That just occurred to me. Possible scenarios: 1. This might actually help Mike and Lucy reconcile (doubtful). 2. Mike will be so guilty about everything that he’ll just leave. 3. James will isolate him until Mike either leaves or is outright kicked out (most likely for me.)

I’m guessing scenario 3. James will give Mike a hint that he’s not welcome. Maybe Paisy or the rest of the track team will speak on his behalf.
I do know this: if Lucy goes back to the cafeteria and joins the track team, Mike won’t have anyone left.
(sigh) With each passing chapter, I fear the worst-case scenario: that Mike will do the same thing Lucy did.

@Rocky Wolfknight To be fair though, it’s not like he got Properly introduced to her under normal circumstances, even if he’s overheard her name a few times now. I think him sticking with the “arcade girl” nickname makes sense for him in the moment as this is the very start of them really knowing each other, and that’s the only experience he’s had being around her previously. Plus I think he means it in a more lighthearted sense here, rather than completely avoiding her name entirely; I’m sure at some point we’ll see him refer to her by her name, if they’re gonna be around each other more often

I PERSONALLY read this more like James is expressing an interest in Lucy because of how much David gushes over her. If David likes her and reacts this way to her praise, she must be worth liking, right? That sorta mentality. And running really is a main hobby for James, so why not try to bond over that? Even if, for some reason, James tried to get her to join track, would she even be on the same team as him and the others? I don’t know if Roseville High does co-ed groups, but the track team we’ve seen so far is entirely male.

I think I see it similarly! My first thought was admittedly that he might be trying to recruit her (if possible), but considering he just kind of learned about her upsetting history w Mike, I also wouldn’t rule out the idea that he’s just trying to be nice! (Even if it just so happens to be a thing he is known for inviting people to LMAO) But also it does seem like they can connect on that, which is a good starting point for a new friendship!

Honestly kind of really liking the vibe between James and Lucy, the little bit of banter in this page is really cute… Who knows if that’ll always be the case, but for the two of them only having 1 (? iirc) interaction previously, it’s nice to see that things aren’t like crazy tense between them or anything. (Also!! For Lucy pretty much Just getting acquainted with someone, it really does make me a little happy to see her being friendly and not distant like she’s been in the past)
