I can’t help but wonder what happened with the scissors. MUST HAVE BCI CHAPTER CONCERNING IT.
So, lesson learned. Don’t give Paulo anything ever. He’s a nexus of broken or lost objects. Also, don’t tick off Mike. [s]He’ll probably scream about how much he hates you (That’s a joke, everyone.)[/s] He looks like he could bite off Paulo’s head in that last panel. :x
…hmm…I wonder, if you lent Paulo a washing machine, would it wind up in the washing machine?…

The scissors fell thousands of feet into a volcano, got rejected, landed on a freeway, slashed every tire they came in contact with, fell into the ocean, a whale ate them, bought them to Australia, some guy found them, tried brought them on a plane to Roseville, dropped it, Paulo found them, and he threw away Mike’s invincible scissors. :P

Mike, calm down and walk away… like right now. If you blow up on Paulo fully, then well just put two and two together… I’m sure Sue will be able to connect the dots when she watches you lose your temper… if you manage to get into full rage mode. Please just calm down and back away, Mike before it is too late end you end up regretting it.

Paulo, leave Mike alone, get your own, and try not to break it.

Somebody is going to get a critical hit soon… if you don’t count Sue getting owned by David, Amaya getting shut up before she had a chance to say anything, or Mike proving that Paulo cannot have nice things… because they usually end up missing or broken… I just made a connection that I wish I hadn’t. Fangs September 20, 2013, 5:00 PM EST.

Comment ID #259946

@Follarch: There is no real proof that Lucy tried to commit suicide, but it is the popular headcanon for many fans and there is also some really great artwork for it in the Candybooru. @Chinatsu did a great job with it which is why I linked it to anyone that asked about Lucy as a way of giving those fans a deeper look into the situation. Several fans want to see Lucy again, but the fact they fail to see is that she just isn’t well right now. We get it, you miss Lucy… we all miss Lucy and as much as we want to see her again… I’m sorry, but we just aren’t going to see her anytime soon.

Also, tell me what Sue can do about the situation? Do you want her to mope around some more being depressed about losing her friend as her grades slip and life passes her by or do you want her to use this distraction to forget about her sorrows for now? I think I prefer the second one, but that’s just me. I have no idea what you like.

I like thinking of a more positive future sometimes. Try thinking of a scenario that works for whatever ship happens to be your favorite. If it has Lucy than imagine a future event or a past event happening in a different way… just please stop saying how much you miss her or want to see her again… please? We already had enough people asking for her in past updates. It’s getting a bit… tiring. :(

They’re not cold-hearted ********, man. It’s just, what choice do they have? Tell me, if you were in the same situation as Paulo, and everything had been the same up until this point, would you really spend all your time wallowing in self-pity?

When my cousin died, it felt like I’d been gut-punched. By a gorilla. Wearing brass knuckles. That were on fire. It hurt. And it continued to hurt horribly for weeks afterward, and still hurts today. But it wouldn’t do me any good to sit around crying. Within a few days, I was acting the same as I ever had, because I had no choice. It was either that or let my life come to a screeching halt because of one person, and no matter how important they are, it’s just not worth it. The situation is the same, minus the death, for the BCB Cast. They all hurt. They all miss Lucy to varying degrees. But what choice do they have but to keep going? They mourn in private, or in their heads, but amongst others (where most of this comic takes place) they’re almost normal.

So before you start bitching and moaning about how the characters are unrealistic, how they’re getting over things too quickly, do me a favor. Consider the fact that it’s been at least a week or three since Lucy poofed, and consider that, whatever their appearance, they are very human. And if you still claim that they’re unrealistically cold, then I’m sorry, but you’re a waste of 2 billion years worth of evolution. Or a God’s Day worth of Creation, take your pick.

I’m not going to question THE GREAT AND POWERFUL TAESHI, but what the hecks going on? They all went to daisys to study because lucy left, and not one of them realy talked about it. Paulo maby but it got glanced, i wanna see how its effecting everyone, I’m shure were going to see a chapter dedicated to mourning over her, could see that with jessica. But where is the mourning? Where’s the scene where mike pays for his sins? This chapter seems like somthing that would happen as filler before she left. Don’t get me wrong i love that the comic plays out like real life, and they can have many storys, but it is leaving me restless. I trust u Taeshi.

JustSomeCritic September 21, 2013, 12:01 AM EST.

I think to spend even more time on characters feeling sad about Lucy would make the comic tedious. I suggest you re-read the last few chapters if you feel it was ignored… I thought it was done well.

I made a reference to “Where’s Poochy?” a few pages back. That’s not good writing, because it’s not how real people act.

@Chist: They spent plenty of time moping, but you weren’t paying attention long enough to notice it. :/

Ever think that maybe they spent more than a couple of days moping around? It just wasn’t shown because honestly, who would like seeing everyone crying and moping around for a couple of months? If you raised your hand, then I’m concerned. I don’t see how that is a good thing.

They cried, they moped around, and then Daisy threw a party to help them try to be strong. What part of this makes them seem apathetic? If you think it is normal for teenagers to drop everything and forget about their own lives when one of their friends move away, then you are wrong. For a few days… sure that’s normal, but for weeks on end… no. They are teenagers in high school, they have to deal with their grades and other problems in their daily lives.

Tl;Dr: They have lives… they spent enough time moping around and honestly, what can they do? Mike is the only one who knows she was in the hospital… everyone else thinks she’s moved away without telling them anything… what can they possibly do at this point other than move on? They don’t have any idea where she went either so there’s that too.

supertails19 September 21, 2013, 11:31 AM EST.

Comment ID #259996

Honestly, I think Mike’s temper only gets shorter as the story progresses. He’s going to let something slip sooner or later.

@Taeshi: I think the reason that tons of people believe that everyone has forgotten about Lucy is that there was no aftershock after the initial breakdowns. To some, it seemed like they were mourning one day, and having adventures the next. I know that isn’t the case, however, I think that there should of been some sort of buffer between Study Buddies and Safe Boundaries. I have no problem with the way you made the transition, I just felt that others were trying to say this, but it came out, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH…

The other complainers, as far as I know, only want drama.

@Other_Complainers: If you think that you have some other legit reason, speak up, I don’t bite on purpose (can’t say that about the others).

Aw cmonnnnn, Mike is overreacting again. He makes it sound like everything that Paulo borrows, that ends up in the washing machine despite of him not wearing any clothes most of the time. He just wanna borrow it for school reasons and unless there is a washing machine in the exhibit, how the hell can it harm to borrow him that thing for a moment while keeping an eye on him? It cant take long to get info for that circle thing.
Now stop being a jerk for a moment Mike and borrow him that thing, he needs it more than you, even Lucy would approve despite of acting like she don’t give a **** 8-)

Been dealing with these guys for a while, i believe most (not all, some are actually genuinely concerned about Lucy) of them are expecting some sort of divine retribution thing, so they want Lucy back to get the ball rolling. They expect Mike to have to suffer outwardly, to get some sort of karmatic retribution outside of a guilty conscience and a punch in the nose. Now i can’t say if Taeshi has something big planned for Mike, but i will say that if the guilty conscience and the punch is the extent of the his punishment then i can see that. The problem is others seem to gloss over the fact that Lucy wasn’t exactly an innocent character as some seem to believe and that Mike was only really guilty of being too harsh.

buchanen_neket September 21, 2013, 12:16 PM EST.

Comment ID #259999

It’s the longest cliffhanger, and I understand that it must get on their nerves, but it’s not like the whole comic’s on hold.

I think the people who, “gloss over the fact,” are either, not good at reading, care about the characters way too much, or love confusing people, it’s really annoying.

As for Mike, I still agree with you. However, I think the punch was pretty wimpy of Paulo, though I could see why, he only punched the cheek. Sue’s scarf-choking was far more satisfying. There will be more drama on the subject.

Hawz September 21, 2013, 1:02 PM EST.

Comment ID #260000

I don’t think it’s strange at all that they’re not spending every chapter mourning over Lucy - that’s not to say that they’ve forgotten about her, rather that life goes on and they have a lot of things going on in their lives. For the readers of the comic I suppose a lot of things revolve around Lucy because she has been one of the main focuses of the comic for a long time and one of the most deeply explored characters - if not THE most. The characters do have lives aside from her though - it doesn’t mean they don’t care anymore, but they’re not going to spend every waking moment whining amongst themselves because she’s gone. What can they even do about it anyway? What more is there for them to talk about and why would they wreck the mood just to bring it up over and over? I’m sure they do talk about her and think about her, the comic just doesn’t bring it up all the time because it would be a waste of pages simply relaying the same stuff over and over again and allowing things to quickly stagnate.

I actually feel like the last couple of chapters have really picked up the pace and we’ve had some interesting character development instead of just repeating the same formula. This chapter has shown some real diversity with regards to camera angles and backgrounds and conveys the movement between rooms and areas pretty well too - it’s all looking pretty slick and natural and we’re seeing a lot of panels with two or more characters interacting in various interesting ways. The last chapter showed another side to Daisy and Abbey’s relationship - it’s been refreshing to get back to some more lighthearted antics and see the group (mostly) all together, just seeing how everyone interacts. When was the last time you saw Paulo interacting with Sue?

Perhaps some of you don’t care - others may be more interested in seeing where Taeshi will go with all these characters instead of trying to force her to go over the same issues right here right now until it’s been done to death by whining on every page no matter what happens.

I think something you all have to keep in mind is that it is said that Lucy is, in fact, alive. (I missed that my first read-through Breaking Up <.<) Its much easier to…not ignore, but move on from an ATTEMPTED suicide/move, than it is from an ACTUAL suicide. I imagine quite a few of the characters would be acting differently if Lucy were dead.

I find it funny that it’s the same people who spend eons trying to convey even longer comments countering relatively small responses along the lines of “I miss lucy.” Those folks know who they are. :/

So what? The people labeled “complainers” say like one or two lines, but you pro-current-plot people spend so much effort writing letters on how misguided those folks are. It’s just so much pointless “My undies are in a notch over nothing.” Take a chill pill folks.

Anyway, I bet paulo used the scissors for his pubes and that’s why he didn’t give them back.

It’s like they don’t even care about Lucy.
Or they did for a short while to satisfy their conscience and then dropped it like a hot potato.

Interrogate Jordan? Naaah.
Ask her mother? Too much work.
Get their own parent(s) involved in asking Lucy’s mother? Don’t care enough about her for that.
Go to crazy lengths like friends usually do? Well that would require them to see her as more than just a nuisance.

Drit September 22, 2013, 2:24 PM EST.

Yeah, they really didn’t try. But I supposed if Taeshi made them care and try, then we as an audience would also learn what happen. And Taeshi wants this in suspense for whatever silly reason. So unfortunately, the only way to make this happen is for them to become very aloof/care less/ give up easier, and not try to determine what happened.

I_Love_Lucy September 22, 2013, 3:09 PM EST.

Jesus ****ing christ, Taeshi has said it already, quite a bit of time has passed since Lucy was admitted into the hospital. That means that all the mopey sadness stuff probably has already happened “off camera”. Just because you didn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. For ****’s sake, what do you expect, for every page without lucy for them to be going “OH MY GOD, LUCY’S NOT HERE, WHATEVER WILL WE DO”. Time has passed so that also means that, just like in real life, the characters have moved forward with their lives. So please, GET THE **** OVER IT. They’ve had their pity party, it’s over, we and they are moving on. You guys acted like she freaking died.

I notice lately you and others keep basically telling anyone who cares about Lucy to shut up but you cant deny they make good points that this story is rather skipping options they could make and instead you claim that all Lucy fans expect her friends to cry in a corner quite some pages.

90% of us care about Lucy, yes. We wanna know what happened to her and some of us expect a bit more efford in finding info as mentioned by @Drit. Heck, we had chapters of Mike putting more effort in meeting Sandy in other town with that lake gag for example.

Then again, we can tell our opinions about how the story is made and its up to Taeshi to decide where the story goes. I know it gets annoying to see over and over the same “where is Lucy” comments but ppl like you could eather ignore the comments or atleast not be rude…pls? :)

Ppl simly have the need to discuss some topic so let them have fun and tell theyr opinions in a friendly manner

I wouldn’t care except at this point it’s been hit from every angle. This horse has been beaten repeatedly to death. That’s why i’m snapping, it’s getting very tiring. This issue has been covered at length by the commenters AND the author, it’s no longer amusing. All the people who keep bringing it up are sparking the contempt of other commenters here. Who’s to say the others didn’t dig in deeper, who says that they haven’t put effort into finding out what happened. After something like that you think anyone wants to talk about it, let alone her parents. Lucy’s alive, the parents are probably thankful for it but right now they probably want everyone to leave them alone to handle this issue themselves. Besides, knowing that lucy is alive is the FURTHEST extent of what is her friends business. Her reasons are between her and her family. Those who keep siting that part of the issue are after one thing and one thing only, retribution for december.

Beyond that, these same people who constantly bring up the missing time span are the same people who need to learn to read between the lines. Especially since there is a time span that was done, as i said, off camera. Taeshi even included a chapter showing the impact it was still having on them. Although it got a tad sidetracked, it’s still there.

I’m rambling at this point, so i’ll summarize to conclude this. People need to be patient and enjoy the comic as it is now, beating this horse into the ground is accomplishing nothing except aggrevating the commentors here. If they can’t stand to wait well, nobody’s holding a gun to their head to make them keep reading the comic. If they want to beat this into the ground, there’s the forums somewhere around here. They can do a 20 page thread about the author’s “mistake” of not including her friends going all detective conan on the scenario against respecting the family’s privacy. Personally, i’m enjoying the comic as it is. I’m glad to see the other characters finally getting some “camera” time and development.

Poor @buchanen_neket, don’t take it so seriously. I don’t think anyone really wants endless pages of her friends saying they miss her and moping.

Taeshi spent time with initial reactions, but glazed over the part where a good friend would try to get the main questions answered, “What happened to land her in the hospital, Will she be okay, and When can I see her again, if ever?”

The reader frustration makes sense since people feel it was skipped and replaced with this terminal acceptance on behalf of her friends.

For example, Daisy’s party could have stirred up some motivation to try to asking other people in Lucy’s family. One panel with a doctor shaking his head and refusing to talk to them, Lucy’s family answering machine stating that they aren’t taking calls, or they get kicked out of the hospital after trying to see her. It didn’t even have to be long to address this issue.

These sorts of actions by her friends would have showed genuine concern, and made it obvious that the friends cared enough to *try* to find answers. Even if those attempts led nowhere. Only trying the brother once, and only Mike trying to check the hospital once makes it seem like there is a general lack of concern for Lucy.

Taeshi, having failed to address this, now has a few readers who think that Lucy was right, and her friends really do hate her. :/ Taeshi a great writer, but she forgot this key ingredient.

Again, maybe they did or maybe they didn’t or MAYBE they realize that badgering the family after something so traumatic would be disrespectful. Further, just because they aren’t showing it outwardly doesn’t mean it isn’t still on their minds. It’s just that there is nothing they can do. So they are moving on. Read between the lines, that’s kind of what Taeshi is hoping for, that her readers have enough intelligience to read between the lines and come to a conclusion that Lucy’s friends have already gone through the motions off camera in some shape form or fashion.

It has nothing to do with the reader intelligence.

We can’t be expected to assume events happened when there was no evidence of it happening. All we have is the comic panels to go off of for this story. If it isn’t drawn, and there is no character dialogue, we can’t just make stuff up and assume that events happened if there is no evidence.

This would be similar to having paulo drawn on his back in this page’s next scene, but leaving out any character reaction or physical evidence of it happening.

As a reader, I have no idea why that character went from upright, to on his ***, and why no one has said anything on the matter, not even Paulo himself. The next panel shows Paulo upright as he continues on his merry way with no embarrassed expression. Suddenly there is no reasoning behind why he was drawn on his back for the first panel.

He could have been pushed, or alien could have landed and altered gravity for a moment so that he was horizontal.

But I didn’t see it. There were no clues. I don’t know. As a reader, I have to assume that something went wrong in the planning of that page. It must be poor writing, because otherwise the event doesn’t make sense.

See what I’m getting at here? That’s poor writing.

and in a book you have nothing but text, but you still come to conclusions about parts that were omitted. For instance let’s say a detective character at the end of one chapter is talking about a case getting dropped on his desk and the start of the next chapter he is at the crime scene. You can safely assume that he drove an unmarked sedan there, you can assume that nothing big outside the norm happened. The author chose to omit the drive because it wasn’t essential to the story because the reader can come to some conclusion about what happened between A and B.

Same thing here, there wasn’t a need to go into great detail because a person can assume they went through some form of the 5 stages. The next chapter, Taeshi shows that they are going through some stage of grief. From that we can assume they progressed up to the stage of acceptance in the off camera time span. If Taeshi had written in all that to show how everyone dealt with the trauma, it would’ve taken too long to establish what we already know: they’re sad / traumatized. So she chose to clue into the character mindset and be done to leave it up to the reader to come to a conclusion for themselves how the characters dealt with their trauma.

Further, it wouldn’t take that long to reach acceptance because this is a case of trauma, not loss. Lucy didn’t die, so what they would be going through is shock and the associated reactions.

Then i’d think this would be a good example of why the forum needs to be reintroduced. Obviously getting rid of the forum didn’t streamline things much. Now we have a cluster of arguments that before could have been taken to the forum to reduce the strain on the main page. Not to mention all the data associated keeping up all those posts. At least that’s how it seems to me.

Again I was less concerned with the sadness being drawn in, and more concerned that her friends don’t actually know anything about what happened (Bar Mike). Like I pointed out with a few examples, this would have been an easy fix for Taeshi.

Considering the main part of this plot surrounds the interactions of these characters, I find it really odd that the friends are not shown doing what friends do best: Caring unconditionally.

What else is this comic, if not an exposition of the relationships of good friends in high school? Good friends do not just let their friends be if they end up in the hospital. They get involved, know what’s happening, and visit. Ever hear the saying, you know who your real friends are when **** hits the fans?

Taeshi may have meant to prove to us that Lucy does not have good friends, but I do not think this is the case based on the rest of her comic. And Lucy in the hospital is a big deal on this comic’s scale of events, on par with Mike falling down a cliff. And for the author to mishandle the relationships involved in this turning point in the story is a tad sloppy for her as a writer.

She has shown that, Paulo punching Mike comes to mind. Why would he do that UNLESS he found out something more about Lucy’s condition. Remember the last we had saw of him before he slugged Mike, he just knew something had happened to Lucy not the specifics. Again, this is to clue in the reader that the others have found out about Lucy at later points. Later there was Sue’s questioning of if mike had some responsibility for Lucy’s condition. Again another clue. Taeshi even said a few pages ago she had left clues if people had bothered to look for them. She’s been clueing us in that the others have found out about lucy being in the hospital. Later she clues us into their state of mind on the issue.

Further you really need to lay off the teen dramas on tv if you believe that badgering a family after trauma is how a friend should act. If anything that’s how a dick would act. A rational person would understand the last thing needed is to prod a family who’s dealing with a hard time as this will only stress them out more and make them suffer worse.

Hey guys it’s time again for taeshi to paste the same thing over and over again for people that didn’t see it the first time:

Are the people complaining about Lucy really thinking such things as “everyone is happy so that means they never cared/moved on too quick” and “has it been a week she’s been gone?”?

1. It hasn’t been a week, as it was referenced here: http://www.bittersweetcandybowl.com/c78/p4.html

(it says a month)

2. That same page even shows that they are not happy but they are still trying to move on. You don’t spend every waking moment of your life moping and crying, they did plenty of moping and crying in the chapter when she disappeared and Daisy even made a study party that showed everyone still moping. Do some of you just overlook all that?

Do the characters never go to the toilet? I mean I haven’t shown that in the comic so that must not happen ever right

None of them ever bathe for that matter

I have this stuff planned and hints have been left for people to theorise and interpret and piece together what might have happened, but in the mean time the comic revolves around other characters as well and not just Lucy. Other characters who have school and relationships to worry about and distract them (distractions like study parties that Daisy used as a way to cheer people up)

There’s nothing wrong with liking Lucy, there’s something wrong with crying “filler” or “bad writing” just because it’s focusing on other characters who aren’t her. She’s not showing up anytime soon, either accept that or you’re going to have a very unhappy time reading the comic for a long long time.

There’s also this page: http://www.bittersweetcandybowl.com/c76/p9.html

Hey waitaminute isn’t Leaving Home a grieving chapter??? Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa who woulda thunkit

and wasn’t Study Buddy about a party.. specifically organised.. to help people.. from coping……..

awww but where did you got that idea from? None mentioned shes dead (just some silly fans). Only her brother said he just don’t wanna loose his little sister. Also Lily told to Mike in one of the pages that shell be fine and out of the hospital in a week (breaking up chapter). Then we know from Daisy that its been a month now.
Lucy may be gone but not dead gone…
I guess as far the story goes, it migh not be the time yet for her to return to them after doing such extreme decision to leave school and move away from home. Personaly I hope she wont take the whining from Mike any loonger, gets back to her awesome remarks and we get to see more fruit cake Vs man ***** 8-D

 Vs 8-) ! Who shall make the critical hit for this chapter?!! Start doing the bet ppl XD
