I personally wouldn’t call this growth. It’s very obvious that Lucy is emotionally dependent on Mike still (and others for that matter like Augustus). While she did apologize. When she looks into his eyes you can see that moment of closeness she experiences with Mike. It is good that she doesn’t push herself onto Mike, but she’s probably going to go back into the lunchroom having a break down. Which we have shown this whole time, as she gets emotionally volatile when she isn’t doing well.

I think Mike also did want comfort, but it’s true. Everything that’s been said and done has left him broken. I think she’s failing to also see that Mike is like this not *just* because what’s happened between them but everything in between. The boy hates himself, and he’s self-harming by neglecting himself even he doesn’t realize it or see it that way. Mike is Lucy from December, the only difference is the way he’s gone about it.
