Well, while this chapter did have its ups and downs. We can’t say it didn’t keep us engaged. Also, at least it ended on a slightly lighter note. A lot definitely happened, and we’ll have to wait and see what future chapters have in store for us after the ripples we witnessed in this chapter. Yet, at least someone was happy in the end, and that’s as good as it’s going to get for now.

At first I was surprised that she looks so unhappy with Paulo still. But reading back through the chapter, after David was telling her how they’d all want her back and be happy… Paulo didn’t even say HELLO to her or acknowledge her at all. He just asked David why she’s back, and then immediately was worried about Mike and tried to leave. And I get why he was; he’s a good friend and is concerned!
But this was only a few weeks after his “Double Down” line, and when Lucy finally got back after everything that’s happened, she gets ignored by the guy pledging his loyalty to her less than a month ago, in favor of the person he said he’s willing to drop to support her? I can get why that would sting - I don’t agree with her reaction here, but I definitely understand it.

Yeah but she is being a hypocrite because she told him she didn’t want him to do that in double down and now she suddenly is emotionally manipulating him. He doesn’t owe her anything. She made it clear he meant nothing to her over and over again.

This seems like a bright note but I’m worried for both Mike and Lucy now. I wonder if her checking up on Augustus looking happy means that’s a strong factor in her choosing to dig her heels in back at this table now and assert her ‘line in the sand’. I wonder if after seeing how far into old habits Augustus seemed to slip if Lucy feels he needs some distance from her and her problems so they don’t start getting to him and causing him to act up when he’s been doing so much better…

Surprisingly heartwarming ending for an extremely dire chapter. Holy shit, it was impressive how this one chapter singlehandedly divided the BCB fandom (and characters in universe) within the span of only 44 pages! Praying that the next chapter is far more lighthearted in tone (senior group trip to the mall!) because I’m scared to see how heated things can get if the next chapter is equally as tense.

There was several times where I actually got a little anxious to open the link to the next page and see how things could get worse xD Not even Eternal Flame got me to that stage so I think that’s a testament to just how well-written this chapter was if I got that invested.

Yeah, this is going to lead to Mike jumping, isn’t it? But since he is the type of guy to cover a gaping wound with a bandage, he isn’t going to outright tell anyone he is suffering, and noone will really know what is going on inside his head till after he jumps. There is only so much left of him that can be peeled away, you are left wondering what will cause the point of no return. I just hope the next chapter is on a lighter tone after this.

If I had to guess, it’ll probably be Sandy saying things aren’t working out after realizing Mike is basically checked out of the relationship. Sandy’s basically the only one that Mike has left outside of family, and he’s not really close to his family, so…

I feel like you are right. Sandy would likely be the final straw for Mike. Either her wanting to end the relationship because Mike has been checking out of it or her possibly revealing she never kept her word and continued to be with that one guy, who’s name I can’t remember off the top of my head.

This whole chapter feels like an inversion of December. So if/when Mike’s Curtain Call comes… I’m curious to see if Lucy will feel the same level of guilt for having a hand in pushing Mike to that point, especially after having gone through it herself. (because I really, REALLY hope that isn’t her end goal)

This is quite a warm sight to see after everything else. Glad the chapter ends on a light side, Lucy doesn’t seem too pleased about Paulo switching up so fast, but seeing Augustus smiling seems like it was worth the risk. As for Mike ouch, although all was said and done, I still got hope for my boys redemption arc and he coming back strong, on bro!

Still, I’m genuinely happy for Augustus. And maybe hanging with the peeps in his grade will make him and Lucy less codependent on each other.

Not sure if I’m just seeing things, but Augustus seems to be clothing-coded.
If he’s doing something benign, or building good character, like taking the SATs, hanging out with the seniors, or sitting with Lucy on New Year’s Eve, for example, he’s wearing Jordan’s clothes.
If he’s his brand of neutral, like telling Lucy he loves her, talking to Lucy’s mom at breakfast before school, or requesting Mike not go outside, he has his collar and black shirt on (or black hoodie, when talking to Mike in “First Degree Burn”).
If he goes Full Augustus, like when he first talks to Mike in “Burnt Bridges”, as he see him angry about Mike in “Seeing Stars”, or using his old self to torment Mike like today, he’s got his full leather jacket ensamble on.
I like thinking Vero’s thrown that little subtle touch into him.

Lucy blaming Mike for leading her on which not only isn’t true or atleast heavily twisted if you go back and read what actually happened but also wild of her to say after leading Paulo on so much worse
Sue who was such an expert in calling out being vindictive and now is totally fine with letting Mike suffer so she can bend over backwards again for a girl that has never given anything in return for her.
James being upset at Mike for alledgedly leading someone on while he, knowing fully well Mike had a girlfriend kissed him hoping to “change his mind”
And Paulo most surprising of all was literaly stabbed by the word hypocrit the day he made that promise and still decided to follow through with it
Obviously teenage cats, they can learn to be better then this but hell if their behaviour isn’t horrible right now

Succinctly put. I like this comic, but Lucy and Mike being the focal point also means their drama is the loudest.
I don’t think anyone who has ever been a teen didn’t make some stupid decisions; it’s the grace to pick yourself up and be a better friend to both your peers and yourself that makes you grow.
