Like studying isn’t hard work, because good grades aren’t earned?

I mean she agrees that studying is hard work because he’s constantly busy with it and that she isn’t good academically, that’s why she pours herself so much into her modeling. She just wishes that it COULD be easy and she could get best of both worlds.

Maybe I misread it but it felt to me like she was saying “you are lucky cause studying comes so easy to you.” But sometimes when you start disliking a character you start seeing demons in every corner so that’s my bad.

man, first he’s not listening, now he’s gonna smell like wet cat. 3 pages in and everything’s already going bad for him

Oh, poor Sandy. Let me play the world’s smallest violin for you…

As someone who came into the comic relatively late (at the start of the current in-universe school year), was Sandy ever actually all that likable?

In my opinion, no. Not even as a young child. She had very little personality as a child and as she grew she became a ‘me me me’ person

ehhh… she was more… sympathetic; up until the point she yelled at Mike.

Yeah pretty much what Yellow said. I feel for her, because it’s clear a lot of her life was stolen away from her by her mother dragging her into the modeling industry as a kid, likely living vicariously through her daughter. But despite Sandy having her own issues, she’s just not good for Mike, and never really has been, especially now that she’s taken all the wrong lessons from the modeling industry.

It’s like in BoJack Horseman. There may be reasons she acts the way she does, but it doesn’t excuse her actions.

From when I started she has very much been all take and no give. Sure, IIRC she “gave” in the past: small presents (she gave him one of his scarves, right?), and she tried to give advice back when he was getting picked on by Lucy (albeit with poor timing and disastrous results.)

But in the last five years or so (our time), the only thing she has “given up” for the relationship is to stop seeing her side piece, which, unless your relationship is open, is the bare minimum you can do.

As we have seen in the last few pages, even her being more “attentive” just entails her blathering about herself, rather than the radio silence she was giving Mike before

I just hope this is leading to Mike breaking up with her, and not returning the favor and cheating himself, or trying to hurt himself (although all three options could make for good storytelling IMO)

Yeah! You pretty much hit the nail on the head. (Also “with poor timing and disastrous results” is such an understatement😂)

Hard to say because she was never really around. Almost everything we knew about her came second-hand from Mike. I did root for their relationship at first, back when Lucy was being rather toxic and his other friends were pestering him about his “imaginary” girlfriend. She also seemed very understanding of Mike’s drama with Lucy and even encouraged them to be friends and for him not to wish harmful things on Lucy. So for that, I felt it was a positive relationship. However; when she began ghosting, it became very apparent that Sandy had long outgrown this relationship but didn’t want to feel like the villian (hence the ghosting) and was hoping either Mike would officially break up or they’d grow apart and maybe he’d forget about her.

That part was odd to me because for someone who always wants to act so “adult” it was such an immature and childish thing to do, and made it obvious she wasn’t as adult as she kept pretending to be. I guess she was more of a mystery everyone wanted to know more about but the more we got to know her, the mystery faded into vapidness.

It’s interesting that in both Second String and now this chapter, Chris is the only thing that makes him genuinely smile. It’s most likely just meant to be cute sibling bonding moments (lord he’s not going to get those with Haley) to add some much needed levity to these recent downer chapters, but it would be interesting if Chris of all characters fills the role that Sandy once had and James briefly had of being his moral compass.
