they’re talking about home run guys amirite high fives abound we don’t have to make this joke ok
I love how Abby’s mom is just creeping up to them and as soon as she hears them say something suspicious she yells. Btw, first comment! !!
kami August 19, 2013, 1:00 PM EST.
Well… that was awkward. Now they’re going to have to explain what they’re talking about to Abbey’s mom. I think this will earn the award for the most awkward conversation ever.
This is gonna be fun.
Nikita August 19, 2013, 1:00 PM EST.
Omg, you two are the sweetest little nerds!
GhostCaptainBarbossa August 19, 2013, 1:01 PM EST.
Janet! I really wouldn’t have pinned her down for that kind of mom
Jango August 19, 2013, 1:01 PM EST.
You better be talking about baseball
Xylee August 19, 2013, 1:02 PM EST.
Epic Parents are epic
Arthorius August 19, 2013, 1:02 PM EST.
But baseball isn’t the only team sport. What about football? They’re going for the touchdown. And, afterwards, he’ll go for two.
Shiloh August 19, 2013, 1:02 PM EST.
They really should sort of quit while they’re ahead. And Daisy’s insistence on talking about that subject makes me wonder whether they even saw Abbey’s mom’s head peek around their door.
POETS August 19, 2013, 1:02 PM EST.
Lol I feel old because I feel the same his mom aka Janet feels
Amber August 19, 2013, 1:03 PM EST.
what the ****ing hell janet maybe some of us dont like baseball. maybe some of us like soccer
Whimsicott August 19, 2013, 1:03 PM EST.
Wow that first panel is just ****ing hilarious! Seems like Abbey is still uncomfortable with the idea and not that into it and is more doing it for the sake of daisy being cautious
Craftz August 19, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
Well whatever happens, let’s see if they can make a homerun.
Dudeler August 19, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
Well as long as its baseball…
Wafflesftw August 19, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
Lolol Janet’s face in the first panel. =n= Hilarious.
AcridRogue August 19, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
Abby, the correct response is “No! We’re discussing and trying to be properly educated on sex! If in the unforeseen future our hormones get the best of us we are at least protected from unwanted results!”
Silas August 19, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
YOU BETTER BE TALKING ABOUT BASEBALL!
Saphira August 19, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
This page made me look like a fool, loling at work. Too funny though!
Fenfir August 19, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
Guess a tiny little girl can make one paranoid as hell xD
OH THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT BASEBALL ALRIGHT ;D
They’re in 1st base so far
ResidentEddy August 19, 2013, 1:05 PM EST.
lets play a game of what are they talking about
chase August 19, 2013, 1:06 PM EST.
Huh. I was kinda hoping they would be able to explain a bit better so that she wouldn’t freak out on them. But then I remembered where I am.
And again with that ‘Just in case’ from Daisy. But we all know what it actually means…
Oceanus92 August 19, 2013, 1:06 PM EST.
Janet you could just, you know, TALK TO THEM. It’s not that hard. I’m kind of surprised she’s acting the way she is, she seemed like the type of parent to talk to Abbey or Molly and figure out what’s going on. She knows that Molly is young and misunderstands things so that when telling someone, it’s going either sound better or worse (usually worse) than it is.
Also why did she close the door if she thinks they’re having sex.
DannyAzazel August 19, 2013, 1:07 PM EST.
are we going to have a awkward baseball themed “the talk” in the next few pages.
You have to feel sorry for them two.
Chrisd765 August 19, 2013, 1:07 PM EST.
That was close. -_-
keep it up
Nice-Hero August 19, 2013, 1:07 PM EST.
That isn’t his mom! Why won’t you guys go back and reeeeeaaadddd!!!!!
lynnlynn August 19, 2013, 1:09 PM EST.
Why not change the subject or talk and find other things other than babies?
Inside … Before that account!
Nice-Hero August 19, 2013, 1:10 PM EST.
I’ve been saying that they shouldn’t and they keep on bringing it up. For crying out loud just forget about it and just stick with making out. This reminds me of the crazy teacher from middle school taught about sex and no matter how crazy or ridiculous she taught it I would have to agree on some points. It’s really not that important for a relationship (at least at this point).
Keyblade Dragon August 19, 2013, 1:11 PM EST.
I am laughing so hard at all of the expressions
Aprilkitty August 19, 2013, 1:15 PM EST.
It’s funny to Eddsworld!
I have an idea!
Make a show of your comics.
That is, in animation. eeeh?
Nice-Hero August 19, 2013, 1:16 PM EST.
Janet’s eye looked like it was going to pop through the door.
BlueBerry August 19, 2013, 1:16 PM EST.
“”I’ve been saying that they shouldn’t and they keep on bringing it up. For crying out loud just forget about it and just stick with making out.””
Sounds like you’ve never heard of hormones, nor sex drive for that matter.
If they’re both game, sexy time IS gonna happen, so it might as well happen in a controlled fashion where babby isn’t form.
Abstinence is the absolute worst solution, since you’re downright inhibiting something natural, instead of bending it to human will.
A foster mother is still a mother.
VR August 19, 2013, 1:20 PM EST.
It’s pretty much never “just in case”. Daisy is only suggesting it because it’s definitely something she wants to do and the only thing stopping her is the fear of pregnancy. Once she feels more secure in that regard they’re gonna get all kinds of busy. You know, probably.
Unit August 19, 2013, 1:20 PM EST.
I laughed soo hard, are they going to get…condoms? Man, this is going to be the best chapter in volume there, isn’t it?
Meow August 19, 2013, 1:21 PM EST.
I didnt think Janet would be like that :v
Laufente August 19, 2013, 1:26 PM EST.
Yxela007 August 19, 2013, 1:33 PM EST.
i assume baseball was mentioned because of the constant metaphors people use with it to relate to sex… first base, second base, all that crap.
which is funny, because american football is the one with the guys shoving their faces in each others’ asses, grabbing and groping each other, rubbing up against each other, and pounding each other… pounding INTO each other.
i can’t really tell what happened here… is janet slipping out of the room after an off-screen conversation with them, or is she poking her head in and then closing the door while abbey and daisy are still recovering from molly overhearing their conversation?
Thanatos August 19, 2013, 1:34 PM EST.
Wow, Janet, way to parent.
At least they are BOTHERING to be sensible - they are both mature and intelligent, and they are trying to take precautions. As awkward as it is, they are discussing sex and establishing boundaries, which is really grown up and healthy of them.
You could TALK TO THEM. That way, they know if they do have a problem they can come to you, not be terrified of you yelling at them.
I like Janet but he does some questionable things sometimes like singing loudly in the car on th way to Abbeys mums grave and now being a sudden mcyellyrage
Ramona August 19, 2013, 1:37 PM EST.
That phrase is going to drive him nuts sooner or later.
….just in case….
Follarch August 19, 2013, 1:43 PM EST.
…and we all make jokes about baseball…
Mewtallica August 19, 2013, 2:08 PM EST.
And dont forget,
Its important that at least one Team wears gloves while playing Baseball!
LordRamirezvonBuchteln August 19, 2013, 2:11 PM EST.
Omg, I’m having horrible though about how they’ll keep working on “baseball”. I feel so bad, but still…. hee….
Subaru August 19, 2013, 2:12 PM EST.
Mom’s , the moment they suspect something they hear EVERYTHING!
Bluesky August 19, 2013, 2:30 PM EST.
Yes…they’re gonna be talking about baseball.
Gonna be talkin bout rounding them bases!
Chocothunda August 19, 2013, 2:37 PM EST.
Janet’s behavior is really weirding me out. Though, I guess as a new-ish parent, still, it’s to be expected that she’d go all psycho-over-protective at the first mention of one of her kids growing up. That, and fifteen IS pretty young to be having sex. I hope she can at least have a conversation with Abby after Daisy leaves. She’s been such a good parent so far, it’d be a shame for Abby to be afraid to go to her or Kevin if he needed to.
That said, I’m still hoping that Abby and Daisy will wait a while before actually having sex. Having the discussion now and being prepared is awesome and all, but they’re fifteen. There are so much better things for them to focus on than a relationship that, statistically, will end eventually, probably with horrible drama to accompany.
Eemia August 19, 2013, 2:53 PM EST.
to me that face of Janet’s and those faces of Abby and Daisy just scream awkward no sex talk between the three or at least a “I hope you’re not talking about what I think you’re talking a bout and if you are talking about it then you need to stop talking about it” talk. And the fact that she stayed behind to listen for a moment just confirms it for me…those kinds of talks are always embarrassingly awkward especially in front of your girl/boy friend.
Luna August 19, 2013, 3:02 PM EST.

Am I the only who feels like she did give them a stern talking and this page starts with her on her way out the room?
Ziur August 19, 2013, 3:56 PM EST.
The hell is up with all these conservative viewpoints?
They’re both in highschool, horny, and know each other’s boundaries.
That means it’s as good as it’s gonna get, so give them some preventive options to avoid teen pregnancy and then let them literally **** their brains out.
Might as well burn the urges away, instead of trying to keep a lid shut on a boiling kettle.
It’s gonna be a mess either way, might as well be a controlled mess.
Bound August 19, 2013, 3:58 PM EST.
If Janet is this overprotective about Abbey fooling around, I can’t imagine Molly ever dating in high school…
Kent August 19, 2013, 4:19 PM EST.
Abbey and Daisy are probably talking about something really far from having sex.
Quill August 19, 2013, 4:52 PM EST.

I bet the first thing that came to mind to Daisy was, “Oh ****”.
Actually, her face looks more like, “HEY! THAT IS ****ING RUDE! WE ARE TRYING TO SEE WHAT BRAND MAY BE THE BEST!”
best comic ever.

Yeah… baseball, sure is about baseball :B
eagle August 19, 2013, 6:32 PM EST.
Really, Abbey is really responsible, he is pretty old, and his Mom isn’t even his real mom. His life is infested with sadness and misfortune, and no one appreciates him for the wonderful person he tries to be except for Daisy. Jesus Christ, Janet! Let your kid have a bit of privacy, if not a bit of fun!
I guess all parents get worried, but Abbey really would not do anything stupid, and I think Jan knows that Daisy would abort the baby herself if that actually happened. : /
Hope those two get past these safe boundaries.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, last panel, both of them look furious. Goodbye, Janet. Say hi to Lucy in the ER for me.
Maosnery August 19, 2013, 6:47 PM EST.
I never understood the conservative american/western view that the best solution to young adults being sexual beings was to forbid talking about it, suggest abstinence - which we statistically are aware does not work - and if it happens anyway, ban it from the family home.
Yes, I think it’s best if my kids are uninformed in safe sexual practices. I also would prefer if they were not given a suitable education and environment to process new bodily functions and feelings. I’d love for them to not have me to talk to, after-all it would be too awkward a conversation to have. Ideally, if they go behind my back as they are mathematically inclined to, then I’d like them to be somewhere unsafe if possible, where they may be slapped with a public indecency charge. Additionally, after all this ********, we should make abortion illegal because we need to punish teenagers for not denying strong and overwhelming instincts that grown men and women struggle with.
Mm, yes. These are my values.
But in all seriousness, Janet is making a severely bad call here. Whilst I was rather unimpressed with her racing upstairs following Molly’s brief conversation with her, it could be understandable as, “Maybe right now means right exactly this second and I need to make sure my son is educated and won’t do something he or his sweet girlfriend would regret in the long-run.”
Meaning, I assumed she went upstairs to interrupt potentially unprotected sexy times, with condoms and much talking about emotional impact. If sexy times were not in progress, it would then follow that she might as well have that talk given the scare she has had. Her surprise and immediate reaction would then further be explained as she’s never really seen Abbey as a maturing young man, and as such has not talked with him about his health, and safety. That’s not abnormal.
However, Janet has gone upstairs to ensure Abbey and Daisy are not in fact doing the naughty. She has glared at them in warning, letting them know this is 100% not going to be discussed. Then, when Daisy begins the conversation again, and the two of them are discussing purchasing prophylactics ‘just in case’ she shuts them down.
Heaven forbid they purchase protection against disease and unwanted pregnancies. God forbid they talk to her about perfectly natural feelings, or any concerns - or heck - anything that may or may not go wrong.
So, yes, I think this is terrible, terrible parenting.
Some european countries that permit sleepovers with SO from a young age also note much lower statistics in teenage pregnancy, abortion, and teenagers wait a longer period of time before having sex. Win-win for everybody?
Zero Dollars + Two cent August 19, 2013, 6:54 PM EST.
I love abbeys adopted mom, she’s hilarious xD. I don’t see her as being super strict or anything, merely worried about her son and being a protective mommy (in a hilarious way).
Evan August 19, 2013, 6:56 PM EST.
HongKat August 19, 2013, 6:57 PM EST.
Zero Dollars + Two cent: What is a sleepover with SO? also pretty much agree with your view on sexuality in our society and how silly people are about it.
Person of Interest August 19, 2013, 7:01 PM EST.
I wonder how good Abbey is at pithing, which raises the better question: can daisy even catch?
Kindle_Kat August 19, 2013, 7:25 PM EST.
No mom I’m talking about safely giving my girlfriend the “D”.
Fluffy August 19, 2013, 7:59 PM EST.
Sheesh, take it easy there Daisy. I am genuinely curious where all of this is coming from. It is so out of character for her.
Besides, if you don’t have “them,” then you just don’t do “it.”
LostInPhilly89 August 19, 2013, 8:04 PM EST.
I’m going to assume we skipped over the whole Janet yelling at them and now she’s just hovering around the door.
And for all the nay sayers. I think it’s perfectly normal for parents to be protective of that kind of stuff. yeah high school, but also Sophmores in high school. They dont’ exactly always do what’s smartest for themselves, plus if you look at it age wise their barely 14-15 years? Fairly young to start being openly promiscuous (Paulo and his fun loving company excluded)
As for Daisy’s push for it, I think I get it. I think it’s based on her need for attention so she doesn’t feel outclassed by people like Lucy (as she’s clearly demonstrated in the past she is jealous of the attention people like Lucy and Sandy get). What better way to seal the deal for her but to get Abbey that much closer to her. Basically it all comes back to her self-image/confidence. As is the case with a lot of women with self-esteem issues (and i’m sure with men too but more with women), having sex is the only way to feel wanted.
BetaMonkey August 19, 2013, 8:46 PM EST.

Tyler Feilds. August 19, 2013, 9:29 PM EST.
Lol at non-conservative peeps. Obviously @Keyblade gets the importance here.
To some idiot above me, abstinence is a perfectly normal response to sexy time. It is difficult, not impossible, and it is not something that should be shamed by those with more experience. That response is why you have extra pressure on the few teens trying to stay that way. 15 is simply not a respectable age to start dealing with sex. When I have kids I will explain to them in full what sex can do to them physically and emotionally, before I give them a protection speech. When you’re not ready, sex comes with a lot of baggage.
And protection DOESN’T always work. If you don’t have a job, a mature partner, and a decent place of your own (“just in case”), don’t risk it. Period. You don’t know how you’ll feel about all the negative complications until you’re stuck making adult decisions about a STD, broken heart, or a baby.
I_Love_Lucy August 19, 2013, 10:30 PM EST.
Mmm, I don’t understand what happened in the first two panels. Did Janet came into the room, talked to them, and then left? or did she just peep through the door?
V August 19, 2013, 10:39 PM EST.
Trubeque August 19, 2013, 10:46 PM EST.
This would be my mom, even if I was just talking to a girl about normal stuff, not going anywhere near the subject of intercourse, and even if there was no possible chance of it happening.
Me Man August 19, 2013, 10:51 PM EST.
I am not a parent, hell I’m not even out of school yet and I know that that is not the way to help set up safe boundaries with your kid and their boyfriend/girlfriend. You talk to them about the benefits, a closer relationship, and the consequences, pregnancy, STDs and so forth, you tell them which brand of condoms is more effective, give them some tips on positions and techniques and all around general advise in the subject. Then give them an even bigger safety talk about it reinforceing the idea to wait a year or two more then tell then it is better to stick to just making out for awhile then move on to the next stage of intimacy. All the while answer any questions they have. Well almost any, but keep them informed so that they don’t do something stupid and someone gets pregnant.
All in all just keep them well informed on the subject and tell them where to get a good brand of condoms.
Also Abbey’s mom/step mom. Calm down woman they are not stupid and they are just setting up safe boundaries.

buchanen_neket August 20, 2013, 1:01 AM EST.
@Hawz YOU FORGOT AMAYA! WHY
To be honest, I think a sex talk would turn this chapter into something awkward and full of drama, so the best option really is to use some overprotective parent comic relief. It is not really intended in a serious way at the moment, I’m sure Abbey will get a talk later.
Alaystus August 20, 2013, 1:02 AM EST.
