Ohhhh here we goooo! Mike snaps back. Wonder if Gus will tell him he’s the one who found her. What’s Lucy gonna do >¬< yikes

I think that is what is going to happen, and it is either going to break Mike, or it will basically destroy his friendship with James (which would break Mike)

Ah, good- we have a possibility of Mike not being relegated to a character that exists to be tortured.

so, to be clear, Augustus is very obviously not doing the right thing here. he’s working on a bunch of wrong assumptions and has outed information that’s completely inappropriate to out to a stranger. but stopping two people who you know can not safely be near each other from interacting is not a bad thing. Mike’s also pretty aware that, even if he doesn’t know what exactly it is, Augustus does have some kind of relationship to what’s going on (he knows Lucy and Augustus are close, it’s normal for friends to have an interest in their friends’ well-being), so saying it’s none of his business is just a meaningless deflection
the main issue with Aug’s reasoning is that they weren’t interacting

I agree
And while it’s time he confronts it, this is so much the wrong way to go about this
Even if it’s now fully out in the open, this is going to cause permanent damage on both sides.
Not to mention what I find disgusting is he literally just outed Lucy on her medical history, IN PUBLIC
August may care, but he doesn’t care about the collateral damage he’s causing and the consequences that will soon follow

Oh this is great, nobody knows the connection between Augustus

Lucy’s gone from restraining Augustus to holding onto him for reassurance when she usually hates people touching her. My children are adorable.

“Why is this any of your business?”
You know, I just happened to be there during her attempt and saved her life and now in return I have been invited to live with her family so that I can attend school, keep my grades up and potentially open the doors to a better life, and we’ve become best friends during that time.
Idk, the Why eludes me, Michael.

Super senior Augustus inserting himself into junior drama… boy if you don’t start hanging out with people your own age 🥴
sadboy
Comment ID #32992
It’s not just Junior Drama. He lives with Lucy and her family now. This is his one golden chance to graduate highschool away from Alej’s influence. To live in a house with an actual bed and get three meals a day, where he doesn’t have to steal. A lot of that hinges on Lucy’s mental well-being. He’s only being allowed to stay currently because he’s being seen as a god-send to Lucy. Mike doing the whole “break up with Sandy and now I’m gonna rebound on you Lucy” really has caused her to plummet as of late and he’s over it.

It’s fully normal behavior to be a high schooler involved in social interactions of high schoolers? They all have relatively the same maturity level and life experience?
Potat-Dragon
Comment ID #32996
@Potat, yeah because a guy who should be in college and a 16 year old totally have the same maturity and life experience…

Everybody is talking about Mike, Lucy, Augustus and James, but I’m just wondering what David is thinking about all of this. He’s not chiming in with a stupid remark like he usually does, it’s unusual to see him actually taking something serious for a change. His face, or moreso his eyes, being deliberately omitted in this page as well as the previous one (which going by pattern recognition means that the character is deep in thought) makes me think he has his own nuanced thoughts on the matter and I’m really interested to hear from his perspective.

I think the reason why Lucy didn’t really stop Gus from talking is because honestly she wanted some closure, some retribution. Her expression kind of tells me that. hmmm

Comment ID #33004
Yeah, I also think something is up with Lucy in this. She had enough frames to stop Augy from talking.
WitchDoll
Comment ID #33005
She has grown confident enough to realize she didn’t deserve to be treated that way. I think her passively allowing her friend to defend her is her just accepting she is someone worthy of being defended and is a sign of self worth forming. Shes not perfect but she’s faced consequences and evolved from them, Mike has not.

So many emotions swirling around. To be honest this all seems like a chain reaction of crappiness spurred on by Mike’s previous inaction and spinelessness and Lucy’s general…awfulness to be around, I guess, that makes it hard to blame either one specifically.

Mike has been the Larry Bird of bad decisions lately in the story, sinking shots from the free throw line like it’s his job or something. But still, I look at Lucy and I only see half a victim, the other half is a bipolar bully who has been pretty shitty to people in general. Ultimately this feels a little Scott Pilgrim-ish with Mike being the obviously-crappy focal point.

Comment ID #33009
It’s really telling actually that in the half of Lucy you apparently consider unworthy of compassion you literally described her not just as a bully but as having a mental health condition that effects stability. Bullying is one thing but I urge you to examine why you don’t think people who struggle with bipolar disorder don’t deserve your respect or sympathy.

Sorry if that irked you. Since this is online, you can only say so much in one breath. And I sympathize with them both, but I dislike Mike for not accounting for his emotional cowardice and I think Lucy has been growing more responsible, but has a history of acting with violence and not being particularly sorry about it. She is written as a person, but also this is with a soap opera lens and the character interactions are writ large thanks to the setting and age of its characters. She is more than her violent turns, but she has done a shit job of owning up to it in a fashion that plays as a great foil to Mike’s hiding behind facades and being afraid of the truth of his past transgressions. Hope that helps!

I also see Lucy this way and always have. She feels like the only character “allowed” to be a victim. Are we just forgetting Mike constantly had to reassure her feelings and felt like he was always walking on glass around her?
