In “Third Wheel”, it looks like Lucy and Paulo have a fine conversation in the hall, so I think things are cooling down especially as he now knows Lucy only came to Burger-tron so he and Daisy could see each other. So I’m cautiously optimistic

I might be wrong, but I’m banking on James being fickle enough that he’d just awkwardly accept an apology. Like, if David doesn’t seem to care, I don’t care either! I’m super curious what Mike is going to say here though. Sorry for bringing this drama to you? Sorry for following you around, hoping you’d crush on me again knowing I’ll never return it? …Or is he going to try to bury himself more, try to explain or justify himself? I hope what Mike says is an apology. I’m glad Lucy is being shown happy and that she is wanting to join the circle again!! Although I’m still on edge things are that easy?? I mean Paulo is on thin ice with Augustus and dunno how daisy still feels about him as well. On top of that, pretty sure they’ll be confused as to why David and James are back inside and along with them is Lucy and Augustus while Mike stays out. But this hopefully now leaves mike to start self reflecting and hopefully seeks proper help to sort himself out.

I know he needs to reflect, but, genuinely, just breaking up with Sandy would go a long way for him. The reason he hangs on people who he can string along is because he wants to feel wanted and he doesn’t get that from Sandy. She’s always off in her own little world.

Oh for sure him breaking ties with sandy will be a first step to ease his mind a little more. Although knowing how Mike is still with trying to be the pleaser for everyone doesn’t look like he’ll do that anytime soon until he snaps to reality of his relationship with sandy is just one-sided… unless he and her actually start talking more about the deal that they both struggled as a couple they are better off single, especially Mike who needs to reflect a lot.

I hope that he can remember that he can talk to his other friends (Paulo, Daisy, Sue, Jessica, Rachel) from that table after school and that he doesn’t need to be at the table to still be friends with them, he just needs to make sure that Lucy isn’t there.

I really like how Mike and Lucy are at opposite points in their character arcs; Lucy’s accepting help from others, trying to re-join the group and actively working to improve the lives of her friends while Mike has been more and more isolated, defensive and self-pitying. It’s like Mike’s more bitter while Lucy’s becoming more sweet. Hmm…

I’m gonna eat my computer if this does turn out to be just a nightmare Mike is having to parallel Lucy’s own nightmare like someone theorized on the last post. If it is, does he actually still physically fear Lucy hurting him? That’s legit super concerning if it’s literally nightmare fuel for him. there’s something pretty poetic about how Mike accused Lucy of leading him on, when he himself was the one doing that. with Lucy, and daisy, and sandy, and e even Paulo…..
but now he’s being on the receiving end of someone ACTUALLY having flash in the pan infatuation with him. James flip flops between every cute boy he so much as LOOKS at. first Paulo, then Mike, now David…
and he’s now realizing how DEVASTATING that is. I wonder if it’ll make him reflect at all on how he did that same thing to almost all of his close friends for most of their lives. somehow i sort of doubt it, given how he always seems to wallow in self pity uselessly or refuse all personal responsibility whatsoever with no in between, but I still think its a very poetic and interesting narrative parallel!!!!

I still think he’s a good kid at heart and root for him to get better, but like sadboy I got nothing to really say here. Most I can say is that I’m not a fan of how a lot of people aren’t willing to give him a shred of sympathy even as we watch him get closer and closer to the edge. Both metaphorically and eventually literally (probably). That or when they give the tone-deaf “Ah! The kid who is insecure about being alone and everyone leaving him just had everyone leave him! Great! Now he can work on himself! :)”, like ???

@Washington, What’s so funny is that THREE YEARS AGO I made a series of Tumblr posts regarding the treatment surrounding Mike and how you couldn’t express interest in him as a character anymore without people immediately wishing harm on him/telling him to grow up. That there’s been times in the comic where Mike has expressed frustration at being the group punching bag (Rachel’s party, where he tells them all what a joke he feels around them) and that he feels stuck and somehow we are STILL here! Always a Mike luvr forever, even if I can’t defend him constantly.
