yknow it’s so crazy because ive been reading this series since like middle school, and while i was in college, i was obsessed with a guy who broke up with me when i moved away for school and i was begging for his attention, just like how mike was on sandy’s lead and chasing after her in turn. guy did something about a year ago that hurt me and came back in my life, just like mike and sandy… but in the time we were apart, i realized i’d really romanticized him as a person and i dont actually like him much at all. i loved the person who my mind had built him up to be, because i didnt have a lot of romantic experience. love watching these cats parallel my life experiences as i grow up (though if i went through all this in high school idk how i would have survived so godspeed mike)

Oof… seems like Mike is stuck in a corner. He now BELIEVES no one likes him and thinks all of his friends “chose” Lucy, and now the only person who he thinks will talk to him is the very person he feels obligated to talk to. Ooowww

Ugh, isolating yourself because your friends don’t support your relationship is… tough. It makes sense why he would, considering all the shit he got from them in middle school, but it’s also an example of him not speaking up until he explodes.
I specifically remember that scene with Daisy in the library, where she reassures him about his angry outbursts:
Daisy: Well there’s nothing wrong with being nice. You just gotta know when to stand up for yourself, you know?
Mike: When I do, I push everyone away.
Daisy: That’s because it’s after a long, LONG period of being way TOO nice! NEVER expressing yourself! You just have to be more upfront from the beginning! BEFORE everything gets so bad!
Mike needs to revisit this advice, and actually have a real conversation with Sandy about how he’s feeling. Then he needs to do the same with Paulo and Daisy, because they’ll absolutely understand and try to help him find a way forward.
Come on, Mike! Stand up for yourself!
