I wonder is this hinting to Matt finally coming out to his family about his sexuality. I mean not a lot of people besides Rachel seemed aware of it. I don’t know if his family knows, so maybe this is foreshadowing what will happen once he does come out to the people around him.
Just a guess, since I’ve seen people in similar situations do just that during their senior year of high school. ^_^
