I think Mike is mostly ashamed because if you look closely in panel 17, you can see just how close Mike was to actually clawing Abbey.

Abbey’s very Daisy-empathic, but she’s so focused on Mike, she doesn’t notice. Looking for love, in all the wrong places. Ironic, yes?

If you look closely, Mike’s claws have been out since panel 8. He actually cut Abbey’s hand when he blocked that first punch; you can see the cuts in panel 9.
