Iirc Tessa was mainly lost as a Freshman until she began dating Roger. Running with his crowd was what mainly influenced her to act the way she did but then Roger cheated on her which caused her to finally leave him. He also wound up graduating, along with his gang; which left Tessa alone Junior year.

I feel bad for Jess mostly because if this play was a hit I'm pretty sure this would be a series where the villain has a majority of the fans and she would Not be able to write people out of high key rooting for her.
