*A minivan speeds down the highway.*
Sue’s mom: So.. You SURE those two are fine, Susan?
*Sue’s mom turns back and frowns at the car’s passengers as she drives.*
Sue: Yeah! Like I said, they fight a lot.. we just had to break ’em up.
*Sue laughs and smiles. Bloodied tissues are wadded up in her nose. Behind them, Paulo and Daisy sit in their seats, nervously sweating.*
*Sue’s mom looks serious.*
Sue’s mom: I’ll have to speak to their mothers about that..
*Mike smiles cheerfully as he hugs Lucy. They are both in the back seat of the van. Lucy’s cheek is bandaged up. Alcohol bubbles are still visible around Mike’s head.*
Mike: Don’t worry Mrs. Sue. Lucy an’me are pals! We were just practishing our tae-kwon-do!
*Paulo and Daisy, seated in front of them, sweat even more intensely.*
*Sue’s mom glances back at them.*
Sue’s mom: There’s a time and a place, and it’s not out here.
Mike: SHHH!!
Sue’s mom: Ngh, why bother..
*Mike smiles sweetly and nuzzles his face against Lucy.*
Lucy: Jerk face GET OFF
*Lucy blushes, looking annoyed in Mike’s embrace.*
*Paulo looks over at Daisy, who is teary-eyed.*
Paulo: Are you okay, Daisy?
*Daisy presses her lips into a thin frown.*
Daisy: I.. I was wrong..
Daisy: Even after all I said, Lucy was the one who stepped up while I just cowered.. She was stronger than I’ll ever be..
*Daisy traces a hand over her arm, looking vulnerable.*
Paulo: Daisy, stop.
*Daisy looks to Paulo, clasping a hand to her chest. Paulo turns to her with a reassuring smile.*
Paulo: We were all scared out there. I mean, even I got scared tonight, you know?
*Mike, in the background, kisses Lucy on the cheek as she pouts.*
Paulo: What matters most is that you’re safe.
*Paulo looks at Daisy tenderly.*
*Daisy wipes her face with her hand.*
Paulo: You don’t have to prove yourself to us. We’re all strong in different ways, right?
Daisy: Thanks, Paulo..
*She smiles back, comforted by his words.*
