I am glad not everyone jumped on the bandwagon of Abby’s mom being in the ground. I hope to Ammy that the gravestone says “Abraham DoucheKnuckle Sr.” instead of “Charlotte Aluras.” (Last names are made up, btw.)

Dang, I thought Abbey had really lost it there for a second. Although at least he may eventually have some closesure that his mom is in a better place. Sadly, if anyone were to ever make a remark about his mom he would probably rip them apart or curl up in a corner for days. Also, I’ve got a bad feeling that Molly will simply keep making presents to cope and Abbey will unleash a bunch of anger on her.

Oh no… Poor Abbey. This is the worst news place they could have stopped for his psyche.

So, she did die……… I was hoping she was alive, but I guess not. Poor Abbey, trying to reject what happened. I wonder if she died in that incident, or if she committed suicide…. I mean, Sr. looked so sure he killed her and ran away, but one would also panic (depending on the individual) and leave/run away when the victim is unconscious, right? I kind of get the feeling that the lamp in the head is what killed her, because I don’t think she really had a reason to kill herself….. aside from realizing her husband cheated on her, but that really doesn’t seem like enough. Regardless, women from abused households do die, that much is clear….. just like this page is showing that Abbey’s mom is probably dead (I’ll stay in denial and believe that this is an agreed meeting place, for Sr’s grave or something. until the next update enforces the fact that she’s as dead …… I REALLY HATE ABBEY SR. AND I HOPE HE ENDS UP AS A HOBO IF HE’S RELEASED FROM PRISON). Poor Molly, It’ll break her heart when she finds out she’s dead. She’s totally going to keep making those gifts until she’s told her mom’s dead, isn’t she?

Oh Abbey. This character is the one I relate to the most, and for him to see this is just really really sad. As said above, I also thought his mother would be in a mental hospital, but this is just really sad. I have a feeling the next few panels are going to be really emotional…

Abbey, I know what it is like to go through a process like that. I knew how horrible it felt to have found out something that I would not expect - something I wished was not true. It is hard as far as I can say, and it will take a toll on you for a while before you can put your emotions back together. It does not mean that you cannot be happy, for life goes on. Trust me, after a while, you will start missing your mother less and less as time passes(even if you suddenly start crying a year later by remembering it) and eventually you will realize that she was there to see you care for her. For as long as that is embedded into her heart, that’s all that matters.

I had a great April Fools up to this moment… and frankly I feel dirty now.

I’m a little sad because i wanted molly and her brother to find their mothe in an hospital recovering, but in the end why did it had to be a sad end. And poor molly she always made presents for her mother so that one day she could meet her again and gave it to her. Why did it had to be this way?

I wonder. Was this an April fools prank, did Abbey somehow actually not know his mom was dead, or is this some weird misinterpretation of events and it is actually a pit stop. :?

Two possible outcomes for Sr. in mind should Abbey’s mom is as good as six feet under:
1. He’s already dead via death penalty

2. He’s still in jail

Now if SR. is still alive, Abbey would either make him regret what he’s done and scar him the same way he scarred him, or Abbey would snap and kill him with an unfortunate consequence (in which ‘unfortunate consequence’ is usually, and I might regret saying it, BCB’s specialty proven by Mike with Lucy).

Ouch…I kinda knew that his mother would be dead, but I didn’t think they were driving directly to the cemetery. That’s really friggin’ rough on him…

You know, my mother was also heavily abused in a lot of her previous relationships, and even in one or two of her previous marriages. She finally stopped taking it. I’ve never even met my biological father. As of now, she has the perfect guy for her, who is more of a father to me and my siblings than any of our previous fathers. I love them both to death.

I’m kinda ****** at the super depressing twist this comic has taken in the past few chapters. I mean, it’s ok to give the readers something to think about every now and then, but really? Out of all the bad endings you choose the most depressing of them all, why? Doesnt your characters have the right to be happy even when their creator is feeling bad?
This better be some kind of cliffhanger with another twist, but for now, I’m done with the Bitter part of Bittersweet candy bowl, if I wanted angst I’d pay attention to the news.

And don’t be offended (since I know people are gonna jump at me), since I have not said that “this comic is bad” or “this sucks” or anything else. If this is your sauce, amazing, enjoy it. It’s just not my sauce anymore.

I kinda had this coming, if I read correctly the message this post portrayed. I feel sad and at the same time terrible for not feeling a tear coming after this. It’s been a while, after all; anything could have happened in between. On that note, anything can happen until this is absolutely confirmed. Personally having outlived both my parents by Abbey’s age, I know how much it can hurt, but I can’t begin to imagine what it must be like to feel abandoned by your parents for so long only to find out that they’ve passed on. Now I’m all the more impatient to find out about his father. I really hope he’s lived a rough life and realized how awful he was, even if it’s too late. He’s got to have SOME redeeming quality, right? I hope.

Damn I was right in the worst way. I hope abbey can reach some form of closure from this. I don’t want this chapter to end on a sad note like the last one.

I’m personally shocked to see how many people didn’t expect this. This kind of melancholic twist was the most obvious but it brings out a question in me that I’m sure everyone else have asked already - is Abe Sr. the cause of death? Was bashing that vase in his wife’s head really enough to kill her? Did she take her own life? Or was she just unfortunate? Actually, maybe not so unfortunate… death could have been a sort of release from her husbands clutches, even if he’s imprisoned or executed.

His mother’s living conditions are less than ideal.

Okay, i had to reevaluate this scenario in my head over night because this is definitely a WTF page. If it is, in fact, that abbey’s mom is dead and apparently abbey is just learning this, what the “heck” did janet tell abbey at the party. Because he was shocked there too by something she said and apparently it wasn’t that his momma’s dead otherwise he wouldn’t be as stunned/shocked as he is here. So, two questions i’d like explained, what did janet tell abbey at the party and if abbey’s mom is dead why did janet become a b**** and not tell him before they arrived. I mean that’s pretty F-N big information, “hey i found your mom, oh by the way she’s dead.” yeah i’d file that under S*** i’d like to know before i plan a trip to “see” her.

also please tell me this is not some inception thing where he had a dream within an dream so he had a fake wake up to this scene. Don’t get me wrong i’m not saying it’s necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that cliched dream within a dream plot i getting overused ALOT and it just puts a bug up my a** when good writers resort to that plot now to throw a shocking element into a story.

I hate to sound cruel…but I knew that this would happen. It’s just, the way Janet’s face looked when she told him in the beginning, I knew that his mother had passed. This is sad, but I think it’s good that a story like this is written. Not everyone has a happy ending, and sometimes, they’re bittersweet. Like the title of the comic.

Remember when I predicted when Charlotte was dead, then I thought that she may be alive when Janet first offered to take Abbey to her?

Having just had a death in the (nuclear) family, it’s really a comic that hits close to home. Granted, there are some differences, you certainly can’t blame him for how he feels at this point, and just the idea behind it all. Because of the frozen ground, said family member won’t be buried until a little later this spring, but this certainly seems to help sum up that feeling of foreboding.

… Um I kinda expected this from the beinging, it was plainly shown at least to me…

I think I even saw a post or two before about others saying they figured she was dead, unless she’s cleaned up and runs the place but I still honestly expect her to be dead and for him and his sister to have to deal with the said fact.

Ya it may not be nice but it’s real life, real life can and will be mean, unfair, unjust, and down right nasty if not nightmarish.

There are good parts too life as well but when you were as troubled as Abby’s mother was a bottle of pills and or the sharp end of a razor could very well be your best friend and escape.

Let’s face it, it’s death and it happens and a lot of people probably wouldn’t consider it fair but F**K fair because we all know life isn’t fair and we all have to cope in what ever way we can and those who can’t generally end up dead. (I’ve seen it before with friends and family I know my post will probably offend some but it’s true. I’m not saying life is fully unfair and not fun there’s a lot of good in life but life is life and lets face it s**t happens.)

Not shocked at all by this. I’ve felt like his mother died from the start of this chapter a long while ago. Though I’ve always felt like they knew and just didn’t want to tell Molly and break her little heart. I never thought that even Abby didn’t know.

Seems kind of harsh he was brought all that way to be shown a grave with like, no prep. I know there are denial staged but it really looks like he has no clue.

Or maybe no, maybe it just suddenly hit him. I personally think this is a surprise factor for readers though, even those who claimed they seen it coming, they have a day or two to sit on it an think, but as somebody who reads page by page one after the other, they don’t stop to sit and think on a page and just read right ahead without figuring out possibilities.

I normally LOVE this comic, but this is a TERRIBLE way to break the news. “Oh hey, instead of just waiting till he gets home and telling him, I’m going to get his hopes up, drive him to the cemetery and let him put figure it out.

Because this comic tends to cause frequent suspense and twist things around to surprise people, I’m not going to jump to the conclusion that she is dead. I would sooner believe that her house is only reachable by walking through the graveyard.

I hate when I had reason in something, I really hoped she were alived, but whatever, I thought, Taeshi, you have the last word. I’m sad, for Abbey and little Molly, but this is the life… and the hazzards need to be confronted, and Abbey needs to know that he has no fault for what happened, we all have bad moments, and bad sides, but what afford, is the good moments, and the good memories. That will never be forget, the good moments, the good friends, and the family. For show the real life (ignoring that it has cats and dogs, without humans LoL) I love this comic and Taeshi you’re the best, because you make me love this long (and I hope never ending) story.

Wow. Tough.
I can sort of tell what’s going down in Abbey’s head. When my cousin and my Grandfather died, realizing their deaths came in a strict pattern:
1. Shock. It takes a while to register what you’ve just discovered.
2. Shock is quickly followed by denial. You look around, begging someone to come out and say “Just joshin’ ya man!”
3. Cold realization. You still don’t want to believe it, but it’s right there in front of you.
4. If you’re the right type of person, anger. Someone puts their hand on your shoulder, they say it’s ok, but you know it’s not. It’s definitely not ok.
5. Grief/Depression/Remorse. You think about all the lost opportunities. My grandfather survived service in the Navy during World War 2, two types of cancers, and falling off a boat into a harbor when he was in his 80’s. I never knew any of this until after his death. I didn’t even know his middle name.
My suspicions? Abbey is still on phase 2 (denial) and is going to skip straight to anger and totally flip out. When his anger subsides, he’s going to feel the guilt kick in of not confronting his father sooner, and acting like his father as well.

I didn’t check this in like, forever, and then I got on and read the past ten pages about. When I got to Monday’s page, my first thought was: Where- What- Why aren’t there more pages?! ABBEY. I NEED TO KNOW HOW YOU REACT.
