*David holds up a first-place flag.*
David: And DAVID wins the race!

*Paulo, appearing beside David, sneers.*
Paulo: Of course you’d win. Long legs are cheating.
[An arrow, pointed to Paulo: 2nd]

Katie: Oh my GAWD it’s actually over!
*David notices Katie’s voice.*

*David looks down to see Katie flopped onto the ground beside him.*

David: Need help, woman?
*David offers his hand, while Katie blushes.*

*David helps Katie to her feet. She looks awestruck. Sparkles appear around the two.*

Katie: Wow..
*Her eyes grow large and shimmery.*

*David’s fluffy ears are emphasized, with more shine and sparkles surrounding his face.*
Katie: Your hair is, like, even more amazing up close.
*Katie’s good eye becomes a heart as she stares at him, enamoured.*

David: You smell like dirt. Have you been rolling around in it?
*Katie looks mortified.*
Katie: Ack-- Is that a problem?!

David: No! I do it all the time!
*David belly flops onto the grass, looking up with a silly face.*

David: Maybe three times a day if I have the chance!
*Katie gasps, putting her hands to her cheeks. Her eye sparkles.*
Katie (thinking): So THAT’S it!

David: Yep! A good roll in the dirt opens up the pores!
*Katie, hearts floating around her, follows David as he walks.*
Katie: Tell me more!

David: You’d make a good pirate.
*David imitates a hook with his hand. Katie swoons.*
Katie: Whatever you say, beauty guru!

*Lucy and Mike, smiling, watch Katie and David. Mike is holding a cane.*
Lucy: Aww!
Mike: They’re really getting along..
Katie: ♥ ♥

*Lucy looks up at Mike, supportively.*
Lucy: Will you be alright, Mike?
Mike: Yeah. I won’t need to buy a yearbook now I got this cast!

*Yashy appears, smugly smiling.*
Yashy: So the two of you are giving up on competition?
Lucy: I gave Mike a pity win. No skin off my back, really.
Yashy: Flea doesn’t need pity wins to marry you, just propose!

*Lucy blushes, deeply embarrassed.*
Mike: FORE!
*Mike smacks Yashy into the sky with his cane.*

*Mike, satisfied, leans back on his cane. He is wearing a cast on his injured leg.*
Mike: I’m gonna love this cane.
*Lucy looks on admiringly.*

Author commentary

Veronica: The Injured Mike arc begins…

I admittedly wanted to make his cast-wearing phase last a lot longer than it did.. but there’s an understandable “time skip” eventually. You’ll see how soon it heals.. then again, you don’t really expect that Mike’s leg is like.. HORRIFICALLY broken from just a fall. Probably just a sprained ankle or something. He’ll be fiiiiine.

I am clearly someone who has never gotten her foot broken before. I did wear something for a while when I stepped on glass and cut one of my toes, though!
