People can grow, even people you don’t like, Sue.
Part of the series’ focus seems to be personal growth and how relationships change, especially at such a turbulent time.
Sue is understandably skeptical of Paulo after past encounters, but she has also been holding onto this image of him as good-for-nothing when we as readers know how much extra time he has been putting into being a fully-realized person.
Perhaps this is when perspectives change.

Yeah, this grudge has been going on for so long, Abbey has learned to hate Paulo, gotten into multiple physical fights, gone no contact, and managed to give him a chance and build a healthy road forward on speaking terms to reconcile, for the entire duration of Sue’s personal hang-ups about Paulo. It’s long overdue for these two to stop going at each-others throats, especially now that Sue is the one acting as instigator more often than Paulo in recent events.

I love Paulo’s expression in panel four. It’s a great mix of conveying that he absolutely understands why Abbey said no, is a little sad about it, but is also happy at the progress that *has* been made between them. Compare Abbey turning him down here to Abbey turning him down when Paulo asked to be his partner for volleyball in Time Out. Abbey no longer assumes Paulo inviting him to do something is a way to make fun of him or has an ulterior motive, he just thinks it’d be awkward. The end result is the same, Abbey turning him down, but the difference in why is SUCH a step forward for these two.

Abbey is a real one for not making an excuse for not going. Just keeping it simple. Then there is Sue here with… All of this. Really illustrates how much she has stagnated compared to a lot of the people in her friend group.

hopping into the comments for a rare take but: everyone dogpiling Sue is being so ridiculously harsh!! Sue is obviously being a prejudiced jerk here but the reason she’s so resentful of Paulo is because he’s bullied her relentlessly for most of the time she’s known him… it’s obvious why she doesn’t trust him to be honest or genuine with her, he’s used the same tactic to mock her in the past. and even now he’s just sort of demanding the tickets without bothering to talk to her like a person lmao

Right, I don’t really know why Sue should give him the tickets. He just kind of showed up and started demanding them. Like, he knows she doesn’t like him, so I don’t think he should be surprised that she’s not exactly jumping at the opportunity to do him a favor, and he’s not really giving her a reason here either.

Not entirely unfair to say. However… what could he possibly be bullying her for here. Like he pointed out, she seemed disinterested when he voiced his interest. So would he be making fun of her for… not wanting to go to a movie adaptation of a book? And why is Sue pushing back immediately and being stubborn about keeping tickets for a thing she doesn’t really care about? Like, yes, at the end of the day? Well within her rights to keep one of them. They were offered to her first by Amaya. But in that same vein? Amaya would be within her rights to give the other one to Paulo. No one is entitled to the tickets, and they’re Amaya’s to give out as she chooses.
Also, EVEN SUE has said that Paulo isn’t as bad as Abbey used to think. And now here we are, with Abbey and Paulo on speaking terms after getting to know him a bit better. My my, how the turntables.

I suspect it might be a bit jarring for some people because Sue was one of the people trying to get Abbey to believe Paulo’s not as bad as he thought he was. granted, “annoying asshole” is still a much nicer perception than “habitual womaniser who wants to steal my girlfriend for the sake of upping his body count”, but I could see people seeing that as an intention to lay off the guy that didn’t actually happen
