Maybe I judged Augustus too harshly for his acting like Lucy’s Michael exposure needed to be that strictly policed. I really underestimated how quickly she’d come crawling back for more.

As much as people will hate this, it needs to happen

Them staying away from eachother clearly isn’t working

This isn’t about leaving a traumatic past behind anymore, this is about facing your troubles instead of running away from it.

The guild they both cary from hurting eachother is not going to go away unless they come together and are able to hear eachother out without pointing fingers.

I think I’ve come to realize that Lucy never wanted to separate from Mike. And vice versa. You know when despite it all- you care for someone? That’s her. She covers it up with being harsh, or emotionally distant. I think there can be some truth to her trauma bonding because Mike was always there for her when something happened. But it’s evident that Augustus is there now, her friends are there now. It’s not that she CAN’T go to them, it’s that she doesn’t WANT to- she wants to go to Mike. She wants Mike specifically with all her problems. She wants him to understand. Him to console her. She doesn’t want anyone else. I think that’s the real issue with their relationship.

They’ve both done things to hurt each other for sure. But I think she FELT she had to stay away from him not because she actually wanted to. Her issue is that she doesn’t truth others the way she trusts Mike. I think that was evident in the animatic -

Countdown to a witness and this being Mike’s fault somehow

Will Mike stonewall her because he’s too numb/tired/self-hating to respond? Will Augustus come outside at exactly the wrong time, misconstrue the situation and overreact? Some awful (or wonderful) third thing??

Either Lucy is running towards Mike, or Mike will break from his daze quick enough to run to help Lucy.

Either way these two NEED to talk its clear distancing from each other isn’t working.

What I really need is for Augustus to have his backside mysterious superglued to his seat.

Cause if he comes outside just as soon as Lucy and Mike are this close 👌 to confronting their problems/finding a breakthrough, so help me….

Ahaha… God, I… Yeah. That hits deep. I know exactly how that feels and it’s not fun. But in the right circumstances, with the right people, it really can be cathartic to just… let go and be vulnerable in that moment. No needing to try and be strong, just having a true, mask off interaction with someone. Ideally someone you trust, who you can confide in without remorse.

I just… don’t know if Mike can really be that anchor for Lucy in this moment, at least not without drowning himself in the process.
