Rereading the previous pages…Jess really did make the “Rachel” stand-in awful…I can see why she is hurt

Did she? Judging from the comments when it appeared it seems most of us deemed Rina a “cutie/funny”. At worse it’s a playfull jab on something Rachel has laughed at and been okay with before

Yea but the character really seems to make light of the main character’s phone being used to send lewd messages. Rachel we know was a strong rock for Jessie through all the awful allegations and rumors. Idk…maybe thinking too much on it

I can’t believe a friendship is probably gonna end because of this

Yeah I’m still standing by my initial thoughts abt this, Jess was definitely writing with her own story in mind, and I don’t think she intentionally meant to stereotype her friends, but if that’s how she put them in subconsciously… It says a lot about how she views them already. Especially with the comment about her friends being “under copyright”… That leaves a bad taste in my mouth, personally. Like girl thats not how you talk to your friends who have been nothing but supportive of you……

I still think Rachel is taking all of this way too personally. Basing the characters loosely on her friends doesn’t mean that’s how she feels about them. Also, Rachel has proudly declared herself a slut on many occasions, so not sure why she’s so upset.

It’s because a general character trait of Rachel’s was turned into the character’s ONLY trait in the play. Not to mention Rachel’s actual role in the original story, being there for Jessica when she was going through the worst of the rumors, was completely thrown out and given to Maddison’s stand-in character Misty instead. I doubt Rachel cares about being called a slut, but being reduced to nothing but a slut who can’t think of any other way to console her friends? Yeah, that probably still hurts.

The key there though, is that it’s a character. It isn’t Rachel. They’re all mixes of people and traits she knows. Like Teagan was a mix of Tess and Tiff. It’s loosely based on real events, it isn’t an exact copy. Hence why I feel Rachel is taking it too personally.

While I won’t deny that Rach is taking things too far at this point, the fact is that we now know that Jess DID base the characters in her play on real people, particularly her friends, without considering how they would feel about their portrayals. And her dismissal of her friends feelings and borline gaslighting about their inclusion certainly didn’t help resolve the conflict before tempers flared. If Jess were to lose Rachel as a friend at this point, it would be because of her own actions and dismissal of Rachel’s feelings, regadless of whether or not she or anyone else believes that Rachel’s feelings are justified.

I get that, but it’s possible it was mostly unconscious until it was pointed out. I doubt there was any malice in her decision. Had Rachel approached this without accusations maybe Jess wouldn’t have instantly gone on the defensive.

“So what if it was?”

Aaaand the other shoe drops. She’s done denying it now, so she’s shifting the goalpost.

Now, to be fair, Jess is right, there is absolutely nothing wrong with telling a story based on your own life experiences. But if you’re sticking so close to the source material… you really should take careful considerations as to how you portray the stand-in characters for the people you care about in your life. (and, you know… maybe don’t finalize it without getting their feedback on the initial draft in order to iron out these issues before a public release)

It’s weird bc I can see both sides but IV totally wrote things not meaning to make it about other people I know whatsoever but then people I knew were set on making me admit i wrote it about them when I absolutely did not. IV been in Jess’s shoes but actually didn’t write said stories about those people but have been accused of the same. Even if she seems to admit it here I can’t help but feel they are all pushing Jess to admit she wrote it about them even if she didn’t which is not fair :/ if she truely didn’t write it about them on purpose, it wasn’t out of malice. Idk how to exactly feel on this one 😅 but I do see both sides. Yikes 😬

Yup. Rachel is definitely ascribing more malice than was likely intended by Jess, and is definitely taking part in escalating the fight. Tempers are probably too high at this point for either of them to actually listen to reason without something to shock them out of their current headspace.

Funny, the last time Jes called you a slut which wasn’t that long ago you were giggling like a child and now suddenly it’s a flaw and a grave insult. Even if Jes fully intended to base rina on rachel it wouldn’t justify this heavy of a reaction. Time to get a hold of yourself and step over this anthill you deemed a mountain Rachel

I think it’s cause at the time it was just between them. Friends can make jabs at eachother and be comfortable cause they are still friends. But she made a whole play and put all their personality traits on blast to everyone else. and Worse, revealed that she may think they are just one dimensional people of negative traits.

I don’t think that basing a side character in a play on a single trait of somebody you know reveals in any way how you feel about a person as a whole.

If anything Rachel’s heavy reaction seems to suggest more that this is how she views herself. She’s just lashing out at Jess cause that’s easier then being real with yourself.

It’s pretty clear she just came here to pick a fight and not care about any explanation that Jes was going to give.

Cause Jess making it clear that she sees Rachel as more then that doesn’t fix how Rachel views herself

I might agree that she’s getting too angry about how she was portrayed, but it says alot when you are depicted in a play with just a single negative trait. People have mentioned they joked about her being a slut before and she’d just laugh. At the time this comes off just being friends, comfortable with eachother to laugh at light jabs cause they trust eachother.

But to be reduced to just that trait by that person, especially when she was there to comfort her alot during that time. You can see why it’s so insulting and demeaning. Makes you start to wonder if you should have helped them at all if they won’t even apreciate it.
