[The background is dark and gloomy.]
*Mike looks upset, tears in his eyes.*
Mike: This is some kind of prank, right?
Sandy: No..
Mike: Please!

*Sandy tearfully looks away from Mike.*
Sandy: I’m sorry, Maishul.. he already took the offer..
Mike: But.. but..

Sandy: Daddy’s promotion means we HAVE to move. Mommy already picked a new school for me..
Mike: You’ll be so far away..

*Mike clenches a fist to his chest.*
Mike: I’ll write to you!!
Sandy: I will too! I’ll write every day!

*Sandy smiles through her tears.*
Sandy: I’ll write you the biggest, bestest letter as soon as I get there, okay?

*Mike and Sandy hold hands, gazing into each other’s eyes.*
Sandy: Maishul, I love you.. we’ll work it out..
Mike: I.. love you too..

*Mike and Sandy let go of each other’s hands. Sandy walks away, leaving Mike behind.*
Mike (narrating): And before too long.. she was gone from my life. I haven’t seen her since third grade..

*Back in the current moment, a saddened Lily looks up at Mike.*
Lily: But she did send you letters?
Mike: Yeah.. and I always wrote her back..

*Mike holds Sandy’s letter.*
Mike: I looked forward to checking the mail every afternoon.. they were almost weekly, at first!

Mike (narrating): But you know how life is.. We became so busy with our own stuff that we started to slip. But I still loved hearing about her new life in Rickter..
*A brief flashback shows young Mike as he excitedly checks his mailbox.*

Lily: And what was Lucy up to while this was happening?
*In the present, Mike sits with his head lowered.*
Mike: Oh, Lily.. that year must have been so hard for her..

Mike (narrating): She’s always been so cautious of everyone else .. but she clung to me for company. I mean, I can see through all the competitive stuff..
*Another flashback shows Lucy as she prepares to throw a ball at Mike with all of her strength.*
Lucy: Jerk face!!
*Mike leans to the side, not particularly engaged.*
Mike: ?

Mike (narrating): But Sandy took all my attention and I just left her to rot.
*Lucy, lowering the ball, looks bewildered as Mike and Sandy pass in the foreground.*

Mike (narrating): Sandy never excluded her from anything! But Lucy’s heart just wasn’t in it when Sandy was around.
Sandy: Let’s play tag!
Mike: I’m it!
*Lucy looks totally uninterested.*
Lucy: Okay.

Mike (narrating): It got to the point that most of the time, Lucy wouldn’t bother with us.
Mike: Got you!
Sandy: Now you!
Mike: Hahaha!
*Lucy walks away, looking wary.*
Lucy: I’ll let you two play alone.

[The flashback ends.]
Lily: So you spent a whole year basically ignoring her?
*Mike lowers his head.*
Mike: Yeah..

*Lily gives a smug grin.*
Lily: Given my introduction to you two, I never would have guessed that.

*Mike blushes.*
Lily: You’re too easy to embarrass.
Mike: …

Author commentary

Veronica: This page was significantly reworked, back in the day! Before it was published to the site.

Originally it was meant to be about eight pages long, but Souppy really hated the ending and urged me to redo it. This current page takes elements from the original page (They both start out EXACTLY the same).. but completely new pages were added afterwards. The ones that were scrapped were actually used to make the next page! I hope this makes sense, the point is just that the tail-end of this chapter went through a lot of rewriting because I was still trying to figure out if Sandy was going to be a continual problem in this series, or if she’s just gonna be a bit of background info.

In other news Lily stop being such a blatant MikexLucy shipper!
