Ohhhh, I get it. I’m probably just slow, but she’s sad since he isn’t even going to bother trying to surprise her (or so she thinks at this point at least). But Jesus, she looks terrible in final panel, and I don’t mean art wise.

Poor Lucy! Though being a guy, I wouldn’t be able to take what she dished out to he before. Though I’d confront her about feeling bad if she looked like it. Damn yew mike for not living up to everyone’s expectations!!!

Unfortunately, Mike can be justified as a jerk now. He has already said he knows she needs him. He isn’t even acknowledging her anymore. He most likely is aware just how broken up she is now. He just doesn’t care so much. Joy. The only way this could end well is if his surprise this year was going back to talking to her. That would be a big surprise to everyone, really.
