If I recall Lucy was very hostile when she is getting hit on back then, I guess all of this sudden attention and affection from Mike might have made her felt confused and insecure. Either that or I am over analyzing this panel.

Ouch that really hurt. But it’s probably hurting Mike more than anybody right about now. Having the gall to actually finally do that and then getting rejected…

So the pieces all fall together. Mike’s harshness toward Lucy, despite his real feelings.
