, attempting to force them together. ( since Mike kept viewing the friends’ invasions as Lucy’s, when in reality, she had no control or desire for it. ) >.<;
headdesk July 11, 2012, 12:37 AM EST.
Oh my god Mike. Seriously? Yes yes you are once again the bad guy. Which is what you get for being an *** to Lucy and trying to “sever” ties even though Lucy was trying to leave you alone/ make up for how she treated you in the past. Grow some balls and accept that you went about this the wrong way.
Also kudos Sandy. I can’t really think of a better or more rational way to handle all of this. You deserve someone 100 times better than that jerkface you’re dating now. Who knows maybe you’ll see that soon enough when he starts going through his angst fest
Tia July 11, 2012, 12:38 AM EST.
@headdesk then we’re tied anyway i better get to bed my clock says 12:40 am so goodbye BCB until tomorrow!!!!
i don't know July 11, 2012, 12:38 AM EST.
Unfortunately yes mike you are the bad guy in this you blew up in lucy’s face and took it a step further you crushed her emotionally(not cool) and when she tries to say sorry you assume she is going to ruin your life . It would have been fine to act like a victim years ago when she started hurting you mike but holding it in for that long and releasing it on someone who was already emotionally unstable not the best way of handling the situation. For mike to start acting like a victim now he’ll need more than she’s trying to ruin my life. not going to working anymore not since lucy actually tried to make thing right. Mike listen to sandy and go talk to the friend you’ve had since this amazing comic began. Figure out a way to get past the security system that is sam and jordan, then go apologize. Wait, i just realized i wrote an incredibly long comment that involved talking to fictional characters… either i’m going crazy or this really is the best, most addictive comic ever . Hmm, I vote for the second one.
supertails19 July 11, 2012, 12:39 AM EST.
Just as I thought. He’s not being rational. In truth he seems to be just as selfish as he thinks Lucy is being.
Cyph July 11, 2012, 12:39 AM EST.
I’m still loving this entire series of comics Taeshi!
Charvale July 11, 2012, 12:43 AM EST.
@headdesk praise in all my life that is something i expect to get the least. heck I’m surprised when anyone notices my work i guess that’s why it always makes me so happy. thank you and goodnight .
i don't know July 11, 2012, 12:44 AM EST.
Uh-oh, don’t start that with Sandy. Really, Mike hasn’t seen her in who knows how long, and the first thing he does is talk back instead of letting this thing go?
Paw July 11, 2012, 12:45 AM EST.
Ok, I officially like Sandy. She’s got a level head on her shoulders. As for Mike, you’ve got a lot to make up for. Your attack was understandable, and you did have several valid points, but you went WAAAAAY too far when you brought the others into the equation. You also have to remember that you were the biggest influence in Lucy’s childhood development. Her tsundere attitude and clingyness to you was due to the fact that you were her only friend and abandoned her for a year followed by her being nothing more to you than a replacement for Sandy for god knows how long. Add to that the fact that she tried to save your sorry *** twice with no regard for her own safety, one of which has left a psychological scar on her to the point that she can’t be in water without fainting, and the other nearly left her with physical scars. Also, there were MANY occasions where where you’ve said things that you KNEW would get you hit. And to top it off, you actually got a COMPLIMENT from Lucy (Which is like getting a standing ovation from Simon Cowell)
So yeah, maybe she abused you, but you’ve done just as much to earn her hatred as she did yours. The difference? She matured and still wants to see you happy, even if it’s without her.
Qsandas July 11, 2012, 12:46 AM EST.
As “crazy” as it seems: yes. Mike has fans guys.
Anyway, even as a Mike fan, I know he’s taking this the wrong way, but shouldn’t we cut him a little slack? He’s just a teenager for God’s sake—we all act like a douche as teens at one point! Even those who we believe to be the kindest, most generous, and forgiving of teens!
Boo July 11, 2012, 12:47 AM EST.
ehh…. this too….
As “I don’t Know” said, neither is better than the other.
People can whine and point fingers at Lucy and say that she’s an abusive b****—— but they’re being just as bad as the people who say that Mike should die for not marrying Lucy.
They’re being just as irrational and doing the exact same thing. I honestly can’t wait for this portion to be over, soul-ly because I’m tired of seeing so much non-sense in the comments. >x<
@I don’t know
awww, credit where it’s due, you deserved it. ^_______^
Have a lovely night. :3
“So yeah, maybe she abused you, but you’ve done just as much to earn her hatred as she did yours. The difference? She matured and still wants to see you happy, even if it’s without her.”
I love you. ( or you know, I think you’re brilliant. )
If Lucy abused Mike, Mike also abused Lucy. but….. well the quote says it. ^____^; I’m happy now.
headdesk July 11, 2012, 12:48 AM EST.
Where in Sandy’s Sentence did she ever call Mike a “bad guy?” . Oddly enough his reaction/behavior to what she’s saying is hauntingly familiar to me irl. My step-dad will yell at me and say horrible things about my character; not necessarily to be mean but because he thinks being a dissaproving hard-*** will make me a better person somehow (so far all its really done is given me an unhealthy penchant for seeking approval from authority figures and having low self-esteem) . My mom confronts him about it later and he gets really defensive and feels like he’s being ganged-up on and being portrayed as the bad guy for saying to me what he “thinks needs to be said” even if it’s negative. I’m seeing the same reaction of being the victim for bearing the burden of “telling the truth” from Mike in this comic. He thinks what he did was absolutely right even though others might not think so.
Hiccupby July 11, 2012, 12:48 AM EST.
I took some time out the other day to reminisce on my high school days. Afterwards I felt like I could cut Mike some slack, after all he’s still just a silly sophomore in high school, and kids can be like that sometimes.
I’m hoping Mike has a moment where he just grows out of this phase, whether or not he and Lucy reconcile doesn’t even matter at this point. This is supposed to be bittersweet after all.
Sandz890 July 11, 2012, 12:50 AM EST.
Just couldn’t let the grudge go
Michael is a twit.
The point is penitence yet still your defense is all you see in this. She said sorry with meaning, but you’re still acting hostile. What? Is it so hard to believe you’e important to her true and sure?
This episode is so appropriate. Bittersweet indeed.

No your not Mike. Sandy is an idiot. And Lucy is manipulative. Obviously your not long for love.

Oh, okay. Now you’re making the “nasty face” to your girlfriend too? You said Sandy made you realize “the truth” about Lucy… and now that she tells you this, you’re like: Meeh, pfft. What’s up with you, are you man-PMSing!? By the end of this comic, you’ll probably have turned into concentrated STUPID.

Katiecoo July 11, 2012, 1:05 AM EST.
Sandy is reasonable.
Mike is conflicted.
Potential mending between Mike and Lucy to “friendship” status.
What I would like to see: Mike and Lucy putting on boxing gloves with all of their anger at the front. Let them duke it out without anything held back to old school fighting arcade music, until one of their health bars hits zero.
No matter who wins, at least the air is cleared, and all the tension spinning around their heads is hopefully gone.
If they become competitive rivals or friends afterwards that’s a plus.
Yugo The Wolf July 11, 2012, 1:06 AM EST.
Wow… really people? Give him a break. Are you being serious with all of this hate? He’s going though a lot, and so in response to his frustration you want to kill him? Is he not being that perfect, romantic hero you all think you deserve from a slice of life comic? These are real problems that real people have sometimes.
He went a long time being friends with someone who rarely showed affection in return. She didn’t drive him away on purpose, she just didn’t realize what she was doing. Now the guy is just trying to live happily with his friends and (sort of) new girlfriend. Mike’s doing his best to make his life somewhat more peaceful by distancing himself from the root of the issues, and readers are calling him out on the ‘selfish’ move like Lucy has been some altruistic angel who didn’t deserve to be called out herself.
Yes, of course she is suffering, and of course she is sorry, but this woke her up from what she’s been doing. She hadn’t fully understood before now the effect she’s been having on Mike, and after this, hopefully she won’t forget again. She cares about Mike, yes, but she didn’t do a great job of showing it. She always put energy into keeping her guard up. I doubt they ever talked about anything really meaningful or personal together. After a number of years with someone who mostly sticks around to tease and compete with you, you’d be worn out too. That emotional connection they were mostly lacking is important to any kind of relationship, even just among friends.
From that same line of thinking, I wonder if Mike has ever even tried to really explain to Lucy how she made him feel? I may have to reread this comic from the beginning, but it feels like neither Lucy *nor Mike* really talked much about why they act or think how they do with each other. Like, Mike just shrugs off everything Lucy does and it’s all just built up until recently - when he *could* have tried to say something much earlier than now instead of trying to break off the relationship so suddenly because he sees a way out.
Like Sandy said: they just need to talk it out. Find that understanding they’ve never really had, that insight that they can used to better choose their actions in the future.
Look, basically, it’s just difficult to come up with the best solutions when you’re the one in the situation. There are emotions and biases that get in the way. Pent up anger, unspoken words, hidden feelings. Of course there will be readers who, standing on the outside and already seeing multiple sides of the struggle, will think they know what’s best. But to stand there, enraged, practically spamming comments about how wrong so-and-so is and how they should listen to you because you’ve never had a serious conflict with a friend? Saying someone should be killed or suffer because of your own selfish and harsh judgements about other people’s lives?

Awww, Sandy! So infinitely sweet!
And Mike coming to the realization that he’s kinda acting like a jerk right now. Not that I thought he was acting like one before (cuz I really didn’t ). He just needs to stop acting so paranoid and accept Lucy’s apology. Things will work out just fine.
Eve July 11, 2012, 1:14 AM EST.
My love for Sandy grows, but, Mike is being impossibly stubborn and short-sighted. His amazingly understanding and supportive girlfriend is trying to help him make amends with someone, who granted, maybe he doesn’t want to be friends with, but wants them to atleast apologize to each other and exist neutrally together. A little bit disappointed to call myself a “Mike fan” after this page.
Jayfeather21 July 11, 2012, 1:15 AM EST.
@Kylie I commend you for looking at it with an unbiased sort of viewpoint. I think though that you shouldn’t be too irritated with the highly reactionary comments against Mike with out first looking at it this way: The context and simplistic emotion behind the comments that allows me to label them as “reactionary” is a healthy indication of how absorbed bcb readers are into the emotion, conflict, characters, and drama created by Taeshi’s clever blend of art and story-telling. As a frequent reader of web comics I’ve rarely encountered one where the readers are so absorbed by the story that they behave as if chewing out the characters or rooting them on (directly talking to them in the comments). The comments may or may not be the most thoughtful things in the world- but they show interest; which is lovely to see when you are an artist sharing your work
P.S. I enjoy visiting the comments as much as reading the next riveting page of bcb because someone always says something (or many things) that are ever-so interesting!

TraceLegacySSOF July 11, 2012, 1:19 AM EST.
Really….REALLY? Mike…c’mon. I’ve given you the benefit of the doubt here. Thinking that Sandy showing the text message from Lucy would knock some sense into you. And Sandy! She’s sweet! She’s even telling you she didn’t want you two to fight! And you’re…you’re…THE BAD GUY! You are the bad guy. You are a teenage boy and are therefor the bad guy. Asdfvkljdfdsfdfs.
Though in the end this is still just a comic and they’re still just characters…it’s a darn good story!
Opalarium July 11, 2012, 1:20 AM EST.
Yes, I agree, it’s nice to see that Sandy wasn’t what I expected.
Unfortunately, Mike’s still overreacting to things. If he had been a bit nicer and hadn’t chosen the worst way to reject Lucy, I’d assume things would be different; good in that Lucy and Mike would better salvage their friendship, but bad that Paulo probably wouldn’t have gone and slightly divulged into his feelings for Lucy (giving her the cake and the subsequent events).
Unfortunately though, Mike keeps jumping to hasty conclusions and the worst possible takes on the situations he’s given. Luckily, Sandy’s a good guy here rather than the driving spike between Lucy and Mike I had originally thought she was. It’s always good when someone thinks level-headily, so we can only hope that Mike listens to the voice of reason, in this case, Sandy.
Completely opposite of the analysis I just made, I have a sudden urge to make panel 8 into a “Mike disapproves of your idea” avatar.
Neospector July 11, 2012, 1:20 AM EST.
After reading this page, I’m actually starting to like Sandy now. She’s starting to become a pretty decent character and a sweetheart of sorts. I’m just hoping Mike doesn’t screw up and get mad again, although judging by his expression… that’s the most likely thing to happen.
Anyways, great job so far Taeshi! Keep up the good work! ^^
Guest D July 11, 2012, 1:21 AM EST.
I thought so. It was merely a misunderstanding on Mike’s part. He’s not really a bad guy like everyone says. Just a misunderstanding in communication.
ScrabMaster July 11, 2012, 1:21 AM EST.
I was going to comment on how Mike is effectively screwing things up by not letting the subject drop at that and have fun with Sandy. But it seems that leaving the laptop for two minutes after the comic updates means wading through ONE BILLION OTHER COMMENTS! Ah well, you all get what I mean. He could have been happy just to leave it there. Hell he doesn’t even have to talk to Lucy just tell Sandy everything’s ok now so let’s snuggle. Stupid stupid Mike, this ignorance/rage really does not suit you.
Sammy July 11, 2012, 1:22 AM EST.
Alright, time to get down to some serious 4-AMing.
First, let’s keep in mind that all the main characters are in the 16-18 year old age range. ( I think)
Mike is, indeed, being the bad guy here. He shouted at Lucy, called her all sorts of things, rejected her and his friends, and basically threw all hopes of MxL shippers (me among them) into the mighty fires of Mt. Doom. He ruined her self asteem, and made her guilt-vomit.
He is obviously an evil incarnation of Satan, and must die. So say the Lucy supporters.
Lucy was abusive to mike throughout their relationship of knowing each other, we simply took the abuse as slapstick. She hurt is pride and shins, and he put up with it for years, until, upon the suggestion of Sandy, he not stand for it any more. When he tryed to object to his abuse, he vented years worth of anger onto Lucy, rightfully so.
Lucy should obviously jump off of a tall object. So say the Mike supporters.
What do I think? No one is at fault here. Lucy DID, indeed, formulate hilarious and biting remarks to use against mike, ranging from the lows of ‘jerkass’ to the intulectual hights of ‘jerkwad.’ Mike put up with it, because they were friends, and it was funny. I find abuse funny, if it’s lighthearted.
Then Mike met Sandy, who is quite literally a model person. She has an outstanding personality, is funny and sarcastic, and is drop-dead gorgeous (apparently. I can’t judge, as I’m not into Anthro-hijinks). Mike absolutely worshiped Sandy, and, when she said “oh, well that seems a little rude” about Lucy being a little rough, Mike, being a boyfriend and head-over-heels for Sandy, instantly turned that up to 11 (or, Natch, up to JUSTICE!) and thought “I have to drop this girl or Sandy might not like me as much!”
-[insert chapter December]-
So, to summarize:
Lucy was being funny by mocking Mike. Mike didn’t see it as such, but deep down, he sort of did.
Mike was thinking with his second brain, and was trying to make Sandy as happy as possible.
Curtisimo - armoire of invincibility
Curtisimo July 11, 2012, 1:22 AM EST.
@ChrisGo: that was hilarious and it fit perfectly. Also i think what mike needs is some sense knocked into him(preferably a slap to the face). Anything to wake him up would be nice. Maybe if he opened his eyes he could see lucy was trying to be sincere even if it was in the form of a text(kind of hard to read emotion if there are only words in front of you).

Disnee July 11, 2012, 1:24 AM EST.
I’m definitely loving sandy. I don’t think I would dislike Mike so much except he’s such a passive and bipolar guy.
Sandy definitely is his better half. Now if only he would just give sandy some loving and stop being so angsty maybe he’ll get to the end of this chapter without being a dick fish to anyone, for once.
taNi July 11, 2012, 1:27 AM EST.
I think Mike would have reacted better if instead of telling him to “Go talk it out with her” she had said “I think the two of you should get together and try to talk things out.”
Now he feels like Lucy’s text made him out to be a bad guy and his own girlfriend is taking her side since Sandy is telling him to go fix it. Which implies he’s the one who did the “breaking”.
Or that’s how I see it. Now I’m not a Mike fan, just to clarify. I’m just trying to see this both ways.

Skygaze July 11, 2012, 1:30 AM EST.
“He’s going though a lot”
Yah, I can really relate to all his pain. Like you know, when he gone gunnery sgt. Hartman on Lucy, and show so much conflict back then. And by that I mean crying like a bitch during whole thing, then immedietly switching to “I have to tell all about it to my mommy, doooi”. Seriously, never seen someone in such desperate situation before. Hell, I can’t believe people are sympathising with Lucy, when she is clearly feeling great, and do not feel bad for Mike who’s situation is far more miserable [/sarcasm]
“He went a long time being friends with someone who rarely showed affection in return.”
Like that few times she saved his life, and didn’t sucked his dick afterwards. Really, was that girl raised by wolfs or something?
“Now the guy is just trying to live happily with his friends”
While mostly ignoring them, and everyone around, which was noticed by his younger sister.
“Yes, of course she is suffering, and of course she is sorry, but this woke her up from what she’s been doing”
I do believe what woke her up was her little convo with wannabe rapist cat. Mike only made sure she won’t make any contact with him whatsoever.
Once again: Mike had multiple chances to explain stuff to Lucy like a normal guy would. “Hey, cut it out”, “hey, could you please stop with this ****”. He never did it. And then suddenly his enlightened by Sandy, and goes ballistic. For **** sake, he accepted whole abuse thing for years. And really we don’t know the extent of said abuse due to retcon, but seeing as Mike is acting now, I wouldn’t be suprised, if that bloody nose and busted knee were two and only two situations. Since Mike was rewritten and is now a whiny bitch, clinging to his mommy, ignoring most of his friends, and acting like the whole goddamn world is centered around him. Sorry, can’t symphatise with him, because I can’t see any suffering here. All I see is a spoiled brat, that needs a solid kick in the ***, and even more solid telling off. Don’t know which character will do the honours, but I damn sure wish someone did it already, since I can’t stand him.
@Yugo The Wolf
Erm… this would end up with Mike calling his mother for help. Or complaining afterwards that he was abused yet again. This sort of stuff is for men, and tough women, not for someone who was mentally castrated.

ottur July 11, 2012, 1:32 AM EST.
@headdesk and @i don’t know
I suppose there is truth in what you say.
I admit to being biased in support of Lucy though because I don’t think she has the same coping mechanism Mike does (in fact mike was her coping mechanism). If the situation were reversed I don’t think Mike would be as emotionally damaged as Lucy is now. Mike does seem broken which is why he is bipolar now but I don’t think it’s as bad as Lucy’s situation as she seems to be simply shutting down.
Also up until now I was disliking Sandy. But I think this page shows she really didn’t mean any harm and maybe she can see that she unintentionally caused some.

@Taeshi Omg! That video was awesome So freaking funny. You should make more videos like this, not saying about Mike, but about any character or any situation. Just wondering though, who did the voices? Well if you can’t tell I understand, but just curious that’s all.
Also: Wow mike, you finally get it. How about this? Stop being so emotional, and try to think calmly about what other people said. Because as far as I know you’ve been purposely bottling all that rage up just so you can have an excuse to yell at her. I mean seriously now, you have a right to be angry, but making it go out like that, like how you told off, and straight out yelled at her? Not a good thing. I wonder how you mom would react if she knew everything. Sure she’s your mom, and moms love their kids, but she’s not cold hearted, like how you’ve shown yourself.

SkyyKirby44 July 11, 2012, 1:41 AM EST.
Let’s take a step back here everyone. Let’s tally up the score for all the lovely haters for Mike and Lucy out there.
been a bitch to mike just about the entire time she’s known him.
Can be considered a constant annoyance.
Very attached to individual people. (Mike especially.)
(Has a reason: personality/defensive retaliation to anything that would normally embarrass her or make her seem weak, low, etc.
Has source: excluded by everyone in childhood due to more boy-ish tastes. Major lacking in trust. And other origins I didn’t feel like digging up.
These are the main negative things people quote often, and anything else is too minor to be included anyway.
Dramatic irony of her loving mike (for the majority of the comic.)
Anybody with a soul would count this as an addition to character. They ARE (or atleast WERE) best friends after all, and the only reason Lucy did not tell him earlier, (take note Lucy haters) is because she was content with just being his friend.
She hasn’t always been a complete ***. Granted she is rough, and annoying, there have been several times where her and mike have shared happy moments and enjoyed eachother’s company.
Heroic self-detriment. This is especially apparent in the newer chapters, no matter what goes on, Lucy selflessly takes the blame, Despite the fact mike’s rant in december went WAY overboard, she STILL took the blame. She is unnessasarialy taking the hits for these things, and I personally have loads of respect for her for doing so. ALSO, if you didn’t notice, even while loving mike, and knowing he chooses sandy, she STILL supports it and tries to make him HAPPY. Even at the loss of her own.
Good girl Lucy. Does anyone remember CONFRONTATION? im pretty damn sure mike dosn’t! Sure, Lucy absolutely DESTROYED her chance there by doing her usual ‘play it off and avoid anything bad’ with her blatant lying. But what happened before that? Oh, just Lucy defending a barely conscious mike and all their friends with her life… taking quite a beating too… I guess mike conveniently forgot that while screaming at her upstairs.
Before you grumble on how short the list is, remember alot of the things left out may be as good as those above, but are mainly minor.
Selfish and increcingly rude, and unnessasarialy cruel to poor Lucy. And on top of that, he never takes the blame for things, and instead actively tries to get others to sympathize with his ‘is incredible suffering’
(Has a reason: well.. he did take a lot of crap from her, but even that still does not excuse his current attitude.
(Has a source: one could argue its directly from Lucy, I personally believe it is sandy’s role in the comic that has caused his shift. As soon as sandy became a more important role in his life, he immedently started growing less and less friendly towards Lucy. Nobody can blame him for saying no to Lucy when she said she loved him, but he really.. REALLY should of said that better. He was incredibly blunt and has continued to be, and nothing has changed it.
Hmm… I feel like im already forgetting what I have wrote..
Well, let me toss this in here then.. I may of said he overdid his rant in december… this is no debate. At first, it was fine.. in fact, under different circumstances, I probably would of yelled at Lucy too. But these weren’t opportune circumstances. And even with her doing her best to preserve their fragile friendship, he chose then, right then, to rant. Now, as I said, some of that would be okay. Tell her you don’t want her around? Sure, tell her you are tired of what she does? Fine. Tell her you hate her? Okay. Scream it over and over? Not okay. Quote every one of her flaws and Make up more just because your on a roll? Not okay. I could go on for eeeever on this list. But I won’t.
(And since I have forgotten what I typed at the top of this section, I will now move on.)
He’s a good guy. Really, he is. NOPE. scratch that, WAS a good guy. But let’s talk about that good guy instead. He was good humored, lighthearted, kinda, a goodp
frienod, protective, obviously was crushing on Lucy but didn’t put too much effort into it. And lots of other whatever. How much of that went away? Alot..
new mike.. let’s see..
For one he’s at least dedicated. Shoot, he destroyed a lifetime friendship, and ruined relations with many other friends just to see his old girlfriend! He’s straitfoward, a little too much though..
Concerned Citizen July 11, 2012, 1:45 AM EST.
Words of the wise, don’t type long messages from a phone. Half of what I wrote (the god damn best part) just dissapeared!
Well… so much for my attempt at a nice, long, thoughtful critique on the two screw-ups.
Concerned Citizen July 11, 2012, 1:46 AM EST.
That video made my morning! Though it seems Mike could do with mellowing out a little. He’s taking this **** way too personally. I do see where he’s coming from, though, there is certainly a lack of people in-comic taking his side right now.
I mean, Sandy isn’t like pulling a Paulo or anything, but she’s trying her best to make him be more levelheaded.
StushiJaguar July 11, 2012, 1:46 AM EST.
Oh, just shut up, Mike. God. Do yourself a favor and ignore her if she bothers you. She said it herself: She will not bother you anymore. Isn’t that good enough for you? Now go be happy with Sandy.
… now see what you made me do, you dickweed? You made me use proper HTML coding to express how strongly I feel. Thanks a lot!

sandy’s got the right idea, thankfully!
all he needs to do now is (hopefully) follow her advice.
Milly July 11, 2012, 1:53 AM EST.
of course he has no suffering in these, you know that he was rejected by lucy right. We know that he used to have feelings for her. We know that he accepted the way that Lucy treated him only because he still had the hope that she will love him back. if you have the same way of think the things that Mike, you start to hate the person who rejected you and start to be bad with her.
He is just acting in a defensive way and we have to let him understand his own mistakes because I DO NOT APPROVE HIS ATTITUDE. but i still like the character.
I think the blame is for Lucy and for Mike, in different ways obviously.
Mike should have stoped all this a long time ago, before it come to this drama. (Still learning english i hope you get my idea)
Chileanguy July 11, 2012, 1:54 AM EST.
It amuses me, how everyone is pointing out Mikes suffering. What suffering? I’ve already heard about terrible abuse he went true. Either I’m supposed to feel sorry something I only caught glimpse of during flashback, or I’m supposed to treat seriously slapstick situations. Which is SILLY.
Naw, sorry, but only way I feel bad for him, is when miss author decides to explain his current behaviour by making another retcon, making him officially retarded.

Woah, he was rejected? By someone he loved? Ok, let me grab my violin. Seriously, we’re talking about suffering. Like you know, when someone told you you’re parasite, mentally crushed you, and most likely caused a depression. Or other instance, when after being rejected you were almost raped by someone who looked like being born from Sephiroth’s ***. Or someone who watched his mother being abused for years. You know - suffering. Not a poor childish guy feeling little boo, boo, because a girl won’t return his feelings.

The funny thing is Sandy has no idea that she is the root cause of this, by telling Micheal that he’s being abused, and that she never really understood what was going on in the first place. Or she realizes that things have gone a bit further than she wanted them to go.
Too bad Mike’s out over the edge now. Yes Mike, now is totally the right time to feel bitter and resentful, right in front of your sweet girlfriend. Clearly the optimal reaction here is to talk about how you’re always the bad guy to everyone ever, because you know, that totally won’t make you look like you deserve everything that’s happening to you.
Bonus points if you say that everyone is angry at you for not getting together with Lucy after she confessed her love to you, thus making yourself look a lot less sympathetic.
Titanium Dragon July 11, 2012, 2:26 AM EST.
Everyone saying that Mike is a jerk, etc. But try to put yourself in his shoes, he has a traumatized girl (for what reason, i don’t know cause i read this from the beginning and yet to find a solid reason), needing his attention 24/7. He has HIS own life, man. He done much for Lucy, and yet it is still not enough for her.
Though I am not his supporter entirely. He IS a wussy, can’t say no to Lucy when the time needed, and when he did, it was already too late and Lucy went ‘broke’. If he did that years ago, i could say that their relationship wouldn’t be severe like it is now.
Yeah, he need to apologies, but can’t you guys go a bit easier on him?? I’m surprise that there are Lucy’s faction and Mike’s faction here. What i see is two teenagers which are to be blame for their strained relationship.

@ Commentor Zero
i am not sayin he suffered, i just think that he dont want to be the jerkface of Lucy anymore and he started to create hate with that idea. I must say that sandy helped in this proces but she is not gulty of how mike take her opinions. if you are a friend of someone and in a moment of anger you say all that things that you have been saving from a lot of years of relationship, is obvious that you are going to say something that will hurt that person pretty bad.
Chileanguy July 11, 2012, 2:37 AM EST.
jfc mike could you be any more petulant if you /tried/?
gosh i’ve just been wanting to punch him in the face the last several chapters seriously.
way to go sandy i’m so proud of you for not holding on to anything negative towards lucy and even trying to help them mend their friendship
four for you sandy, you go sandy
zan July 11, 2012, 2:42 AM EST.
yes mike, yes you are again you selfish jerk, i mean come on just for once in your life just feel bad for something actually bad you just did!!!
bankai July 11, 2012, 2:44 AM EST.
Sandy your in my good books officially cause all you want to to is help them both cause they were friends. But mike needs a reality check he obviously has issues especially with the opposite sex thinking that all girls are turning against him cause he hurt lucy’s feelings and lucy poured her heart out to say how sorry she is, is it not enough? either mike accepts how sorry lucy is and be the good guy or he could just full out reaveal the selfish person that he is and get dumped and walk around with a sign round his neck saying “****”.
( excuse the emotion put in this comment I am a huge shoujo addict ^^’ )
Mimichi1234312 July 11, 2012, 2:45 AM EST.
yep you are the bad guy mike but…sandy it’s a great person..i apologize for talking badly with her
Jlaw July 11, 2012, 2:47 AM EST.
I don’t know why I bother going through the comments.
Rydux July 11, 2012, 2:50 AM EST.
I guess everyone likes how Sandy is handling this but for some reason, I don’t. I don’t expect her to break up with him or cause some big scene but I just want someone to SCOLD the boy.
Seriously, the way she talks to him reminds me of what my mother does with me all the time.
“I didn’t mean that baby, I mean you should have done this because you deserve better.”
I know someone should be talking to him and I’m too quick to say that Sandy is being too soft on him but right now, Mike is acting like a spoiled brat to me. He really doesn’t have much to be defensive about other than his own guilt. Seriously, how he reacts even feels like one of my arguments with my little sister. When someone finally decides to tell me to talk to her or to apologize, I get all huffy and say “I’m the bad guy again, huh?” When honestly, it was my fault in the first place.
I feel like a butt later and blah blah blah.
Anyway, he’s just acting spoiled and childish.
Mike honestly needs someone a little tougher than Sandy to tell him he did something wrong or Sandy can drop her sugar coating for two seconds to tell him she means buisness.
Wow Delta, he isn’t a jerk. You completely changed me mi—
Oh, oh wait… What is this…?
Oh, wait, I see something else… Well there was that time with the thugs. The very responsible Mike decided to make a bet with a stranger and gotten himself drunk. I suppose you could say ‘HE DIDN’T KNOW ANY BETTER’ but I’m sure a mother like Mike’s would tell her child not to take anything from strangers.
I suppose I could go through all the chapters and make as many points that Mike doesn’t really deserve that much slack while you can make many points about how Lucy is a horrible person who deserves every bit of it.
Mew July 11, 2012, 2:57 AM EST.
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOD!!!! SERIOUSLY DUDE??? You are such a victim aren’t you? UGH! CAN’T STAND HIM!!!! If I were a character in this comic I would pop in cameo style to just punch him hard in the face and just as quickly vanish right after saying “Here now you really are a victim! Douche!”
Paulo better get to cheering up Lucy!
ChicaBoricua July 11, 2012, 3:05 AM EST.
Just because you’ve figured out how to evade the “signing= I am a prat” message does not mean that it wasn’t specifically tailored for you and you don’t deserve it.
Neither does it make you funnier.
@Lucy Hate Crew
Mike is just as in the wrong. He could have discussed his problems rationally. He could have ended it without breaking Lucy.
@Mike Hate Crew
Lucy is just as in the wrong. She could have asked him far earlier. She could have decided to follow the logical path and actually stop being cruel to him. She could have decided to move on. She could have made new friends. She could have gotten help about her insecurity. She could have done so many things different. It should not be a surprise that this happened. They’re only children. They shouldn’t be expected to know exactly what to say and exactly when speaking your mind is wrong and exactly when admitting your wrong is the strongest thing you could say.
Think about who you are hardcore supporting and think about the possibility that, perhaps, just maybe, they aren’t entirely in the wrong.

“the girl that made his life a living hell…”
Right, sorry for nearly drowning myself to save you, giving me a permanent fear of water for the rest of my life…..
Sorry for throwing myself in front of you when a gang tried to kill you, putting myself at risk of getting beaten, killed, and/or possibly raped,
I know I didn’t have to, BUT I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A FUN WAY TO MAKE YOUR LIFE A LIVING HELL.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a crazy Mike-hater, and I’ve already made that clear all through these comments….
but don’t you think “made his life a living hell” is a little exaggerative, overly-dramatic, and not really truthful? =.=;
First, what @Mew said.
actually, that about covers it.
Lucy’s not the bad guy either.
They both had their flaws and part in it all, and they seriously just need to use the bizarre thing that rational people like to call communication.

WHY ARE STILL ANNOYED?!
Because honestly, Lucy says she’s sorry And she meant it.
You go Sandy.
wr3h July 11, 2012, 3:39 AM EST.
@headdesk <— That.
I’m not a hardcore Lucy supporter. I feel for her simply because she’s ‘trying’. She has been trying for a while and of course she won’t be good at it. It’ll look dramatic to some people and hardly believable but Lucy has been trying hard enough for Mike to at least some of the changes.
The most notable one?
She had been avoiding him. I suppose you can saw that Mike hasn’t had the chance to see the changed Lucy but I really doubt it. He had more than enough time before December and the toned down way she was with him during December should have shown something too.
Edit: Oh yuh, Lucy didn’t return his affections? >3>;
And the next page… I think Mike sticks around Lucy long enough to translate what she means. >3>;
Cause, you know, as a evil and abusive person, suggesting to play video games and being happy that your friends love life is down right horrible.
Mew July 11, 2012, 3:40 AM EST.
Oh, Mike. I think Sandy the LAST person to make you out as the bad guy in this.
Laufente July 11, 2012, 3:44 AM EST.
In the last panel you dissapoint me dude. You’re not the bad guy, so don’t say things like that, just ignore the message. Now you know Lucy will stay of your back so relax and have a good time goddamnit… Or else you’re going to srew up big time…
Me, myselve and I July 11, 2012, 3:50 AM EST.
Nooooo, you just crushed her self-esteem to nothing and made her consider suicide. After she tried to accommodate your feelings, which she learned about from some random stranger. You’re totally the good guy, Mike!
KiwiKoala July 11, 2012, 3:50 AM EST.
“He done much for Lucy, and yet it is still not enough for her.”
Lucy constantly showed her affections for Mike, she just did so in a way that he didn’t understand.
She didn’t realize that he didn’t understand. ( and seriously, he did kindof seem like he understood. )
She appreciated it, she appreciated him, and he meant a lot to her. She just wasn’t sure how to ( or was to scared to ) show it blatantly……
“Though I am not his supporter entirely. He IS a wussy, can’t say no to Lucy when the time needed, and when he did, it was already too late and Lucy went ‘broke’. If he did that years ago, i could say that their relationship wouldn’t be severe like it is now.”
exactly. he needed to SAY SOMETHING. he NEVER DID THOUGH.
She was under the impression that he understood her and her strange way of showing affection, and that he was okay with it. Their friends always knew it, and most of the time he seemed like he did too. I still wonder if it wasn’t so much that he didn’t understand it—— as it was that he just didn’t like the way she went about it.
“What i see is two teenagers which are to be blame for their strained relationship.”
[ I think they’ve both had their part in the mishap, and I don’t think that one is better than the other. Though, at this point, Lucy seems to have had realizations and matured, and ( in the words of @Qsandas
“So yeah, maybe she abused you, but you’ve done just as much to earn her hatred as she did yours. The difference? She matured and still wants to see you happy, even if it’s without her.” ) Mike has yet to mature in the way that Lucy has…..
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure he will….. unless he really does have no soul…. O.e;
but…. I’m sure he probably has a soul, because Taeshi’s characters usually do. ; ]
and @Mew found a good example of the few times she was really, REALLY obvious. :3 ( thanks for that, Mew >3< )
headdesk July 11, 2012, 3:51 AM EST.

No duh Mike given the very cruel way you told Lucy she deserved to be alone and all her friends would rally to you and leave her in the dust, yeah you ARE the bad guy this time Mike. Whatever Lucy did in the past never warranted what you said and did.
Weltall84 July 11, 2012, 4:18 AM EST.
Come on, let’s give the boy a break. Sandy did not blame him in any way, so if he says “I’m the bad guy once again” that is an idea he has got by himself, and i guess it means that he does feel some guilt.
Cavara July 11, 2012, 4:38 AM EST.

Alopex July 11, 2012, 4:56 AM EST.
Oh, look, here I am after months, and it’s all the same.
I’m just going to say that there’s a double standard emerging here, with people hating mike because he’s a jerk to a girl. When that girl was a jerk to him, wou were all “oh he just doesn’t GET her”. The characters are all immature dicks, you’re all a bunch of whiny schoolchildren who should have outgrown this diabetic story years ago and Taeshi is a troll for fanning your hate. But what does she care, right, she’s getting rich off of this crap comic. I wonder how many PS3s she has already.
Dext July 11, 2012, 5:03 AM EST.
I love Sandy now, she’s a wonderful person it seems. She’s very understanding and forgiving. I even noticed before hand that she said to Mike “I don’t think I like her” about Lucy, she didn’t mention hating her just not liking her.
I think she handled the whole situation great, but here was me hoping Mike would of seen the error of his ways…I never saw him as a bad guy until he started all this rubbish, he was one of my favourite characters, he seriously needs a reality check and I wonder how Sandy is going to react to his comment. I mean why are they even making their first meeting together about Lucy anyway? Can he just not feel a bit guilty and drop it?
Kit July 11, 2012, 5:20 AM EST.
I like how Mike instantly jumps to the conclusion that Sandy considers him the bad guy in this situation. Even though she didn’t even imply that. Guiltyconscioussayswhatmike?
Disnee July 11, 2012, 5:25 AM EST.
And like that Mike proceeds to demostrate how much more of a ***** he can be.
P.S. I can not belive I am falling so much for Sandy’s charm! She really is quite good at making good first impressions.
Death of Ink July 11, 2012, 5:29 AM EST.
You knew it was coming, a reply to your comment. Nobody needs to hear you beat down on this story like that, or talk about someone being rich from this comic. I am sure Taeshi sells enough keychains to pay for all of her bills then go out and buy multiple PlayStation3’s. I am sure that is how it works. Ok, I might have been a LITTLE sarcastic about that, maybe its the fact that the page is riddled with advertisements. Wait… it’s not…
We can all have our own opinions of whether or not a story is good or bad, but you should not discourage the author. Don’t know if you noticed but the artwork in this comic has seriously evolved over time, it’s gotten great.
Anyways, if you don’t like the story, then so what, you don’t like it. Leave it alone then, you don’t have to read it if you don’t want to. But I do like the story, and when people leave discouraging comments it saddens me, I know you are entitled to your own opinion, but what if somebody came out and looked at something you have worked tremendously hard on for the last 5 years or so and said, “Wow, you are a horrible person for even attempting to do anything.”. You know? It just sounds mean.
And I am not a whiny school child, I just woke up at 5 in the morning to go to my job. If I want something to whine about, I can whine about my hours.
The Guy in the Background July 11, 2012, 5:36 AM EST.
Once again, Sandy’s being really mature. While Mike seems to believe everyone’s out to get him. I can understand where he’s coming from. Kind of. In the past people almost always took Lucy’s side when the two were fighting.
But Sandy’s his own girlfriend, she’d be the last person to make him be the bad guy. Although this time he would’ve deserved it.
LH July 11, 2012, 5:38 AM EST.
For all you Mike haters, here’s a little something for you:
Imagine being in his situation.
When in pre-school, you had a ”friend” who kept bugging you, a boyish girl, who actually did care for you, though showing it in a bit of a misleading way. And then you found love in another girl. The boyish girl is unable to cope when you’re unable to pay attention to her when you three play.
Your young love moves from town, and you’re left alone, but your old friend finds you again, but you rejected her because of how you thought you hated her. yet she kept pushing on, and after a while you find yourself getting used to the rough treatment. it keeps going like this until you yet again get contact with your young love, you and she ”argue” and compete, and she roughen you up every now and then. You realize how you loathe her treatment of you when you talk to your love.
Your friend blames you for almost killing her when you fell into the water, an accident which of course could’ve been avoided, but nor forseen. You yourself almost died that day. yet you let her give you the blame. When history replays itself, when you save your friend from falling into the chasm, you yet again take the blame for what happened.
*add in all other events involving the two of you that are relatively unhappy*
and finaly you two have a fight. which leads to this event you now see at the top of this webpage.
I know just as much as you that what Mike said to Lucy is exceptionally unforgiveable, but he isn’t the only one to blame. Lucy’s treatment cannot be excused because of that she’s a girl and that it was with good meaning, it still is a form of ohysical discomfort, or abuse if I am to exaggerate.
It’d be extremely testing to have a friend like Lucy, I hope you understand that. Her treatment has each day taken it’s toll on Mike’s mind. He has basically never lashed out at her, like she have. When he finaly does, you name him a dick, yet when she roughened him up all this time you said that she’s an adorable little angel who is just misunderstood. What she have done in the past adds up, people. What she have done is just as unforgiveable.
Both are to blame not just Mike.
Both lives have been hard, and none of them are simple, not in the least are their personalities simple.
Get this through your thick heads, because I don’t think that you yourselves could’ve stayed completely sane if you had Mike’s personality. Not everyone is as tough as you are. Give him some slack, as he himself said, because not everyone can take mental abuse and stay kind to the abuser. (Yes abuse is a strong word, but I don’t think that it is uncalled for.)
A man with a paperbag July 11, 2012, 5:39 AM EST.
Good panel Taeshi! I am excited to see the next one!
And… The artwork is fantastic as always, like, incredible fantastic!
The Guy in the Background July 11, 2012, 5:39 AM EST.
Ah, Mike. It’s not always about you. But then, you’re a teenager, so you don’t know that yet.
Elena July 11, 2012, 5:49 AM EST.
I also think it’s interesting that he pushed Lucy away for Sandy and Sandy has effectively just thrown it back in his face. Love ya work Sandy.
Cyph July 11, 2012, 6:00 AM EST.
@A man with a paperbag
To me it didn’t seem like this “Your young love moves from town, and you’re left alone, but your old friend finds you again, but you rejected her because of how you thought you hated her. yet she kept pushing on, and after a while you find yourself getting used to the rough treatment”
It looked more like he saw her as a replacement to Sandy, breaking her heart and causing paranoia. He would see her as Sandy and stick by her. I don’t remember her clinging to him so quickly but rather feeling quite betrayed.
Also don’t forget the couple of times she risked her life for him. Including the situation with the thug cat.
If Mike had any serious issues with the hitting he could of just told her to stop, because I’m almost certain she would of. You should always try with a couple of warnings first before bringing out the big guns and completely emotionally crippling a person. How would you like it if you called your friend some silly name or rough housed with them a bit, but they never seemed to care? they just ignored it or perhaps laughed along, and then one day years later they just randomly explode at you saying they hate you, and not only do they hate you but everyone else does as well? It’s sick what he did.
Kit July 11, 2012, 6:01 AM EST.
Either grudging acceptance, or him still being a jerk, just less of a jerk.
And “I think she gets the point”????
I think Mike should be the one getting the point!
Kuro July 11, 2012, 6:05 AM EST.
You always were, mike….
Ronyle143 July 11, 2012, 6:24 AM EST.
I actually think I understand why Mike reacted the way he has.
When Lucy first confessed her love, pretty much Everyone ganged up on him, telling him that he should have accepted it and returned Lucy’s feelings. He’s been told that “long distance relationships never work” and that his relationship with Sandy doesn’t count, and when Mike first yelled at Lucy, Daisy told him to chase her, and called him a Jerk.
While I understand Lucy is a complicated character, and a good person at heart, it seems like all their friends are very quick to defend her, while Mike often gets painted as the bad guy. He had made it clear that he doesn’t want a relationship with Lucy, and Sue deliberately cast them together in the play to try and get them talking. Even Abbey, the most level-headed guy at the table said “you love her too - what possible reason would you have to say no.”
It does feel like all his friends are on Lucy’s side, and forget that he has feelings too.
While I disagree with his grudge and think he could have certainly handled it better, I don’t think he’s actually a jerk - I think he’s hurt.
I think this hit him particularly hard because it’s coming from Sandy, the one person who is totally on his side in his mind. I think Mike is just sick and tired or people disregarding how he feels.
Dolphinbread July 11, 2012, 6:29 AM EST.

Ark July 11, 2012, 6:45 AM EST.
Mike…this should be hell for you.
Megadude July 11, 2012, 6:47 AM EST.
As much as I dislike Mike at the moment, I kind of feel like he has a point in that last panel, because Sandy’s being a bit disingenuous here. Yes, she’s being very mature and rational about the situation now and that’s good, but back when she was hearing about Lucy’s behaviour from Mike over the phone her response wasn’t “you should talk it out with her.” Her response was to cry and say “I don’t like this girl at all.”
Okay, so receiving that text might have made her realise that she didn’t have the full picture and was judging Lucy unfairly, but if that’s the case she should say so rather than acting like this was her stance all along and Mike just misinterpreted her, because that’s just going to make him feel like he’s being jerked around.
Bluh July 11, 2012, 6:52 AM EST.
Oh, Mike, you silly scamp.
You still see nothing wrong with what you’ve done. :3
I pity whomever wined up with your silly, abusive self.
Dr.Z July 11, 2012, 6:57 AM EST.
I hope Mike understands what he has done now that Sandy says it to him too
Of course Sandy said that she doesn’t like Lucy at all but she was shocked then about what she had done to Mike, now that she has seen that Lucy is really sorry, she sees that’s there is a good person in Lucy after all and she wants that Mike talks things out with Lucy
I didn’t like Sandy at all until now
Even though Mike has done bad things to Lucy, and he was a jerk, but he can still fix things and become a non-jerk
Llama July 11, 2012, 7:06 AM EST.
sorry to say mike you’ve been the bad guy all this time XP lets hope that changes
Anima July 11, 2012, 7:06 AM EST.
I say they’ll end up arguing. I mean Sandy and Mike. And so he’ll have another reason to hate Lucy for. Probably situation will lead to the point when AIDS spread in Africa, national terrorism, and the fact that David acts black are all caused by Lucy. Since her depression is obviously another act of manipulation! And that means everything is her fault.
Commentor Zero July 11, 2012, 7:13 AM EST.
aaaaaand I’m still totally shipping Lucy x Sandy
starling July 11, 2012, 7:17 AM EST.
@Dolphinbread That’s a really well thought out comment, it makes a lot more sense now why he’s acting like this
Kit July 11, 2012, 7:28 AM EST.
Wow, Mike such a VICTIM! He just thinks; The whole world is out to get him and he has done nothing wrong.
Well that’s not true. Sure Lucy gets a treated with kid gloves by a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean you can destroy her emotionally and then get ****** when your girlfriend asks you to be the bigger person.
YaoiQueen July 11, 2012, 7:32 AM EST.
I would say Dolphin is right…
But in my honest opinion. Mike seems a little too ignorant throughout to be purely “hurt”.
Remember the flashbacks of Lu’s childhood?
Remember also how he mocked her about her rebounds?
And how mike seems to take offence because Lucy associates with others (that one page where he makes a disgusted face because she’s been -talking- to final fantasy c- I mean augustus)?
These three points, he’s been ignorant of not only lucy but the world around him because of Sandy. Not Sandy’s fault, she’s a good one- She even tried including Lucy back then.
Second, Technically, Lucy is Mike’s rebound and he’s treating her thus.
Aaaand he might have a possessive streak?
He’s not so much hurt as guilty. Say what you will but I think it’s actually his CONSCIENCE speaking here. He knows what he did was uncalled for. And not just it, several other things, possibly, too.
My point here being, the “hurt” may be the base of it, but what’s making it worse is the other “hurt”, namely that nagging feeling of guilt that he’s been refusing to accept quite a few times.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but mike seems to like that phrase: “So I’m the bad guy, again?”
Not trying to bash on his fans or anything, but there’s no “defending” guilt. Emotional scars, yes. Not guilt.
And if you are saying it’s all emotional scars while blaming Lucy.
Then I say emotional scars, because her childhood most certainly had her get a lot of those when it comes to others, and Mike hasn’t shown the capability of adapting to that.
So, the two main “culprits”?
And teenage years.
You know what I mean, surely
starling July 11, 2012, 7:42 AM EST.

Mike…you are the bad guy!
Emerald Raiju July 11, 2012, 8:03 AM EST.
I like how half of the mike fans are trying to be mature about this.
And the other half is all “I hate lucy and you should feel bad about supporting her even though I’m twice as bad at being civil than you are”
(something I just noticed)
Paperbag, you’re kind of waaaay off.
As I recall it, Lucy didn’t start being physical (as in shoving Mike) until AFTER he’d betrayed her.
You know, by throwing her away like trash, then coming back later.
Lu was coping with -being shut out- by just going elsewhere, after a while.
Lucy’s a nice person by now, she’s willing to sacrifice herself for friends, she does things for others even with her forceful habits. She’s smart, and she’s not weak, perhaps except emotionally- but she’s showing growth in that area, and now she’s learned to apologize and admit she’s wrong.
Lastly, she’s cute.
How can you hate that? ;-;
I’m not bashin’ Mike. just sayin’.
starling July 11, 2012, 8:05 AM EST.
oh look, mike supporters suddendly and misteriously increased in number. surely taeshi’s video has nothing to do with this…
mike’s arm is reeeeally tiny in the first panel! ahahah!
on a serious note, I think I understood exactly why mike said “I hate you” to lucy, and why he cried while doing so.
it’s because mike loved lucy too, but she always refused him. then, when he decided to “devote” to sandy (in a painful long-distance relationship), lucy said “I love you”. first, he felt sad for saying “no”. he had sandy, he could not say “yes”. then I think he started hating lucy more because she admitted her love when he could not stay with her anymore.
at his house, when lucy said “if there’s someone who can make you happy again, I’m glad”, mike got mad because he got it as if lucy thought he was not happy because he couldn’t stay with her, and said “you’re talking like I wasn’t happy already” to mean “I’m happy with sandy, without you”.
then he freed his anger and said “I hate you”, and cried because she made him suffer (not on purpose, obviously).
the things he said after that were just evil but he was talking without thinking. he was just giving vent to his anger.
what do you think?
“Not a poor childish guy feeling little boo, boo, because a girl won’t return his feelings.”
asd, you almost said the same thing augustus said to lucy. and you hate augustus, if I understood who you are…

What the heck must Lucy do for you, that you stop to see her as your Enemie and see her as the Friend she ever was ?
It’s has nothing to do with “Who is the Bad guy?”

Yes Mike. Yes you are.

Shhhh… Anyway, yeah, can’t stand that guy, though he was right at that one moment. Abbey is someone who’s life was turned into hell, and he’s someone with problems. And that’s just one example, since we’ve seen most of similliar stuff so far. None linked with Mike. So as I said before: to me he’s a spoiled kid, not someone who “went through hell”.
This video is another step to spread the word about Mike’s douchebaggery all over the world. Mike haters all over the world, unite!
Commentor Zero July 11, 2012, 8:41 AM EST.
Based on Mike’s (continually bad) actions, and that video Taeshi provided, I get the feeling that she WANTS us all to irrationally hate Mike…
Would this be an accurate theory Taeshi, or am I just seeing what isn’t there?

No Mikey nooooo ;__;
Lolly July 11, 2012, 8:47 AM EST.
Mike ‘betrayed’ Lucy when they were like what, seven? And still felt incredibly guilty about that for years after. And he wasn’t even her friend as such back then - she just kept following him around. She wasn’t even that nice to him back then, but did he /have/ to be her friend? He actually liked Sandy; Lucy being alone (unfortunately) was Lucy’s problem in so far as there was no obligation for the seven year old Mike to stick around. It’s just sad really that everyone at their school wouldn’t let her play (well, actually, I think they might have later on, but who knows now? By that time she wasn’t very receptive to the idea of being friends with anyone but Mike).
Also, sorry, but elementary school years are pretty traumatic for most people, not just Lucy. You lose friends, other kids tell you they don’t want to play with you, yadda yadda yadda… This does not excuse her insecurity for years and years to come, because she refused the offer of friendship from most everyone but Mike, unless it was entirely on her own terms. Daisy has generally been very nice to her, for example, as has Sue. They’ve told her that other people care, but she didn’t seem to listen. She actually refused to go to the vacation unless Mike was going. She did not try to make other friends.
Despite this, yes, the current situation is pretty much Mike’s fault because Lucy is trying to grow up and he was incredibly mean to her. It’s not all his responsibility though. People always seem to be telling him what’s best for him (like at the table after Lucy confessed - that was really jerkassy to put him on the spot like that). It’s like no one would just let him be himself and only wanted him to be some sort of puppet to please Lucy or something. Their friends really need to treat Mike better and give him some space, and he needs to stop taking everything out on Lucy…

Huh? July 11, 2012, 9:11 AM EST.
I bet that if the roles were reversed, and Lucy was trying to break off connections with a formerly abusive stalker Mike, Lucy wouldn’t get a fraction of the hate Mike does.
CuckooPops July 11, 2012, 9:14 AM EST.
I really wanted to give Mike a lil bit of a chance, but he’s just acting so immature that I can’t stand him, I wanted him and Sandy to work out too cus they’re adorable but at this rate, he’s gonna mess it up and probably blame Lucy when it was his fault.
I know it’s just a comic and all, but Mike REALLY needs to grow up. (Makes for interesting drama though :3)
Flashtastic July 11, 2012, 9:16 AM EST.
Ok he clearly still feels victimized here. It’s not the best way to be, but I don’t think he understands any other to be right now. It’s like he has been wound up in a super tight knot from the treatment that he didn’t like from Lucy and that knot needs to be undone. In this respect, Sandy might be a really good influence with him to help him relax and realize there are other ways to think about things. He probably just wants to feel like he is in the right. In his point of view right now, no matter what Lucy is “attacking” him in some way shape or form.
I haven’t quite given up hope on Mike just yet…he needs time and he needs someone like Sandy to point out other points of view and to bring him out of his “selfish” state. I think he is quite capable….just needs time and patience

He’s not remorseful or sad in that last panel. Look at the way his eyebrows are drawn. In fact, this strip provides an excellent contrast: look at his expression on the fifth panel and how much it has changed by the last two panels. In the last panel in particular, when he is speaking to Sandy, his eyes have narrowed and his low flat brows show anger or at least resentment. Also note that he is looking off to the side. If he felt guilty or sad, he would more likely be looking down.
I agree that he isn’t lashing out at Sandy. But I think it’s very possible that he will in the next strip. Alternatively, he might shut down and/or shut her out. But if he decides that he is indeed the bad guy, we’re going to see his features soften considerably.

I dunno that calling Mike a jerk is exactly hate. I mean, the comic has already provided us with that bias - Lucy’s petname for him had been jerkface. And to be honest, I don’t hate him, but I do think he is in the wrong.
He’s thinking in very black and white terms right now - I am right and she is wrong and there is no grey area. Is this typical of highschool students? Absolutely. But when reading a character that has gained emotional attachment throughout the series, this kind of thinking does read as… well, being a jerk. Because we can’t see inside of Mike’s head, we don’t really know the full extent of his feelings or confusions. For all we know, he’s just said those things to Lucy because he thought that was what Sandy wanted…. which, as much as I love their relationship, does put kind of a controlling/obsessive vibe to it.
The thing is, we’re not sure exactly to what extent Lucy actually “abused” him. I mean, we’re giving Mike the benefit of the doubt and saying “oh he’s a teenager lol boys will be boys” but at the same time, Lucy was a middle-school girl. You know what happens when girls like boys in middle school and they don’t know how to say it? They hit them. It’s a fact of life, pretty much. Girls who haven’t achieved maturity tend to be defensive and, well… abusive. They’re not comfortable enough in their own skin to know how to flirt, pretty much. So was Lucy on the mean side? A little, yes. It’s not like she ever really did him permanent physical damage, and she was never excessively cruel in her insults.
What makes us so incredibly defensive of her (besides her being the main character) is that we see more of her emotional response to things. For all we know Mike went home and cried every night. We see the shades of grey in Lucy’s thinking (all fifty of them…. haha) and that makes us more understanding of her. With Mike we just get the black and the white: I love you and now I hate you. And that makes us get up on our horse and try to save our princess Lucy. Essentially, she’s a damsel in distress right now.
The art is strangely appropriate I think. A lot of soft colors for the meeting between two lovers. Also, it’s extremely hard to get watercolors right, so good on you, haha. Keep up the good work! It’s great you can illicit such emotional and thought-provoking responses. I’m actually always a little impressed by some of the comments. You have some serious philosophers in your community, haha.
Star July 11, 2012, 10:30 AM EST.
YES, MIKE! You ARE the bad guy!
First, look what you did to Lucy.
And look what she does in return.
Your girlfriend is on Both of your sides. She is happy Lucy gets her point, and wants you to be friends with her, or at least talk it over.
And you say, “I’m the bad guy once again, huh?”
Oh, please don’t tell me you are going to start on Sandy, too. If you do, I will have no respect for you. At all.
If you don’t start on Sandy, good. That’s good. But what will this lead to? Hmm?
Blossom July 11, 2012, 10:34 AM EST.
Yea I was thinking the same thing…it seems so odd for him to just suddenly hate Lucy, and why does he talk so much about a girl he shouldn’t even care about? If I hate someone I don’t freaking talk about them all the time. I would of just said to Sandy “Let’s just not talk about her and ruin our time together”.
I think he pushed Lucy away because she was temptation, he still loved her but he had to dedicate himself to Sandy.
Kit July 11, 2012, 10:38 AM EST.
*looks at the video* Oh hey, my comment got featured, kick-*** 8D.
On a different note, yeah Mikey you are a badguy. Now I know all you Mike fans are gonna go “This is Lucy’s manipulation and bla bla bla bla bla…” But ya know, I’m with @Commentor Zero on that Mike doesn’t know the meaning of ‘suffering’, hell he isn’t even close to the very definition of the word.
I’m sorry, but how high do you need to have a pedestal that you think that everyone around you are lower than the floor, and that his small time stuff equals suffering and torment. Seriously I don’t know people like that in real life who have that much of an ego about themselves. But, it’ll be interesting to see how this unravels. Will Sandy finally ground Mike’s *** and take him down several pegs or will Mike actually see this as Lucy’s evil way’s corrupting their oh so sweet love.
kanashe July 11, 2012, 10:51 AM EST.
Nah, it’s true. Lucy subconsciously threw a pity party for herself and it DOES inadvertently make Mike look bad (even if he deserves it).
Like I said on the last comic, the text message was just another desperate attempt to get Mike to stick around more, or Lucy wouldn’t have mentioned herself so many times. Lucy was just groveling and scraping and trying to do exactly what Mike wanted in order to get back on good terms with him. I knew Mike would be mad about it somehow - he hates when Lucy does that.
Booka July 11, 2012, 10:52 AM EST.

You are one of the few people that tried to see what Mike was “seeing” so to speak. That makes so much sense I wanna slap everyone else in these comments and have them read yours. It’s beautiful.
I also agree with yours! Just as well-thought out. I love that perspective.
I still love Lucy and Mike, and I’ll admit my first reaction to Mike’s statement was, “Jesus! Could you have said anything more childish, Mike?”
But then, reading through the comments, the arguments, the points everyone is giving…it made me look at Mike again and go, “Huh. He still seems like he’s in a lot of pain. A lot. He’s just hiding it and going about ‘dealing’ with it differently…”
I love Mike still, and I love Lucy as well. I really do. <3 @Taeshi You are a darling creature! Please keep writing and drawing. <3<3<3

I honestly don’t understand what’s with all the hate towards Mike. I really don’t. I do agree though,he was really harsh on Lucy in the December chapter. HOWEVER,I respect his actions because he finally took a stand to Lucy. After all these years of these beatings from this friend of yours who never seems to leave you alone no matter what you say,he speaks out his opinions to her.I personally don’t think that Mike put what he said in the right words though, imposing that no one would lover her for who she really is,how cruel of him to say.But I think Mike has a right to speak out to Lucy, she never let go of him, and he started to feel an immense feeling of frustration in his chest that he could never really let out since his friends would most certainly blame him. Now that Lucy has texted him, apologizing for how sorry she is and telling him how pitiful she must seem,Mike is beginning to think that he would be blamed for being the bad guy. I’m positive that Paulo would get angry at Mike if he found out what he did, wouldn’t he? Did you see the look on his face when Sue asked Mike if he was involved with Lucy not appearing at the party? I would understand why Mike would think that, completely. And I don’t think I could ever deal with Lucy for so long if I was Mike. Mike is a strong character, I respect that. So I don’t see why some of the BCB fans are looking at this in a kind of one sided way. And honestly, both Lucy and Mike are to blame for what is happening to them now.
SaberTiger July 11, 2012, 11:11 AM EST.
What I dont understand is why Mike can’t be happy that his friend is willing to be cut out of his life for his happiness. That’s a true friend MIKE, and eventhough i dont agree with Lucy and her actions of just letting him be I can understand her not wanting to feel like crap anymore just because he really and honestly is treating her like she doesn’t matter to him anymore.
naga July 11, 2012, 11:22 AM EST.
I’ve said it before, I’ll still say it again:
What “beatings”? What “abuse”? They hit each other and made fun of each other, anime style.
It’s no more abuse than splashing someone in the pool. Plus, Mike did it too, including shoving Lucy into the snow, and pushing her.
And, of course, if he wanted time alone he could have asked. As far as I can recall, Mike never actually asked her to go away, so she never did. Instead, he lashed out at her, several times.
We don’t hate Mike for the sake of hating Mike, most of the rational one’s of us dislike Mike’s attitude and his actions towards Lucy.
Neospector July 11, 2012, 11:27 AM EST.
@Crayon @A man with a paperbag
You guys forgot the part where Mike came back and blatantly used her as a replacement for Sandy.
Lucy makes it clear that she knows Mike sees Sandy when he looks at her, and that /that/ ( at least at the beginning, /at least/ ), is why he hangs out with her so much.
Mike makes it clear that it’s true, and admits it.
First, while most people don’t fit in with everyone, they usually find at least one group they do fit into. Lucy never did. The girls thought she was weird and the boys rejected her because she was a girl.
compared to them, Mike seemed pretty cool with her strangeness. Lucy probably thought that was acceptance, compared to how most people reacted.
Second, that was only a SMALL portion of her issues.
What really got her was ( well, a little bit, Mike’s abandonment of her. BUT MOSTLY, ) the fact that he USED her as a substitute for Sandy.
Every time he looked at her, he saw Sandy. He pretended she was Sandy.
WITH THAT IN MIND, let’s put it this way.
There’s a girl/guy that you REALLY, REALLY, REALLLY care about.
This person has made it clear to you that they only hangout with you because you’re the best substitute for the person they really wanna hang out with, because you look like her/him.
They make you aware of the fact that every time they hang out with you, or look at you, they’re seeing him/her.
You take it, because it’s all you can get, and you just want to be able to be around them.
Now one day, they tell you that they want to kiss you.
What, HONESTLY, is going through your head at that point?
would you seriously not be afraid they might only want to kiss you because they’re seeing him/her when they look at you?
Then there’s this issue, too:
You’re the replacement. you’re the second choice, second best.
The first choice could come back at any moment, and the person you love so much would leave you for the real thing in a heartbeat, and ( according to her childhood experience ) completely forget that you ever existed, never to return again.
You have serious, real feelings for this person. Can’t you imagine how much it would hurt to lose them when the real thing came back?
Wouldn’t that scare you? make you reluctant to allow yourself to get openly and vulnerably attached with no walls or defenses?
If I cared that deeply for someone, and I knew that they were only settling for me because they couldn’t get their first choice, but that their first choice could come back at any moment and I would lose them forever, I’d be really scared to let my attachments grow any more vulnerable, or get used to him being around.
I also still want to hang out with him, because of how much I care for him, but I’d be trying to keep my defenses up, especially if he started making romantic advances towards me—- and I’d be very reluctant to believe that they were actually directed at me, and not just the girl he was pretending I was.
Thus the result, Lucy.
( and to make it clear, in case you haven’t seen my older comments—- I think both sides played their own part in the mishap, and that neither is better than the other. )
Also, if I remember, Mike forgot about her twice. Which make sit even easier to fear it happening a third time.
After the first time, she asked him if they were friends ( openly showing her feelings for him ), and he said yes.
headdesk July 11, 2012, 11:42 AM EST.
Well it all depends on how you look at the Mike and Lucy relationship. Yes,I admit, they do like to mess with each other, but I personally think that Mike gets more beaten up than Lucy does. Yes,Mike did push her,but does he slap her in the face like she does to him? I know they were friends, and friends like to mess with each other, but sometimes I think Lucy would take it a little too far.And when Mike said “Couldn’t you at least appreciate me as a friend?” Lucy refused at first and said that she doesn’t need him and that she’s perfectly fine without. Truthfully though, she did need him,am I right? But I understand why you would say that.
Mike never did ask, that’s true. But I honestly think that Lucy could’ve at least backed up sometimes. She really did cling to him for a while, and both her and Mike are to blame. I respect your point of view.
SaberTiger July 11, 2012, 11:50 AM EST.
UNRELATED TO MY LAST COMMENT:
I sortof read the last line from Mike more as defensive, sortof like…. “Oh, so now you’re siding with her too.”
Now I’m really curious to know which way he meant it. ;
I think denying that she needed him was fear….
In the past my boyfriends have always used the knowledge of how much I care for them against me, so as a result, I wouldn’t openly complement my current boyfriend for ages, and even after that I kept telling him “not to tell his ego I said it” for a pretty long while.
It’s really hard for me to control how much I care about a person, and most people tend to take advantage of that fact, so when I feel really threatened, I get sortof spiny like Lucy.
I’m seriously the most overly affectionate person in the world. X__________X
but when I let people know that, I end up getting used as a doormat, so I’m always having to watch myself, and since it’s so unnatural to me, it makes me come off as spiny to those who don’t know me.
( for the record, I’m now insanely open with my boyfriend. ; )
but he also never used me as a second-choice substitute because I looked like his first choice…. >___________>
headdesk July 11, 2012, 11:51 AM EST.
^ Just like Lucy has a tendency to not trust any friendships because she thinks they just want her for her looks?
He’s not a mental mess, he just has flaws like everyone else.
ichigo.cat July 11, 2012, 11:57 AM EST.
Also, for those “true friend” comments. There comes a time when there’s a point of no return in a friendship. Sometimes you’ve just had enough regardless of whether that person goes on to become Mother Teresa. It’s good to encourage people to talk things out but it’s not ok to peer pressure to try ad get along with someone he can’t be bothered with.
Believe, I was stuck like that getting “friendly insults” for 3 years until I finally decided to stop listening to everyone and trust myself.

I agree, he shouldn’t be forced to be her friend again, and honestly, I kindof hope they won’t be…..
But there was no need for him to act the way that he did, either. ( not to the extreme that he took it, I mean. )
and it wouldn’t hurt to at least calmly and maturely clear the air before they go their separate ways.

mikedawn July 11, 2012, 12:39 PM EST.
@SaberTiger: It wasn’t “taking a stand”, because it came AFTER she’d stopped picking on him and started being nice to him. His tirade didn’t come in response to insults or abuse, but to her swallowing her own feelings and telling him she was happy for him and his girlfriend. That’s not taking a stand. The time for that had passed but I don’t think he’d even noticed that she’d changed, he was too bogged down in his own bitterness.

First things first, I totally agree with Sandy and secondly Mike you took her advice which is good but you done it too far. You were supposed to give the point to Lucy as she was willing to stop the abuse and give you the respect she should of given you, but no you have to make youself hostile to her. She is guilty of being a bad friend and you are guilty of becoming her enemy. You became the bad guy at the start of your raging hatred. Your girlfriend think you gone too far as she just wanted you to be respected by Lucy. I would have more to say if I had more time to sort all this pshycological and dramatic complication, but I’ll just go with waiting for the next update.

>Come on guys, he’s only a teenager, he’s allowed to be a jerk, that’s what teens do! You were that way too once!
Also, no Mike, don’t do this, it doesn’t matter here if you are the bad guy are not. Do not make it this black and white. Sandy is obviously not seeing you as less of a person now, do not screw this up for yourself.
Especially since the way you are now, you’ll blame it on Lucy for making Sandy see you as the “bad guy”.
ALL Sandy is saying is talk it out. She is not placing blame. Do not let your desire to stay angry screw this up for you.

Know what. I used to like Mike. I thought he was a nice, likable character. But the more I see of him, the less I like him and the more I want to see things go awry in his life. Maybe if he steps up the maturity and stops walking around with that self-righteous stick up his ***, he can have his love and his friends. He’s got people that care about him, but he’s too hotheaded and blinded by his own melodrama to see it.
Great job, Tae, this looks amazing and the emotion is conveyed beautifully. I’m almost always pleasantly surprised by the directions you go in this chapter~

Yes….yes you are the bad guy mike. I know it sucks, I’ve been there before on multiple occasions. No one defends you, theres no way you’re right, even if you think you are. It’s something you just gotta accept. But knowing you, you’ll just keep fighting a pointless fight. So in the end, all I can say is….. *singing* THERE GOES A FIGHTER!! Lol
That guy July 11, 2012, 1:27 PM EST.
Okay, I no longer hate Sandy for what she did.

No, Mike, noooo, she’s not siding with anyone, she’s just trying to clear things up and (hopefully) help patch things up between him and Lucy!
Then again, I think what Mike’s saying has a deeper meaning, though I’ll suggest this deeper meaning in the form of a question:
Hasn’t it always been the case that whenever Mike states his opinion on certain things, he’s made out as the bad guy?
That’s not something for some of the haters out there I’m talking about specifically in-universe. Take a good hard look at Mike’s past interactions with his friends.
If those interactions are something to go on, Mike’s last little comment isn’t too far off. It’s something that has never gotten addressed (Lil guy REALLY needs to sort out those issues).
(Side note: That video…THAT VIDEO! Man…I’m gonna be in a good mood for the rest of this week )

I honestly do hope that you people who want Mike gone realize that, that will basically end the comic the problem will have been eliminated.

O…M….G…MIKE. I have tried to like you. I liked you at the beginning but now I don’t. I never wish ill on someone so I really hope Lucy doesn’t attempt something stupid…

Well, to start off, You’re right, and I was wrong. Yes, Lu did cope with her loss of Mike with going elsewhere. Yes, everything you said was and is right.
And I don’t hate Lucy, not a single bit, I like her just as much as Mike, I’m actually rather natural when it comes to which character is the ”good guy”
I just tried to show that Mike isn’t the only to blame, that it isn’t just his fault, to, as you could say, even the problem out a bit.
@Kit, you’re absolutely right, he did actually use Lucy as a replacement for Sandy, I didn’t actually take notice to that before, but now that I’ve gotten this pointed out for me I do.
But when it comes to the punching and the names she called him, I think that he didn’t tell her to stop with what she was doing, because that wasn’t who he was. Before the water accident, of course he could’ve, but afterwards I don’t think that he would want to because he knew what he meant to her, (or at least he thought he did, he just thought she needed him as a punching bag who wouldn’t tell her off), and that he didn’t want to upset her.
let’s see, who else replied…
Yes, you are right, I did forget about all of which you have said.
I’m very sorry if any of you thought that I was hating on Lucy. I’m not, I actually rather like her, and I never meant for it to seem like I was taking only Mike’s side. I was just trying to even the odds a little bit, and I never intended to try to work Lucy’s perspective into said explanation, even though sometimes it was in error. thank you to those who corrected me, unlike some of the Mike likers, I really want to understand all sides of a problem, not just taking sides. All are allowed to an oppinion, but sometimes people seem just plain stupid (no offense to anyone)
I’m just disturbed at how most of those who take sides with Lucy simply bombards him with comments like how terrible he is, perhaps without even taking consideration of how it would feel to be him.
A man with a paperbag July 11, 2012, 3:51 PM EST.
“Ever noticed that Mike refuses to give Lucy a break?”
Anyone remember that episode where Mike was ridiculously sad for rejecting Lucy? And then he found out she got ridiculously close with Paulo? BCB peoples be trippin’, yo
MonsieurWTF July 11, 2012, 3:57 PM EST.
He’s totally missing her point, she only wants him to talk to her, she is not blaming him for anything. And Sandy really is great, she is perfect for Mike, if he ever straitens out and stops being a jerk.
BancheeCat July 11, 2012, 3:57 PM EST.
Wow Mike, way to jump the gun. I have never been that great a fan of Mike, as I never seem to like the main male characters in stories very much, I have always like the second-in-command or even third male role in stories, not that I hate Mike or anything.
Not like some people who want to murder his soul for what he said to Lucy.
DenverDiddles July 11, 2012, 3:59 PM EST.
For the Love of Christ on the Mountainside Mike will you stop being a ******* and give Lucy another chance. She could have told Sandy you called her (Lucy) a parasite. No matter how bad Lucy has treated you I doubt Sandy would think that was the proper name to call her.
Freidrich von Wolfegang July 11, 2012, 4:01 PM EST.
Mike has a point. However this time it really is him who pushed it overboard.
Noone July 11, 2012, 4:01 PM EST.
finally this happens. i officially like sandy now. mike needs to realize that most of this stuff was his fault. at least lucy admits what she did was wrong and decided to just let him be happy with sandy. thats true love right there. someone who gives up thier friendship and love with u so u could be happy. but mike u should have realized that sandy didnt mean stop being friends with lucy. mike, its going to be a long time before u get in my good graces again. lucy, ur a great girl, and out of all the characters in bcb u matured the most. u learned and grown so much. it takes guts and courage to do what u did. lucy ur my number one fav character. u matured the most.

I am shocked, shocked I tell you to find out that the least mature lead character in this comic has an immature response to this.
Paulo has been acting more mature than Mike for a while now.

Wow, what if Lucy is to the point of no return. I don’t mean suicide, but what if mike tries to apologize or something and Lucy runs away because she’s scared of him now Oh gosh, I hope mike apologizes, and until he does, he’s kind of dead to me.

I was hoping I’d be able to see Strider’s thoughts on the recent events as they’ve had a good theory going. Maybe I missed it if they did and if they didn’t I hope they do comment soon. Anyway I’m going to try to sum up my thoughts in a less wall of text manner, so with these current events we see what Lucy did with Mike’s phone after their final argument. This, of course, puts Lucy back into the innocent girl who got her heart broken by some ‘jerk’ of a ex-best friend. When in reality(as I see it) Lucy has done this ultimately to herself, if she was a bit kinder and open to Mike maybe all this wouldn’t of happened. Anyway the point is whenever Mike does something that upsets Lucy HE’S always the one to blame, like for example in one of the chapters(I forgot which);
Lucy tried to confess to Mike, got scared and defaulted to trying to start an argument with him WHICH of course lead to some mean things being said on both ends, Lucy disappointed with herself and how she acted coupled with what Mike said in the fit of rage made her cry. Paulo comes around sees Lucy is upset and automatically jumps to her side. (Even though Mike didn’t fully know about it I think but still)
An example where Mike was shown to be the bad guy was when Lucy was finally able to confess to him and he rejected her feelings and told her that what he felt for her then isn’t how he does now. She gets upset and the next day at school the girls(after they found out) confronted Mike and said he was a bad person for rejecting her feelings and dragging out the drama. Which pretty much says to Mike “You’re not free to like other girls other than Lucy just because you guys were best friends for a while” which isn’t cool because that is them making Mike dictate to Lucy’s need and not what HE wants. Anyway I can understand why Mike feels like he’s being put out to be the bad guy again since he told Lucy how he feels after goodness knows how long of pent up anger(yeah it came out a bit harsh but he’s had enough of dealing with Lucy which is understandable) she went around and did something that made it seem like she’s the victim here more than Mike. Now Sandy wants them to be friends and play nice, but Mike feels a little betrayed that she took her side.(Which she isn’t she just wants them to be nice friends and not “Jerkface! -slap-” friends.) Mike(imo) just wants to deal with Sandy and Sandy related things, not Lucy and all the pain that comes with it.
Sorry I didn’t get to meet my no wall of text quota and most likely it’s a little confusing since my mind skipped around a lot and I apologize for that. I hope you get the gist of what I’m trying to get at. Again this isn’t a post to sway opinions or cause arguments it’s just my two cents.
Insane_Lioness July 11, 2012, 5:36 PM EST.
@headdesk - I said in my earlier comment that, yes, it must have been difficult for her, but she could have made it easier on herself. Neither her nor Mike is faultless, nor are they both all bad. I actually supported Lucy in this current arc because she is trying to grow even though it must be difficult for her. As for Mike using her as a substitute for Sandy, that was quite a long time ago - now, she was well within her rights to hold it against him and not trust him easily, the same way he has every right not to trust her because she’s hurt him in the past and she’s used Paulo and Augustus as substitutes for him, as well. But the fact is, in both cases, they both have to let go and move on, whether as friends or just as their own people. Neither one of them could have really done much more at the time to convince the other one they’re trustworthy. I understand where they’re both coming from but neither one was entirely out of options when they made those silly choices, either.

I still believe that what Mike does is the correct thing, though that may be because Mike’s personality is incredibly similar to mine and if I suffered the same problems, I would end up doing what he has done.
I would however, try to repair the bond with the friend (in this case Lucy). So I’m hoping to see that soon. Keep it up!

Mike is an a-hole, I wish sandy broke up with this d-bag, I hope he gets a sucker punch in the face and nuts from Paulo, a slap in the face by daisy, and a punch in the stomach by Abby! Gosh, oh and I Hope yashi will learned about sandy soon as you can say “*****!” and beat up mike for cheating. Rockit July 11, 2012, 10:09 PM EST.
Been reading this comic for a while now and I really like it!! Pulls the heart strings a lot though.
Anywho.. I thought Sandy was going to be a crappy char, but so far I actually kinda like her. Only because she is being the mature one and realizing that maybe she should of been more careful with her words.. But I also like how she’s trying to push Mike to get him to talk to her. Though I like how Mike never really lets the person finish what they’re about to say even though the outcome of what they WERE going to say was about something GOOD and not bad, really shows how much manners he has.
And the Vidd was a little uncalled for.. Yes, the mike hater comments are all ‘wtf you need to keep your cool! ” type of shtuff.. But they’re your Fans; they have the right to their OWN opinion, yeah?
Oh well.. Really like the water color style though.
Tatertotcandyz July 11, 2012, 10:14 PM EST.
Back for an extension,
I must say this is the first character I have ever emphasized with. I don’t like Mike and my favourite character is actually Lucy but I know how he feels sometimes. I don’t usually completely understand Mike but I just get him. Its his ‘nice’ persona, the feeling of being used and pushed over, I’ve been through that and I have not been able to forgive the parties involved(though if they were important to me I would look past that). Its so painfully close to my own and even his inner emotions make their way out. Admittedly I never made very far on hate scale as Mike but I understand that its just that he is frustrated and his rational won’t consider the others perspective. He wants what he feels is right for him and thats not wrong but he is taking the wrong methods in achieving them. Perhaps its my meek personality but there were times I wished others would just feel the way do that I would want to find a way to hurt them (never did make it to fruition though).
So Mike being an a-hole does not come as a surprise but I’m impressed with how far he can take.
I honestly don’t wish he crash and burn. I wish would he just realize what he has done and feel guilty. I know that guilt could sting harder, rip a hole through your heart deeper, and last longer than any physical punishment. It comes with being nice.
P.S. congrats to all the haters for getting a video. Wished I made more spiteful comments for that honour. Congratulations and keep on hating.

Okay, just because I watched the video, I am not going to make a comment on Mike. I never did, and I won’t start now. Lets all just agree that all this drama has gotten out of hand.

GUEST July 11, 2012, 11:10 PM EST.
I am continually left wondering why none of the other characters ever asks what happened to Lucy in her past to make her the way she is. Mike acts as if she is that way on purpose, to ruin his life, and everyone else either acts like she’s right, or she’s being selfish and making bad choices, no one ever asks WHY she reacts the way she does to things, why she treated Mike that way, why she needs someone always around so much, why she gets hurt so easily… Love her, hate her, blame her, or follow her lead, no one ever bothers to find out why she is the way she is..
Mary July 11, 2012, 11:26 PM EST.
-Gibs slaps Mike- Shut up and just be ready to work things out you big grump, it isn’t about who is the bad guy and who is not. nalem July 11, 2012, 11:42 PM EST.
It was directed at both of you, not just you. ^-^;
So I was addressing both comments with one comment, and therefore I said some things you had mentioned, but that the other person hadn’t.
as to your new comment…..
This is what I said. I agree. If Lucy abused Mike, Mike also abused Lucy, and visa versa. but Lucy has matured, and genuinely just wants to see him happy, even if it’s without her. So now it’s Mike’s turn to mature. ^-^; I don’t think he’s incapable of it, or that he deserves to rot in hell. which is why I mentioned that I think neither is better than the other.
My point wasn’t that she should hold on to it…
I was just explaining WHY she was so scared. Because the other person ( I forgot their UN ) was acting like all that happened was Lucy having a little trouble making friends as a kid.
I was explaining that, while that did play a tiny part, the majority of her trauma is actually due to the portion where she was used as a replacement.
People act like she had no reason to reject his kiss. I was merely pointing out that that isn’t true, and explaining why she acted the way she did. ^-^;
I mean, I’m sorry, but yeah, if a guy sees another girl every time he looks at me, and then he tries to kiss me, I’m gonna stop him. Because I’m /not/ that girl, and he shouldn’t be kissing me with the mindset that I am her. It’s got nothing to do with grudges—- kissing the wrong girl is kissing the wrong girl. If things were in reverse, I think Mike would have stopped Lucy, and I’d have been entirely fine with that. Because if he thinks she’s seeing another guy, and trying to kiss that guy, and not him, then he shouldn’t want her to kiss him. and the fact that he has feelings for her would only make it worse. I’d feel bad for him and I’d completely understand why he stopped her.
I’d also completely understand the confusion and uncertainty of who she was actually seeing at this point when she looked at his face.
and I’d understand why he was reluctant to get his hopes up when he knew that he was second best and that Mr.First-Choice could come back at any moment and take her away forever.
Also, I’m not sure “she held a grudge against him…..” is really the right term…..
forgiving does not remove the trauma inflicted and magically undo all the damage. ^-^; You can forgive someone with all your heart for accidentally killing your family member—- but they’re still going to be dead, you’re still going to feel the horrible pain of the loss, and it’s still going to be a really rough, long ride of healing. ( I know that’s a much more extreme example. I’m not saying that Mike killed Lucy or that Lucy killed Mike. Please don’t make me out as one of those. >.<; )
The pain and fears remain, and while you can both agree to forgive, sometimes the damage just can’t be undone.
I would completely understand if, regardless of the forgiveness, they just weren’t able to be like they used to be.
I don’t think they should try to force the frinedship. but I do wish they’d clear the air and move on..
And also, let’s face it, they were never good at making use of clear communication….
They tried a few times, but when Mike wanted to talk, Lucy was being scared, and when Lucy wanted to talk, Mike was being angry/frustrated/whatever, and they just never had very good timing.
They just never managed to get their feelings across to each other clearly enough……
headdesk July 11, 2012, 11:57 PM EST.
I’m surprised at Mike. I get how he’s tired of Lucy’s **** (whether I think he’s currently blowing it out of proportion or not is irrelevant), I get how he’s sick of his friends expecting him to be a perfect saint and happily put up with anything at all forever, but I did not expect him to pull his victimized routine on Sandy. Isn’t she supposed to be the one good thing in his life these days?
42 July 12, 2012, 12:03 AM EST.
Wow this has the highest comment out off them all.
Srry for being off topic.
mikedawn July 12, 2012, 12:05 AM EST.
I see why Mike feels like people are ganging up on him, because the girls /DID/ gang up on him…..
But I also think it’s important to point out that Lucy never ASKED them to.
she seemed rather dismayed by it…..
I’m not sure if Mike noticed that or not…. I’m sure he was a bit overwhelmed by all the crazy people. >.<; ( I don’t blame him, the friends really did get out of hand, especially the girls. )
But we can certainly acknowledge it….. ^-^;
I’m not sure if you were saying she encouraged it or not….. I don’t mean to assume that you were.
But for those who may not remember or may not have read it,
I just wanted to put it out there. >.<
gyoh, last thing….
I can’t remember who said it, but I really don’t think Lucy was trying to make herself look like a victim.
She said that Mike had been angry lately, but that that wasn’t him, it was her selfishness. ( or rather what her selfishness had done to him. )
I don’t think she was trying to get “points”…..
I think she actually meant it…..
At any rate, we can’t assume it was fake seeing as she’s never done it before.
I agree that we need to give Mike a chance, because I’m sure he’ll have his own realizations soon…..
but it’s just as equally bad to try to twist Lucy into a heartless witch.
headdesk July 12, 2012, 12:14 AM EST.
Oh, Sandy; your kindness may very well be your downfall. But who cares! Mike is actually going to talk to Lucy voluntarily! Only good could come from that, right?!
Saiyza July 12, 2012, 12:19 AM EST.
THAT VIDEO was PRETTY DA N HILARIOUS. In other news, I’m glad that Mike calmed down fairly quickly. And though Sandy’s “I think she understands now” comment hit me kind of weird, her reasoning is sound, and full of affection for her bf. ^-^ But I do not recommend that he go talk it out with Lucy. Let bygones be bygones, sleeping dogs lie, and burned bridges…not forced back into existence? Anyway, I can’t wait to see where the rest of this chapter goes~!
TIME TO WATCH THAT VIDEO AGAIN, IT’S GOING IN MY BOOKMRKS (Though with great embarrassment I apologize for some of my fellow candies [stealing that name for us fans])

Alright. It’s official. I love Sandy and hate angst-d**che Mike. Yep. Sandy should move on and find someone else who’s not a total jerk. Both Sandy and Lucy deserve someone better. Not that scarf-wearing korat who doesn’t have the capability to feel compassion or pity or whatever.
Anyways. Love the story so far. Most of the previous Sandy haters, such as myself, are starting to like the girl, and now we see how Mike’s suffering from permanent PMS. The guy’s a total loser, I can’t believe I, and many other characters, used to like him.

O one other thing………..Damit Taeshi! Y y Y y , YYYYYYYYYYYY am i starting to like Sandy!!!!!! Here’s y: she’s not acting like a ditzs any more! If that was your intent to prove people judge people they don’t even know then BRAVO! I couldn’t stand her and here she is mature, rashional, sweet, and succsessful! Grrr. I liked dislikeing her but now she’s creeping into my like bar. I also feel mike is doomed to be the designated douche no matter what he does. Also if he makes up with lucy and lucy hits him again i give him permishion to hit her back. U should never hit a women!!!! Untill the 5th time she’s smashed your face in He may hit her in the end….and he’ll regret it…………..because it wasn’t as hard as he coulda hit her man lol Just Duke it out is all i’m saying, or get laid mike because your sexual frustraition levels r so friggin high

Bashing on Mike on the comments has been quite plentiful recently. Yet, i kind of agree with his point of view, and yes, with many of his actions, somewhat. Showing his angst to Sandy, though, was a bad move.
Yes, Mike. Once again, you’re being made the bad guy. And it’ll be damn annoying to change that. Good luck.

If the poor boy does not learn a lesson of brightness from Sandy he’s going to become a villain!! Maybe Kamina-Paulo will become the hero!
Cavara July 12, 2012, 4:53 AM EST.
Yes Mike… But only because you keep ignoring what’s happening around you. If you just stop seeing your world for just a moment and listen to those around you, you would of known long ago that Lucy always supported your relationship with Sandy and that Sandy never wanted you to end your friendship with Lucy…

Headdesk u are the only one besides me who saw that. I was vaugh at explaining, but u went to full detail.
mikedawn July 12, 2012, 5:55 AM EST.
This is one of the few things that’ll get me worked up for no reason, or really at all anymore. So emotional. So beautiful. Kudos Taeshi, well done. You should be proud. This comic is so big that it has its own character hate and support groups lol. In my opinion you are the only one who has been able to pull off the genre and not only get by, but make it deep and emotional and engaging after all this time. I have loved to see the characters evolve and look forward to future development. Congratulations on a success in progress.
P.S. We all love the new art, the comic, and vicariously you.
kjiu0 July 12, 2012, 6:36 AM EST.
I kept anticipating a whole “I’m so sorry Lucy!” Moment. Good old Mike. Ya made me smile today. Now everyone probably hates you in the comic, no matter how much you liked them before! LOL! Great page Taeshi! Made my day!! Now I can call Mike jerkface too without feeling mean. Btw, I’m not being sarcastic at all. I’m the bad guy once again, huh? <- said with this face. SOOOO GOOD!
Masonery July 12, 2012, 6:50 AM EST.
This is very telling.
Mike does not give one **** how he has made his childhood friend feel.
He only cares about himself and his standing as ‘the bad guy.’
What an absolute failure as a ‘human’ being.

Wow, I am just impressed by just how much hate I can see for Mike at this point. This really says volumes of good things about the storyline when it can strike up this much of an emotional response from the fans.
Oh and yeah before I forget yeah Mike continues to dabble deeper into the levels of douchery he has obtained, keep failing on Mike!
Chair leg July 12, 2012, 8:49 AM EST.
You don’t say Mike.
Jack July 12, 2012, 9:35 AM EST.
I know how he feels, I was in a similar situation, except I had gotten slapped for no reason and I was going to do some damage to the girl who slapped me. In the end, I ended up looking like the *******. So yeah, I know how he feels.
Blackshadow July 12, 2012, 10:43 AM EST.
Poor Mike. The fact is, he might have been overreacting, but it was overreacting about the truth.
Like this; what was supposed to be a nice time with his girlfriend that he’s been waiting forever to see, is now all about Lucy, thanks to Lucy. I’d get even more upset with Lucy than Mike is being!
Lucy rejected Mike. Mike rejected Lucy. That’s it, why can’t she just butt out of his relationship that she only wanted to be in when he started wanting other people? It’s jealous and selfish and also too late.

dont go there mike u will f everything over with sandy by turnin on her to……….
eagle eye July 12, 2012, 11:19 AM EST.
It wouldn’t have been about Lucy if Mike didn’t ask Sandy about how she knew he was feeling down. Not trying to place blame, but if Mike had just accepted it and enjoyed the fact he was being hugged and enjoying time with Sandy, and just been like “Oh she heard I was feeling down but I’m not down anymore, I’m happy being with her! I’m glad to know she cares about my well being and how I am feeling but she shouldn’t have to worry about me.” Lucy wouldn’t have been brought up. Instead Mike immediately got pessimistic and asked who told her. He may have asked politely enough but his face said that something was nagging in his brain and annoying him.
He probably had an idea who it was that told Sandy because of the fact when he was screaming at Lucy he told her that she was the only reason he has been down. That he is only like that around her.
What I find interesting about that is the fact his sister pointed out that when he isn’t talking to Sandy he acts upset. Others at school have obviously noticed a change in his behavior, and Lucy hasn’t even really been around him. She shares classes with him, that she can’t help, but she has pretty much avoided Mike since he rejected her because she was jealous of him always talking about Sandy. She didn’t like that he was happy about Sandy, but she didn’t want to do anything negative about it either because she knows he loves Sandy. Mike has overreacted to pretty much anything that involves Lucy. He’s twisted his memories about pretty much everything to suit his need of hating her, he most likely feels he has to hate her because of the fact she could replace Sandy for him.
It’s not Lucy’s fault for trying to make Mike happy. There was a chance for her to do some pretty horrible stuff to their relationship, but she didn’t. She pretty much asked Sandy to make him happy and apologizing for being selfish and making him sad and angry like she did. Is she there forcing them to have this conversation? No. Did Lucy tell Sandy to tell Mike what she said? No. Did she say anything to imply even in the slightest that she wanted Sandy to talk about her? No. Lucy sent a text to apologize, she didn’t force herself into their relationship nor did she try to.
Lucy did not try to make Mike out to be the bad guy, she said “I’ve been the horrible one and I’m sorry.”
Mike is the one bringing it up and making it into a big issue by acting the way he has. If he just stayed calm and thought that maybe someone else told her he might be feeling a bit down, or even just been happy that his girlfriend cares so much about him that she wants to make sure no matter what she can make him happy, he would be happily enjoying his time with her.
I’m not hating or taking one persons side over the other, but in this case Mike is the one who is creating the problem, because he is becoming slightly obsessed with his whole “I Hate Lucy” issues…
GracefulSerenity July 12, 2012, 11:32 AM EST.
call me crazy, but im kind of on mikes side,
i mean he’s done some unessisary stuff, but jeez, do you see what hes been through.
i usually wont vouch for charecters like this but ive been in his situatoin before. love is a tough situation.
i think whats bothering you is that hes becoming fairly realistic, more realistic than you guys are youst to…

as for pualo, your doing a good job getting your act together. keep it up, im not going to give up on you either,

michael July 12, 2012, 11:49 AM EST.
…. yes mike. your the bad guy, pull a deadpool and read your damn comments. you’ve BEEN the bad guy for months. >.
KitsuneHonor July 12, 2012, 12:28 PM EST.
Sandy, you’re such a sweetheart. <3 And as for Mike?
Well…you seem kind of bitchy. Now, I’m not gonna fault you so bad since you’re a teenager and teenagers usually are emotional, but don’t ruin your visit with Sandy. :c You haven’t seen her in years.
And Taeshi, thank you for the page. <3 Its beautiful. How do you do your watercolors so well? I’m jealous!
JakeStartledTheWitch July 12, 2012, 2:26 PM EST.
He just needs to learn a little humility…and to just learn how to deal with difficult situations (like this one). It can only be learned with experience. He’s immature and a jerk now but deep down I really do think he wants to be a good person. He is just way too wound up and blinded right now to feel that way. I just hope Sandy can help guide him…I really do. If he really was an ***, he never would have tried to help Lucy so much before.
Right now it’s just silly highschool emotions. It’ll pass. These things always do. Likewise, Lucy is learning too. She may have been abusive too…but it seems like she just doesn’t know how to express her emotions. She will learn in time to deal with herself like Mike needs to learn how to deal with difficult situations.
Iris July 12, 2012, 2:33 PM EST.
so defensive, Mike…
srsly, what is your deal?
I really like the character Sandy turned out to be. Back when I was a Lucy/Mike shipper, I just thought she was a bitch to be an obsticale without bearly showing up in the comic(kinda amazing when you think about it) but now I can see that she is so worth it with her maturity and sweetness^^
I hated Mike for what he did to Lucy, that whole thing just left me crying(probably because I can relate to the feeling he left her with) but I still like Mike as a character. Just wish he would pull his head out of his arse already, this is starting to drag. B(
Twinkel13 July 12, 2012, 2:40 PM EST.
…Damn, Taeshi, you’re amazing. Being able to change people’s opinions of characters and generate such responses… God damn, that’s amazing. And I bet there’ll be another turn of emotions, where everyone forgives Mike.

I love all of Mike’s expressions on this page. You REALLY get the feeling he feels bad after seeing that text. I think the last panel is a cue for him to groan about the situation he’s in in the next page. Or at least I hope he does that instead of placing blame on someone else. Sandy’s really an awesome character btw.
whoa, why is everyone hating? Mike hasn’t done anything yet!
Justmyopinion July 12, 2012, 4:51 PM EST.
I think I’m slowly starting to like Mike. @w@ I had never been a fan of him, then the Lucy thing happened and I hated him. Now… I dunno, he’s starting to grow on me. But it’s really a love/hate thing. I think I’ll forever hate parts of him, and enjoy others. But that’s what makes me like him I guess? He’s human. (anthro cat, whatever lol) God, it’s so hard to explain how I feel about him.
Blue July 12, 2012, 5:53 PM EST.
@Nana Yeaaah..That’s all fine and dandy, but I’m still not giving him any breaks or cutting him any slack, he’s still a major ahole
kanashe July 12, 2012, 6:03 PM EST.
The sad thing is he will end up crawling back to Lucy if anything gos wrong like the F***ing scumbag he is. But Lucy being a sympathetic and empathetic person “cat” will eventually let him come and this is perhaps the saddest part.
AFKPUZ July 12, 2012, 7:23 PM EST.

kitty July 12, 2012, 9:32 PM EST.
Lucy just wanted to appologize, and Sandy just mentioned it.
They could have dismissed it and moved on.
At this point, they still could, and I hope that they do.
Lucy did not /beat/ Mike. she played roughly with him. and you know what? Sometimes he played roughly with her. Rough housing is not a big deal. =.=
She /shoved/ him when she was angry—— but Mike’s given Paulo a bloody nose at least once.
and it was still far from abusive, nor do I think she ever really WANTED to hurt him. a friend may punch me in the arm and storm off if I upset them, but that doesn’t mean they’d actually try to hurt me.
Further more, I know they’d have my back if I ever needed it.
Which brings me to the next obnoxious thing-
Lucy DID NOT CONSIDER MIKE TO BE A CRUTCH.
She cared about HIM, as her BESTFRIEND.
People who use other people as crutches do not unneededly risk their own lives in order to save what they view as nothing more than a crutch.
Further more, if they lose that crutch, they will move to the next crutch as soon as they’re given an opportunity.
Remember that part where Paulo gave Lucy an opportunity to make him her new crutch, and she didn’t take it, because she cared about him and knew that she wasn’t stable right now?
…. People who use other people as crutches DON’T DO THAT.
with that out of the way….
Let me say this:
I don’t think Mike deserves the irrational rage.
He is not a horrible soul-less monster that deserves to rot in hell.
but making Lucy out to be the bad one isn’t okay either, much less making her a witch.
They both contributed to the mishap, and neither is better than the other. ( I’m getting so sick of typing this. x.x )
I wish I could find the comment, but it’s lost now. >.<
Wherever it is, the basic form of it was that the difference between the two is that Lucy has now had realizations, matured, owned up to it, and genuinely just wants to see him happy, even if it means her being entirely out of the picture.
Mike has realized that their are some issues, but he hasn’t realized much else yet. That’s okay. A lot of damage was done to both sides, and both sides are going to take time. They have a lot to work out with themselves individually, and it’s going to be really confusing and difficult. But there’s no need for playing the blame game.
It was just an avalanche of misunderstandings.
Lucy was always second best. Originally, Mike was only settling for her because he couldn’t have Sandy… Lucy had serious and deep feelings for him. Sandy was bound to come back sooner or later, and Lucy new that getting her hopes up was just begging for the most painful thing she can imagine. ( especially since she’s already lost him twice. ) OFCOURSE she was reluctant to get attached to him ( and lose him a THIRD time ), and OFCOURSE she was reluctant to hope that he might really be seeing her now when he looked at her, and not just Sandy.
I think any-one would.
She made her feelings for Mike obvious to him multiple times…. but the majority of the time, she tried to be less obvious about it…..
Some people need specific kinds of affection, and I guess Mike’s one of them. That’s okay too. ^-^;
Mike needed affection displays to be gone about in another way…. IE he needed her to be more straight-forward and loving at times, but rarely received it… and he didn’t like some of the things she did—- but Lucy wasn’t aware of this, she thought he knew how she felt and udnerstood and was happy with it. She thought that they had a great and happy, perfect friendship, and all she wanted was to be able to be around him and spend time with him, so she thought things were good between them.
The two never really got to talk to each other clearly. If Mike was willing to, Lucy was too scared—- and if Lucy was willing to, Mike was too frustrated/confused/angry.
This wasn’t any-one’s fault, their timing was just never in sync…. It happens…
headdesk July 12, 2012, 9:34 PM EST.
actually considering the all the crap his friends gave him just because he didn’t love her its no real surprise he’s going about it this way… I mean they did make him the bad guy and came after him yelling.
kytan July 12, 2012, 9:46 PM EST.
Oh right, that.
I see why he interpreted Sandy’s comment that way….
and I suspect that all the friends trying to force Lucy and him together partially caused his extreme and bizarre paranoia that everyone is against him….
It probably also accounts for the fact that he thinks she’s conspiring against him.
But I don’t think it’s fair for people to blame that on Lucy, seeing as she didn’t ask them to do that, and seemed rather upset and frustrated by their actions herself.
I suspect Mike might not have noticed that Lucy had nothing to do with their actions, on account of the fact that he was being swarmed to death. ^-^;
But since we know she didn’t ask for it, it’s not fair for /us/ to blame her for it.
headdesk July 12, 2012, 9:56 PM EST.
