The longer that one dwells in the past, the harder it is to see what’s going on in the present. Abbey needs to quit beating himself up over the past and start seeing what’s happening now. He’s got a girlfriend who understands him and is willing to help him, he’s going through counseling to help him get control over his aggressions, and now he’s even going to see his mother. But none of that will help if he keeps lingering in the past about how he was then rather than seeing what he could be in the future.

Well, I think this visit to see his mom will affect Abbey more than we thought.
Some of that underlying guilt has got to be eating at him, seeing as how readily it comes to mind and how bad the flashbacks get to him.

All in all, I’m just hoping Abbey can get some closure from this, so he can loosen up a bit, you know?

Wow. Every following page is a piece of Abbey’s past that’s slowly coming together. Still, I wonder how everyone would react to this. In fact, why not? He could definitely use some help from them in getting over all that. It’s probably not going to be easy, but nobody said it was going to be, nor that it would be best hidden from those who could assist him. Well, I suppose the first step in getting over something is facing it and accepting what has past. At least, that’s what I would like to believe in.
So hang in there, Abbey. One of these days, all that will be behind you. So will the irony of your fear of becoming your father, but you inadvertently do anyway.
