"The cake is a lie" joke is from a game called "Portal"
In the game (I'm not going to explain the whole story)
a robot named Glados gives you "tests" (look it up they're hard to explain) and she keeps saying how you are really good at the "tests" and that she will make you a cake.
Later in the game once you begin your escape, all over the walls in blood it says "THE CAKE IS A LIE" and then it has like a bunch of tally marks (which I think represents how many days the person who wrote them on the wall has been escaping?
Oh, wow. I got carried away. :/ I said this was gonna be a brief explanation but...
