When I was in grade school I knew multiple people age 12 who had already had sex. For a lot of them it was their choice.At that age it didn’t seem weird, although they felt miles ahead of me in relationships I wasn’t ready for. That being said I don’t think we should assume that Melanie assaulted Auggie,it could have very well been consensual. Not to mention its open to interpretation, they might just be cuddling, hitting second base, we don’t know! That’s why the rest of this chapter is important for clarity.
