Sandy’s mom looks real wasted. She also strikes me as one of those people who pushes their kids to do stuff that they may not want to do in order to gain fame for themselves. Secondly, its not the mom’s hair, so why does she care? The sad thing is there are way too many people like that in the real world.
Every one knows parents can make things awkward but it seems like Sandy’s mom is not concerned about Sandy at all. Where could they really have to go? Its been like 5 minutes.
Then again, they are rich, and wealth and happiness can only coexist for so long.
On another note, I still wonder what the group’s reaction will be when they see his new, old scarf or whatever you wish to call it. i can imagine it will be a mix of, “Love Lucy NOW! Jerkface!” and “That’s adorable!”

Nooo! Poor things! They have barely had five minutes to see each other after years, and already Crudelia De Mon shows up and breaks the magic, right when all angst had been cleansed away!
Can this really be the kind of relationship that awaits Michael and Sandy in the future?
It would also seem that Sandy won’t be allowed to wear the ribbon and keep beeing a “matching couple” in the end!

Cavara July 23, 2012, 12:00 AM EST.

Comment ID #223419

I have a sinking suspicion that scarf won’t fix his attitude. And that disliking her mom is apt.

Hoheh July 23, 2012, 12:00 AM EST.

Comment ID #223420

I knew it! Sandy’s mom would come in and ruin it all. What I saw in that chapter where we briefly see Sandy, her mom seemed bossy and controlling. Man, will any of the relationships work out?!? Theory: Sandy will have to go against her mom if she wants anything to work out with Mike, eg. when she is older, leaving it all behind (the fashion bullcrap) and going back to her old life with her Maishul. I don’t think Sandy is happy with the way her life turned. All I hope is everybody ends up happy in some way.

@Nikita: I think that describe sandy’s mom perfectly. sandy is a model, is not allowed to see her boyfriend more than once in several years, and has already gone to some business meeting which i’m guessing she did because of her mom. of course i might be wrong.

Sandy’s mom creeped the hell out of me from the very start. It never ends well when someone you care about has a showbiz parent. They’re overbearing, manipulative and sometimes malicious in their ways. And I would bet anyone any kind of money that she is the reason Sandy and Daisy don’t talk anymore.

Crystal July 23, 2012, 12:07 AM EST.

Comment ID #223443

Wow, Sandy’s mother is such a snob and it doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out. Mad Lucy

I feel sorry for Sandy on this one; she was going have a moment with Mike until her mother showed up.

Nimbus26 July 23, 2012, 12:08 AM EST.

Comment ID #223445

Sandy’s mother strikes me as the sort to tell her daughter what she can and cannot have in her life. I know that’s an obvious ‘DUH’ but I mean, she’ll tell her who she can and can’t hang out with.

Like in fear of it messing up her occupation or image when she does her job. So let’s not be surprised when she and her mother gets in the car and the first thing she says is, ‘I don’t like that boy. I was expecting something else.’ Not saying that to be malicious towards Mike but yeah…

I wouldn’t be surprised.

Gahhh!!! The appearance of her mother totally ruined the cuteness! I’m still not a huge fan of Mike cause of what he did to our lovely Lucy, but I mean everyone deserves happiness. And I hope he doesn’t end up acting like a totally awful person to Lucy even though Sandra told him to be nice. Mehhhh I like how this comic keeps me guessing. The creator is great!! <3

Sandy’s mother doesn’t really look like she approves of her having a boyfriend. I can see she’s the type of parent from one of the previous chapters that she pushes Sandy to become very mature early and have a successful career like mother, like daughter kind of thing and doesn’t want Sandy to be distracted.

I’m very happy to say that Sandy has grown on me. (:
But guys, let’s not judge her mother yet. She’s just been introduced and we’re not sure of the circumstances. Sure, she could be a pushy mother who forces her daughter to do all of these things to make a name for herself. But maybe it’s because she’s never meant anything to anyone in her life. Look at the way she’s dressed and how her hair looks and take that into consideration as well. She could just be a bitch but we don’t know yet, so please stop jumping to conclusions.

Comment ID #223489

Not sure if I’d be correct, but I have a sneaking suspicion that lady isn’t Sandy’s mother. At least I hope not. She seems more like her agent. Wasn’t this whole shindig a modeling show?

Whoever she is, she seems like she’s trouble and probably is going to try and muscle her way between Sandy and Mike. Most likely she’ll use the whole “he’s holding you back” or “he’s no good for you” ploys, foreshadowed in the way she criticizes Sandy for the way she put up her hair for Mike.

Can’t wait to see some more delicious drama~

Sure, she knew they were dating but she doesn’t know who Mike is really or what he looks like until now. Sure, I suppose Sandy could have shown her pictures but does her mother look like someone that Sandy would share things like that with?

Then again, her mother doesn’t even look like she would even care to look if Sandy showed her. Meh, maybe I’m looking too into it.

Edit: Anyways, I don’t find MikexSandy any more healthy than MikexLucy…

Sure they’re all happy and together now but then they’ll get seperated, stuck to text each other, her work might make it hard for her to keep contact again and blah blah blah.

now, regarding the comic… figures, sandy’s obviously drunk/drug addict mother is going to strip away what little happiness her daughter has in the world.

i suppose we’ll get a chapter sometime in the future dedicated to sandy actually getting some character development and breaking free from her abusive mother?

Well what would ya know, her mother really is asian. Well, there’s still hope for Lucy x Mike, since Ms Tanaka here, might not like the idea of her daughter dating gaijin with watery eyes, who has smell of fish all over him.

Oi! That’s not nice! We don’t know much about her. Maybe she had some ****ed up life in poor fishing village in China (azn doesn’t always equal Japanese) and want her daughter to live like she couldn’t? Well, that doesn’t sound bitchy, right? Of course it may be that Sandy is providing for the whole family, since her father is either non existant, or abusive, or drunken *******, or all three in one package, and mother is to goddamn lazy to move her ***, and get a job herself, but this is yet to be seen. So far we’ve seen she’s puting her daughter under pressure, but that’s not always a bad thing.

Ok pal, you need to remember one, very important thing: no matter how gigantic bitch is mother of your girlfriend, it doesn’t change the fact you’re dating girlfriend, not the mother. Mike will have to grind his teeth, and wait for the time, they will be able to live together and leave Ms Tanaka behind them. Though seeing how he’s acting right now he’ll more likely:
2.think it’s Lucy’s fault
3.cry some more
4.make an emo scene in which he’ll despair, because Sandy parents don’t like him, and it’s not so perfect anymore
5.go to his mommy to tell about it
6.think it’s definetely Lucy’s fault.
And do nothing about, or doing something stupid. And I mean really stupid. Since taking David, and Abbey, and visiting ms Tanaka, and itnroduce her to a batman (ya know, a guy with a baseball bat) would at least be badass. Though Mike is more likely “Ooooooh PLS ACCEPT MEEEH” type. So whining at their apartment doorsep until poor old lady will surrender is more likely to happen.

Until the end of your comment I thought someone is impersonating you. I really don’t know why all you guys are thinking she’s drug addict. She’s just busy with being her daughter manager. It’s tiring job, which rarely means party hard like a rockstar.

Commander_Zero July 23, 2012, 4:34 AM EST.

Comment ID #223526

Seriously though, this is a turning point not because of the scarf, but because now that Mike has been told by OVERLORD SANDY (who doesn’t know he thinks of her that way, not her fault) that he was wrong, he must admit to himself that he was wrong.

And then he’s going to try to apologize.

What I find interesting is that there isn’t speculation on how he’s going to even reach her to talk to, or any question that she will instantly heal up the second he apologizes. Words were said there that cannot be unsaid and, even if they could, cannot be forgiven.

Ugh. Poor Sandy. I guess Mike is one of the ways Sandy can still have a piece of child hood left. Or even an ‘average’ teenager life.

It must suck to be one of those kids who are pressured by their parents all the time… I’m surprised her mom doesn’t mind her having a boyfriend.

I wonder if Sandy’s mom is making her daughter do things she wished she could have done… Living vicariously through Sandy? (Did I use that right?)

Going to have to agree with strider on this one.

However you put it she’s controlling her daughter’s life and molding Sandy into her into her own idea of “perfect” with no respect for what she wants to do or how that makes her be untrue to herself. You can tell, because if that was really what Sandy wanted in her heart of hearts, she wouldn’t even be annoyed, she wouldn’t be sad and tired in the first few pages of “To the Top.”

It’s the same reason that youth pageants even exist. Mothers like to live through their daughters, and that makes up for 99% of the people who go into pageants and become little models who always sit up straight and keep their hair perfectly brushed and their skin lotioned and their skirt perfectly flat and their stride precisely even and have a perfectly white smile and recite poetry and never say no and always eat their vegetables and never eat anything fattening or unhealthy and are expected to be absolutely in every way perfect.

No person should have that pressure on them. One can have the desire to be perfect in a certain area, their own desire, their own chosen area. I for example make very certain that every word I type or speak is perfectly formed and fits well with the paragraph or conversation. But it’s wrong to expect somebody to be perfect. It distorts a person into something they’re not. To be imperfect is to be human. A person who forces themselves to be perfect looks perfect at first glance, but when looking closer the only thing that I see when looking at such people…

… all I see are fakes….

It’s so… glossy? Sterile? “Perfectly” the same as other “perfect” people?

It’s wrong. It’s inhumane. It doesn’t matter the intention. Nobody should have to be perfect at everything. That’s too much pressure for one person.

It’s not as if I don’t think there should be no standards. I just think that the standard should be normal, that exceeding the standard should be all it takes to succeed. Idealist I am….

I don’t know. I guess I’m just saddened by the thought of such an existence. I pity Sandy beyond words for having to live with her mother’s dreams and not her own.

Sandy’s mother looks like she doesn’t take much in consideration this “boyfriend”, she probably figures this is something of none relevance, that will not last and that has no chance to disturb Sandy’s career.
Is it me or there’s a shadow of grudge in Sandy’s glance at her mother in the last panel? Michael looks just sad and worried for Sandy, but for the first time ever there’s the slightest sign of negative attitude in her.
This is still one of Taeshi’s trademarked End-Page-Expression-That-You-Cannot-Decypher- Until-Next-Page, but if it was true I would appreciate it. Until now Sandy has been just too perfect for me to like her. :/

Which once again proves she’s not a HUGE bitch, and most likely not a junkie, how some suggested. It remains to be seen if she’s a bitch at all.

Ok, so you’re pretty much saying teens should have right to decide for themselves, at least older teens, and parents taking away freedom for sake of living their life through daughters, and sons (rarely) is wrong. And I fully agree with that. BUT:
Parents who wish their children to have better life, are whole different story, and you didn’t adressed this one at all. We are not yet sure what her mother intentions are, though more likely you guys are right, and we have a classic model mom syndrome here, but we don’t know that for sure yet. All we know, she’s trying to make her daughter be best at everything. Of course it’s wrong, since as you said, no one should be forced to be perfect at everything since it’s to much presure, but parent should have some control. Of course it sound nice when some wisecrack says that teenagers are responsible, they can look out for themselves. But then we get mass actions like “yolo”, “swag” and few others that proves that straightening is sometimes required. Of course, you, me, few others will shake their heads and say: that’s stupid, I could decide for myself, when I was that age. Well yes, we could. But we =/= all the world teenager. Not every teenager is the same, and certainly not every teenager was like us. Some of them need some sort of guidance, and parent doesn’t wishing their kid living on their own under the bridge is certainly not a bitch.

It makes me sad the level of drama everyone has to go through. Sandy is such an angel, but her mom just seems really controlling and uncaring. I mean Sandy can’t even spend 5 minutes with her boyfriend. They don’t even get a date together. They talk for a couple minutes and her mom shows up to drag her away. It makes me sad.

Though Mike derserves a little rain on his parade, Sandy doesn’t derserve this.

Sandy’s mom isn’t being very nice. From all that I’ve seen of her,
she doesn’t seem to care about Sandy, much. Always hurrying along to the next job or school, or success in general. Sure, that’s something all parents want, but Sandy and Mike have barely been together for, what, 10 minutes?
After all these years, this is just sad.
Storyline-wise, though, I can see where this might be going.

i dislike how i see sandy,s mom she seems like the parent that only cares about making their child into what they want them to be be not asking or even caring what their child thinks or wants. i feel sad for sandy knowing that is probably the kind of mother she has.

i don't know July 23, 2012, 7:38 AM EST.

Comment ID #223547

Firstly… seriously, her mother is a junkie? You guys are just making that up, there are plenty of real reasons to dislike her.

That is true. A parent has a right to prevent a teenager from making bad choices. Many teens are inclined to get in trouble and make stupid decisions and, when possible, this should be prevented. A sign of a good parent is that they will sometimes say “No” and put their foot down.

Every time we see Sandy in person her mother nags her. “Hurry up.” “Show them what they want to see.” “Straighten your hair.” “Pay attention.” “We have to go.”

Perhaps we have not seen enough of her, and if she proves me wrong I will be more than happy. I’m always happy when one of my negative opinions are proven wrong. It means more skill and kindness and goodness in the world. But I have not yet seen a moment where Sandy’s mother hasn’t wanted something from her. At the very best she is a misguided person who believes success alone ensures happiness.

In short, the reason I did not address it is because I have seen no sign to point towards that being the case here. All I have seen from Sandy’s mother are demands, advice on how to fulfill those demands, and well-wishing/praise on her performance of fulfilling those demands.

Look, if you have time read the entire chapter again in the light of this. But if I have to list a specific page, look on the last panel on page 9, chapter 58, To the Top. She’s clearly frustrated because there’s no substance to her life, there’s only school, her friends, and modeling. She doesn’t seem excited about herself, she isn’t proud of herself, she feels somewhat helpless to enjoy herself. Only out of her mother’s reach does she at all give any sign that she doesn’t want to follow her mother’s unyielding regimen, and that’s so simple and small a treat as chocolate. She has little sense of self, and what self she does have is frustrated and defiant, yet resigned to the fact that her mother controls her life. Nearly every page she’s either speaking to her mother or doing what her mother wishes. On page 5 of that chapter, Taeshi herself says something about her career being mother driven.” In the last panel of the last page of the chapter… the heartbreaking moment where she only wants to please Michael, how that’s the only thing she knows, how that doesn’t even seem to be what is natural for her to do….

It is WRONG for her to be expected to be perfect. Perfect is what she’s expected to be, too! Perfect looks, perfect etiquette, perfect compassion… now even she thinks she must be perfect. Her job is perfection, and her job is what it is because of her mother.

A child should have a childhood, should have freedom to have fun and make one or two bad decisions and be an individual and develop their tastes and discover what they are good at and…

… to the bottom of my heart, I can only feel that this is wrong to exploit, shelter, and control a young person like this.

When you live a life bleached white, when you never know as much sadness and anger as you do passion and joy, you can’t live happily. When you live a lie, you can’t live happily. When you are expected to be perfect, you can’t live happily.

You just can’t. It’s unnatural. The world was made from conflict. The universe was made from chaos. Order is a statistical error, and one must work for perfection to attain it. There must be a certain amount of chaos, unpredictability, risk, for a person to live happy. One must feel that they earned what they consumed, that they did something worthwhile, that they mattered and weren’t just a placeholder of a consuming body. What is there to matter about in bleach-white land? What is there to improve? What is there to make better by your existence?

It is wrong to pretend you are perfect, and it is wrong to expect general perfection.

I figured it out, guys. Wtf is wrong with Mike. Clearly at the falls, where the bridge thing broke, he clearly fell and hit his head. That unchecked brain injury is obviously what made him do a 360 on Lucy. In all honesty, I think it’s a load what everyone’s saying about her being abusive. Let’s be honest, guys who are friends call each other names all the time. And Lucy is a bit of a tomboy, also, If you read back she was always very supportive of Mike and even encouraging him ( just re-read entire comic, it’s all there). Even with the whole Sandy thing. The parts where she messed up is where she wanted to keep it a secret from Yashy, was alittle less sensitive to Mike’s problem’s when they got into high school, and was angry at him for rejecting her. Mike’s been her BEST FRIEND, the person she’s wanted to hang out with since before kindergarten. She’s relied on him like someone who would a best friend, and he used to understand that. He got that she trusted him above all others and that she valued his friendship enough to stick to it through everything, including Sandy. Lucy doesn’t realize her friends won’t abandon her because Mike was willing to, why wouldn’t they? It makes sense why she has these issues, but it doesn’t make sense why suddenly he 360’d on her  . Yes, she’s rough around the edges, but for the most part she’s been a good friend to Mike. Go back and re-read it is you don’t agree, but if you look she beats the crap out of Paulo ALOT more then she ever did Mike. Speaking of, where’s Blur been? Did Lucy get custody? :O

Now that I have gotten to know Sandy a bit more, she might be one of m favorite characters now. It takes a lot to be so forgiving of Lucy when she has heard of the abuse to her boyfriend…even if Lucy did write that text. It seems to me that she just wants people to get along.

The scarf means totally different things than what you think it means.

You see, there are two types of scarves, the BLUE one and the STRIPED one.

If we convert the word “BLUE” to numerical form, we get “2-12-21-5”. If we add those together, we get “40”. Now, let’s check chapter 40, shall we? Ah, that’s when the MikexDaisy possibilty started cropping up! Now, I know most people wright “characternameXcharactername” but what it really means is “charachtername TIMES charactername”. Therefore, Mike (13+9+11+5=38) TIMES Daisy (4+1+9+19+25=58) is equal to 58*38, which, as everyone knows, equals 2204.

AHAHA! Now you know the TRUE meaning behind Taeshi’s symbolism! For you see, if you take the number “2-2-0-4” and convert that AGAIN to numberical form, you’ll see that 2= B, 0=O and 4=D.

BBOD! Which sounds suspiciously like “BAD”!!!! Therefore, it is safe to assume that the blue scarf is bad. YOU’RE WELCOME GUYS, MYSTERY SOLVED!

Guys… Mothers that push their children aren’t bitches. Wanting what’s best for your child is not something we should be scared of. Since I grew up in America, I’m used to the philosophy that your self-confidence is more important than your success. Unfortunately, success is one of the only ways to have true self-confidence. My father is not American by birth, and he pushed me and my siblings very hard, in a way that most Americans would consider mean or harsh. But I’m happy for it. I learned to work hard. I have earned everything I have. It wasn’t handed to me. Was there a period where I resented everything? Of course. But now I see that if I hadn’t been pushed, I would have most likely quit the things I love now.

She seems mean to us because she doesn’t care about Mike. Note please that she hasn’t seen Mike since like preschool, practically, so when Sandy’s all “my boyfriend” I dunno that it bears any true weight. I mean, if my 14 year old sister was like “gimme some time with my boyfriend you previously have not heard of and also who has been out of my life until now” I’d roll my eyes and give her five minutes, just like Sandy’s mom did.

For all we know, Sandy’s mom is just as hard-working as Sandy is. Maybe she had a bad day at work. Maybe she’s just tired. She doesn’t look wasted to me. She looks worn-down. Remember that it’s just as stressful to be a mom to a model as it is to be a model. It’s quite expensive and is not a long-lasting job opportunity. Headshots alone run over $1000 for good-quality photos. If she was in this for the money, why doesn’t she just make Sandy a barista or a stripper? Both require less time and effort.

So no, personally I think she wasn’t that mean at all. Abrupt and rude? Maybe. But she’s just not at “bitch” level to me yet.

The blue scarf: Like actually though he looks better in a blue scarf. It compliments his fur tone better. Also because I really don’t care who ends up with who I just want everyone to hold hands and skip through the meadows together because when there’s conflict I get anxious so really this should be Mike’s way of slowly working back to being friends with Lucy so then everyone can be happy and live life like it’s pretty ok.

The third panel. Oh my goodness what amazing art. It was so cute I think my heart actually stopped. Look at them. Look how incredibly happy they are. Just look.

I sincerely hope Sandy’s mom doesn’t try to make her break up with Michael. What parents never realize is that it’s impossible to FORCE their child to break up with anyone! Sure, the kid can SAY, yeah, mom, I broke up with him/her, but if two people like each other they WILL be in a relationship if they want it. Even if they can’t be together a lot, they can still declare themselves a couple, and long distance doesn’t seem to bother either of them to enough of an extent to end the relationship. If Sandy’s mom has an iota of sense (which unfortunately it seems like she doesn’t) she’ll just let them be.

Also, wtf, telling Sandy to keep her hair down? It’s her dang hair! It’s parenting like this that makes kids turn 18 and turn around and say f*** you, mom, and cut them out of their lives

Nice. It makes me like Sandy a lot more now that we’re seeing more depth to her character.

Obviously, most of the times that she’s been busy with modeling were most likely her mother pushing her. This might explain why Mike never got a chance to see her before now. It seems that Sandy’s mom is too busy planning her daughters career than to be worried about the boyfriend she just met. Sandy doesn’t appear to like this lack of interest at all. My guess is that this isn’t the first time her mom has acted like this.

It’s so nice that Sandy focuses on Mike’s problems rather than complain about hers. She really does care for him. :D

while i can’t speak for the others i will say this on my behalf. I don’t call out sandy’s mom because i hate her for getting between sandy and mike. In fact that might be a good thing with teenage hormones and all. But there is a difference between setting up a child for success and controlling a child so they can live the life you wanted for yourself. I haven’t seen anything in the comic yet that has shown me that sandy’s mom is just a concerned parent. If anything every encounter with her has been showing me that she is one of those messed up parents that wasn’t pretty enough or wasn’t financially stable enough in her youth to have the things she wanted.

While these issues can create a strong adult it can also go bad in that some of these parents overlay an image of themselves on their child and force the child to do things so that the parent can obtain some selfish sense of self worth. These types of parents are dangerous as they force the child to skip steps in their development and can severely damage the child’s behavior, simply put you have child forced to act like an adult and skip the entire teen stage. Extremely bad as many life lessons and much of personality building is done in the teen stage of development. Long story short, the child becomes obsessed with pleasing their parents and others even if it is destroying them socially, mentally, and physically.

Wow she seems like one of those mothers who make their kids do this so they can live their dream through their kids, making their kids miserable… *tsk, tsk, tsk SMH*

Okay, first of all: I do believe your point of view is a little bit biased. Since all you’ve seen in their relations is Sandy’s mother demands. Well, I also noticed that she was rather caring, wouldn’t called her cold, heartless, wanting to live her life through daughter. She doesn’t seem like that at all, since well, the way she is talking with her daughter clearly proves, that she does care about her, so this really makes situation suggested by Strider unlikely.

So let’s discuss other thing you mentioned. You’re pointing that Sandy is unhappy. Well, yeah. Banging her locker is clear sign of frustration. But does she states what is the source? It was if I’m correct one page after she talked with Michael. And she mentioned: friends, school, job, and said: “I think that’s good’ or something like that. And here we have matter of belief, either she was lying to prevent Mike from worrying about her, or she feels her life is not that bad, yet there’s something missing. And that something is having Mike by her side. Notice she never really complains about her life, stress, or anything. But she clearly, and loud enough complains about Mike not being there. And that’s a fact.

I won’t argue with last part of your comment. It was pretty much your personal belief, and I have a habit of not discussing this sort of things, since this is everyones personal matter.

Read “To the top” again. Since article you posted has nothing to do with the situation, judging by pages that were released so far. When you’re at it pay some attention to the way she’s talking with her daughter, and the way Sandy reacts to it.

Crusader of menopausing women trying to live the perfect childhood they never had.

GG at staying optimistic regarding the old hag.
Sandy’s most likely a person with quite a low self-esteem, except around people she’s comfortable with (Mike obviously)

Ngh, poor Mike, even worse off Sandy.

Already don’t like whoever that was. Either that’s Sandy’s agent or her mother. If it’s her mother, I really have to dislike her, since a parent shouldn’t push around their kid to focus on career over relationships. If it’s her agent or something, eh, not so much. An agent would just be doing their job, it’s not their purpose to really involve themselves in personal matters.

I think we just figured out what Sandy moved and why she never visited, excluding that one hit and miss even though it would seem she has enough to.

To everyone talking about how Sandy’s mother ‘clearly’ pushed her into this to live through her, Taeshi says differently: http://www.formspring.me/taeshi/q/ 351873614116570743

Well read the last line in that answer then.

Seems like her mother decided to turn the knob up to 11 while Sandy just wanted to keep it at a casual level so she could still have a personal life and most likely also time with other people not related to her career.

@z: I just said the mother didn’t force her into it in some horrid scheme to live through Sandy’s success. I never said her mother wasn’t being a hardass, just that it’s probably not as selfish as people are making her out to be.

Ack, the mom-as-manager. What a rough role to fill. She seems tired, and once again I wonder how much Sandy likes her job. But Mike looked pretty mature in panel one! Nice difference from the last time he was in a blue scarf. These two are cute, but too much sweet is bad for my teeth. ‘-‘;

it’s been so long since i have read this comic…i forgot it makes me cry most of the time. especialy the part about how lucy left a message saying she was going to stay away…it’s as heartbreaking as the first time i read romeo and juliet…it’s just so sad. which is probably why it’s such a good comic. ;_; i still cry thinking about it.

I’m glad we’ve been able to see more about who Sandy is. It was so easy to hate her when she was an almost faceless character who seemed to only exist in order to make Lucy miserable. Being able to see her and how she acts in present day is great. I actually really like her character.

liliputianbelle July 24, 2012, 9:48 AM EST.

Comment ID #223630

Yeah, just one problem, she complained about Sandy putting her hair up with the ribbon, didn’t even greet mike in a nice way or wait with interrupting until they were finished.
Especially her choice of words (the few that were) aren’t exactly some with a positive and inspiring hint, only excuse for those would be a chronic depression, and then she shouldn’t run around and pretending to be a manager.
In short: she’s busy living a life full on stress, and she’s dumping that on her daughter.
That just ain’t cool, no matter the success.

@z: Again, not saying that the mom isn’t being a bit rude right here. But there’s a lot of possible explanations (like you said, stress), and the fact that everyone immediately accuses her of living through Sandy’s success strikes me as jumping to conclusions just like people did with Sandy for years.

Sandy is cute … But way too one-dimensional. Too perfect. I can’t like her because she has no faults. I like when my characters make mistakes, makes them easier to relate to. Her only fault is that she does not stand up to her mother like she should. I don’t mind her dating Mike because I think he is conceited… Not a jerk, simply a bit stupid. So I don’t mind him rejecting Lucy. I just don’t like how he did it. It was cruel, even for someone being angry.
Sorry for my english :3
