Oh dear. Pointing fingers right now is not the way young Sue. But I’m so proud of you for giving her your perspective. Luce needs a little of that.

Set! Her! Straight! This is going to hurt Lucy in the short term, but she has to stop letting her feelings warp her memories of what happened. In the long term, remembering the context of the situation and taking ownership of her part in it will bring her greater healing.

I couldn’t agree more. This could be transformative if Lucy embrasses this shift in perspective.

I honestly wouldn’t be suprise if this is going to be sues moment of Lucy “pedastal” beginning to show cracks and she begins to have doubts in some things

So two ways I see this ending, Sue will give Lucy the greatest reason you suck speech.
Or
Lucy will get fed up and in normal Lucy fashion resort to violence and punch Sue breaking their friendship.

Has she ever hurt Sue before? On purpose? Physically, I mean… Emotionally, yes, I know lol.

I mean she’s not wrong but also like…probably not the way to go about it. But I don’t blame her for also lashing out back after lucy basically yelled at her when she’s traumatized about it too.

IIRC, they missed the bus because of Lucy, but Mike had the idea to take the train and they got on the wrong one, which is how they got lost. So not entirely true unless the reason they missed the right bus/train was because they were fighting (which admittedly is very possible)
Snowstar837
Comment ID #253162
So reading back what I can grasp is, the gang missed the bus from something Lucy did, and it was Mike’s decision to take a train instead of waiting for the next bus (if there even was one).
There isn’t enough details to rightfully put one person to blame for the entire encounter that it led up to.
I do hope this does open up Lucy’s perspective a bit more of what actually lead up to that moment, rather than her recluse back in her shell to victimize herself.

Yes there is
The one person to blame is Alejandro
Trying to blame anyone else what happened there makes no sense no matter the details
By that logic everyone should live in padded cells and anyone who doesn’t and ends up hurt only has themself to blame

I like that Sue didn’t just take this on the chin, but I should have known this conversation was about to get a lot messier and more destructive, haha…
Here we see how two teenagers are reacting poorly to a situation that traumatized them both. Lucy’s trauma has festered unaddressed to the point that she’s started blaming and lashing out at the people who were just as helpless as she was. Meanwhile Sue couldn’t even allow herself to think about what happened; for the sake of her own stability, she had to repress it, forget it, and try to move on.
Have any of these teens ever told ANY adult about what happened? I have to imagine no?

I want them to be teens and handle this as teens do. It’s not right that Lucy gets to point fingers, but when Sue does it, it’s suddenly “not the right response,” and everyone’s suddenly on the “don’t pass the blame or point fingers” train? She’s not even saying anything wrong; what Sue said actually happened. Unlike Lucy, who’s remembering it differently. They’re all children and should get to handle it as such. Stop trying to force maturity onto these kids. It’s not right that some have to walk on eggshells while others get a pass to be as volatile as they want. It should’ve never been one-sided in the first place. Let them have this moment.

For reaaal, Sue has been through a lot with this group and I think her throwing a little bit of mud back when it’s being slung her way shouldn’t be unexpected. This whole chapter has been highlighting how teenagers can be kind of irrational about trauma and go about things in unhelpful ways, god forbid Sue be upset that Lucy’s treating her unfairly about an event that harmed both of them
Antares

Oh absolutely! We can’t expect adult decision making here. These children experienced life altering trauma that wasnt their fault and has never been addressed until now. They have no clue how to navigate this conversation.
But it sure is fun thinking of ways to improve these girls chances. Tossing my two cents in type of thing.

I had a thought if this conversation is going where I think is going.
Do you think not only their friendship, but Sue “pedastal” of Lucy could be breaking too? She was most vocal I believe about wanting her back at the table and wasn’t thrilled about Mike or hearing him at all after what happen.
But I’m wondering if shes about to have doubts about Lucy being back, and begin to grow suspicion of this change up and haven’t seen, or likely even heard of Mike, for a while.

This is definitely a possibility, since we know what can happen when this much bitterness is left unchecked for such long periods of time. Yet I’m really hoping that this can be an eye-opener for them after they’re done letting everything out. After all, the chapter is called Accountability Buddy. And for a while, the accountability has been one-sided and not equally shared. So, we’ll see where it goes. Yet I honestly think it’s a good thing that Sue is choosing to match Lucy’s energy and meet her where she’s at currently. Instead of trying to pacify her, since I don’t think Lucy has yet to experience any of her friends doing that without intentionally trying to hurt her in the process.
Elmanii
Comment ID #253174
Yeah. Honestly they need to step up and call her out more. Showing her what shes been doing isn’t going to fly with them anymore.
Plus, I am REALLT hoping, despite all that happen with Mike, is if sue even going to be suspicious or care about how long it’s been since they last seen Mike after that incident. The fact they left the guild on their game for who know how long hasn’t send any alarm bells or how radio silent they have been.
Cause I’ll be honest, I am 100% PO at Lucy, August, and David for how that went down so much. Cause how does that justify or rectify anything.

I mean they were all to “blame” for getting them there in one way or another, surely, but at the end of the day an older guy came and tried to rob some kids so idk of it matters

If you reread the chapter the crazy part is Sue did the most to help that night. She got the two to stop fighting and get their heads together to figure a solution, she suggested finding a store to call for help (which was the smart thing back then), and during the fight she tried to negotiate at the start.

Hopefully this doesn’t escalate. As heated as it has gotten, it is good for both of them to get this out of their system. Just saying it, putting a face to it, makes it a much more tangible problem to work on resolving, hopefully as friends.

….oh! Hmmmm, to be fair Sue deserves to let out her grief on the situation too. She was put into a pretty scary place by those two and she’s also the one that got them out of it (by calling her mom)
