i think daisy will always have lingering feelings for Mike because he was her first crush, and she has so many memories and issues tied with him - but i think she does love Abbey.
However, look how much that hurt Abbey - Abbey actually drank because he felt that hurt. Sad times :(

I… I just… … am speechless?

The character I dislike the most is Daisy, because I feel that she is a bit hypocrite and superficial. I mean, she seemed to be sad and angry about Lucy’s disappearing, then she says Lucy was “sorta friend” of hers. Yet this page… Maybe Daisy still likes a Mike a… lot-bit? But she is loyal… (though in Taeshi’s spring she said Daisy is the one most likely to cheat). Again, that’s why I love this comic: surprises, sides and changes everywhere!

Oh well… I hope Abbey won’t drink more. Yet, he didn’t deserved this…

Nice page, like always.

Oh Abbey…. Although I don’t normally like him nor hate him (you could say I neutrally like him) but this really is too much to handle now. Abbey, who specifically tried to avoid drinking in the beginning, had resorted to drink because of this. In all honesty, I have a LOT more sympathy towards Abbey than Mike now.

sick of people saying “Mike deserves it”

the amount of people on the page before last saying “Oh poor mike, it must be so hard coming from a perfect home with a loving family…”

You know who else has a good home life, a loving family, and friends who are willing to support her?

The difference is Lucy CHOSE to act like a selfish, abusive, spoilt ******* for 10 years to EVERYONE because she was ignored in kindergarten.

Even after Mike risked his life to save her from a rapist in confrontation, after he took a fall to save her life in acapulco, after Daisy threw her a birthday party and invited all her friends, after everything.

Lucy is not a special pretty snowflake, she’s a knob.

Its a shame… Both Mike and Lucy were on flexing ends of affection, but Mike was obligated to stay with Sandy due to monogamy-related ethics. Lucy was left unrequited, and Mike stood headfirst to protect his well-followed morals, but ended up hurting Lucy severely. I know that would more than bruise anyone who has a soft spot for someone they know, but just can’t be there for them how the other might need them to…

Its quite an emotional toll, and Mike doesn’t deserve that. No one deserves that u-u..

Betting Abbey’s not a lightweight like the rest of them.

At least Mike is finally being honest with himself. Hopefully we’ll see him try to make amends, and not just return to his usual self when he sobers up.

Also, lost a lot of respect for Daisy. Make up your goddamn mind, girl. First you slobber all over Mike with your boyfriend watching, then you ditch him just as he starts to get visibly emotional. Absolutely disgusting. I mean, you’ve had what, one beer?

The difference between Mike and Lucy, is Lucy was changing through the support of her friends. Mike simply got worse as a person as time went on.

I think the main issue that separates them is Lucy’s obvious depression issues. None of her concerns were rational, and all the other symptoms she was showing were tell tale for depression. She was also fully dependent on Mike’s attention as her sole source of comfort, and he spit on her. This spiraled things until it got where it was and she attempted suicide.

Mike really didn’t have anything emotionally wrong until he treated Lucy the way he did and realized he was wrong. Everything else in his life was dandy. If he had wanted Lucy gone if he found her that awful, he shouldn’t have been hanging around her. Period. I don’t like this whole, lets pretend that Mike didn’t have a choice in the matter of their friendship.

LMAO XD Abbey what the heck and I don’t think he’s going to get drunk or even buzzed from that one “sip” guys. I don’t know why I just don’t feel bad for him, I know I should but I just can’t she hasn’t really done anything wrong to me I feel like he’s overreacting. She comforted Mike when he felt alone, asked a question that was bound to be asked (or imho she should have asked so she could get over it and let go), and she ran back to comfort Abbey when he seemed upset. I’ve been there and honestly I did feel kinda bad but I felt more like the person should ask and get over that kinda thing before we tried moving forward in our relationship so I dunno, maybe I’m not a overly jealous person and he is?

And thats right Mike let the tears out, and once you sober up find Lucy and apologize or do something positive about it. I just hope they don’t all slump into depression and fall apart or something. And wait hold up….. are they sleeping over? >__> Paulo may be able to sneak in butttt yeah the rest of them are probably dead if they go home like this.

Oceanus92 November 26, 2013, 1:27 PM EST.

Comment ID #268059

@DaveOtow - And I think you’re crazy. Maybe he might’ve considered it if she’d stayed with Mike regardless of what he did no matter how crazy and stupid, but she left a sobbing Mike to tend to Abbey when he took one swig of a drink. That’s grounds for NOT dumping. That’s showing where her true loyalties lie. Of course, it could lead to Mike breaking down without any support…

Also, comment peoples, I think we had a time-lapse and the party already passed. Notice the lack of older kids? They’ve had more than one drink in that time.

Wat November 26, 2013, 1:34 PM EST.

Comment ID #268061

I almost get the feeling this chapter is more to show a downward decline with daisy and abbey’s relationship more so than the reveal from mike

@ Samm-e

The thing is, she’s pouring out her feelings for Mike in front of her current boyfriend with no regard for it (drunk or not). This makes it obvious she always has those feelings for him, deep down. Paulo had this during the New Years when he decided to break up with Jasmine because he didn’t think it was right to be with her when he knew deep down he wanted to be with Lucy “I just don’t think it’s fair to be thinking about someone else when I’m with you, ya know?”

Daisy is doing the same thing as Paulo but instead is trying to convince herself that Abbey is ‘good enough’ if she can’t have Mike and that’s the problem.

another Anon November 26, 2013, 1:36 PM EST.

Comment ID #268062

Abbey doesn’t seem to like beer does he. Daisy probably doesn’t want him to drink knowing a bit about his family history.

I wonder if the support that Daisy was giving Mike by holding he was keeping him from breaking down like he has, it showed the reflection where he said everyone would abandon Lucy and having Daisy let go of him made it seem if the only person who was siding with him has abandoned him.

Rachael seems like she feels sorry for Mike and the situation he is in.

I think its safe to say that lucy and mike will never be together. Also, i think that it might test abbey’s character to see what happends when daisy leaves him, (or he leaves daisy) i see it coming. Is pucy ever showes up again i think she will turn to the perisan guy for friendship, buuuut every one will be worryed about lucy so they’ll bother the persian guy which will test his charcter. I think my most solid theory is that Paulo and the persian guy will get in an acually several page fight over whats right for lucy, which will drive her away. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!

I wanted to blame Paulo for bringing alcohol to people that clearly can’t handle it and therefore causing all of this drama, but then I realized that Rachel asked someone to pick up drinks anyway, so this all probably would have happened regardless.

Wouldn’t it be funny if that person walked in at the end of the chapter with a case of drinks all like, “LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!” only to find a bunch of depressed sophomores and one unhappy birthday girl?

Thats only sorta true, Jasmine did not know he was in love with Lucy or someone else (she knew he’d slept around and gotten himself into trouble which actually is worse since she knew so little about what was going on she just jumped into the relationship), Abbey straight up KNEW she was in love with Mike and that she was not at ALL over it. Plus Mike is taken, Daisy has no chance and she knows she has no chance and from what we’ve seen so far is not trying to force it anymore. She just asked a question which thought tackly done she very well may have needed to know to finally let go. I think the real problem is Abbey’s jealously, if you are going into a situation with your eyes open why close them and pretend the situation has changed or no longer exists? She never got over her feelings and never really had a sense of closure with the situation so this was bound to come up at some point or another. It does not mean shes going to cheat, but its not a good or healthy situation to be in. They both seem to care about each other a lot so maybe now she can honestly move on. Plus with Paulo him and Lucy had finally started becoming closer, she was still available and she seemed like she needed someone she hadn’t flat out rejected him yet.

Samm-y November 26, 2013, 1:55 PM EST.

Comment ID #268073

@EvilKitty3: you can’t control how you feel about that. Abbey just saw his girlfriend hugging Mike and asking him why he never loved her. And Abbey knows she did love him. Is it so far-fetched to think she still loves Mike more than him?

Comment ID #268102

Ugh. Don’t know if i should be glad or sad. Everyone ended up unhappy tonight, especially Mike and Abbey. But truths were said, and everyone learned something. I think that I’m in favor of truth over emotional coddling. It’s a good thing that everyone knows the truth now: a wound must be cleaned before it heals. Now Daisy is going to get a talking-to about her behavior. Hopefully, her tactlessness will cease, and she will be more aware of her surroundings. No more hurting people by blundering around in mindless chaos.
And, now, Mike has started on the path to redemption. Previously, I was mad at him. Not for December, but for what came after. He never really realized that he did wrong. I think he was denying his own guilt and holding it back. That’s a terrible thing, because if he has no guilt, he has no conscience, and there is nothing to stop him from doing more bad things. Telling the truth to others has made him tell it to himself. It’s going to hurt a lot, and once he realizes what he did, he might have a breakdown. A huge mental one (like the size of Lucy’s). Someone needs to be there for him during that, and I don’t know who that will be. It’s going to be hard for him to forgive himself. I want to go in there, give him a big hug, and say “I forgive you”. But that’s going to have to be someone else. Maybe Lucy?

I feel bad for Mike, but honestly, he deserved it. Not in a “He’s a jerkwad” way. In a “He needs to face reality and see what he had a hand in causing.” way. Those tears? Just what the doctor ordered….for all of them. If he kept denying he did anything wrong, it was gonna eat him alive inside, ya know? The fact he’s crying means he can accept it, and eventually move on……I think I’ve been hanging out with my therapist-in-training friend/watching too much Dr. Phil….

Yeah, I agree with you. Lucy definitely has some legitimate mental health issues, and I hope she’s going to try to get those treated and that’s where she is. Mike is just sort of responding to stress with an ever spiraling tower of douche. He’s not evil, but…

EDIT: I just want to clarify that I’m not saying that Mike doesn’t have legitimate issues or a right to his feelings. I’m saying the way he’s acting on those issues and feelings is completely inappropriate and he’s really got no excuse for that.

The person dragging these comments into personal issues is you right now. Please try to keep it classy, and if someone gets personal, that’s not an excuse to reply that way.

I’ve considered the genderswap question, and my answer actually remains the same. Neither Mike or Lucy is perfect, they’re obviously not helping each other at all, but Lucy seems to be the one with actual mental health issues that she needs to get dealt with, and the one who was actually changing for the better and maturing before everything fell apart. I’d feel the same if the issue was about Michelle and Lucius.

Mike, I hate to say it, but you losing it at Lucy in December has caused you to have this emotional backlash. You did bring some of this on yourself. Yes, Lucy was violent and did hit you and laugh at you, but you should have asked her to stop in the first place. That would have either made her stop, or make her not quite as violent. It is both their faults. Lucy shouldn’t have made everyone miserable for deserting her, and Mike shouldn’t have been a total dick. So, it isn’t all Mike’s fault, nor all Lucy’s.

SCIENCE! November 26, 2013, 5:57 PM EST.

I never got that argument. The whole “mike should have just told her to stop”. Let’s see in this timeline it took Mike nearly dying and the beach dude telling her what’s up for her to finally try and change. Do you guys really think Mike telling her to “stop it” would really have worked? Especially in middle school when Paulo was a part of a group and just a few pages back barely came short of calling Mike a wuss. I’d think that’d be a no, all it would have resulted in is Lucy getting depressed and Paulo jumping his case for “being a wuss” or “not being a man”. There would have been no change, mostly because she was a bit of a hard head and was in an environment that would have encouraged her behavior even if Mike had said something.

Alright friends, lemme give you a few reasons why i will always love and defend Daisy as a character in this webcomic.

1) She is a sweet kid. She’s this girl who’s kind of a late bloomer, all her friends attempt to baby her but she’s still caught up in all their issues all the while dealing with her insecurities (AS WELL AS HER BOYFRIENDS ISSUES) and she’s expected to be this bucket of sunshine all the time and you know what? that can get frustrating, and she deserves to take a break from it all.

2) she’s with a dude she’s had a massive crush on for /years/ and you know, she may not be into him anymore, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care for him and his wellbeing. And yeah, she asked why he picked Lucy over her, you know why? because she’s drunk. Kids get drunk sometimes, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m sure a good amount of you are starting to go through your crazy party years and have been in Daisy’s shoes at one point.

3) Daisy is not a hypocrite when it comes to Lucy. Lucy treated Daisy like a complete nuisance for the longest time, and even though it shows through that she occasionally cares about Daisy, she doesn’t do much to show it. In Daisy’s eyes, it’s more than obvious that Lucy would be a ‘sort of’ friend, as Lucy hasn’t really done much to prove otherwise.

4) You know what? yeah, it sucks. Daisy’s displaying some affection to her old flame in front of her boyfriend. People make mistakes, is that any reason to hate her? No one seemed to hate Lucy when she rebounded with Paulo right after confessing her love to Mike.

5) Finally, you know why Daisy doesn’t want Abby drinking? Because drinking + emotional/mental instability = major f*cking issues. Daisy’s been to the therapy sessions, Abbey’s probably told her about them. She knows her **** and she’s just trying to prevent him from damaging himself any further. Daisy and the others drank for fun, Abbey’s doing it to drown away his sorrows. There’s a difference.

TL;DR don’t hate on Daisy because she absolutely does not deserve it anymore than mike or Lucy might deserve it.

I like Daisy, and I think that she wants to be a good person. She is sweet, and kind. She definitely helped Abbey, and has served as a motivator for Paulo to be good. Her intelligence and innocence really make her shine. She definitely doubts herself too much.

However. Daisy has done some things that make me disappointed in her. For all of her intelligence, she is not wise. We have seen a critical lack of tact in her actions multiple times. She has brought together and bothered people who should really have been left alone. She often smashes people together and expects them to get along, or makes decisions that hurt others. Her continual inability to see things from other people’s perspective worries me. Most of the characters lack perspective, but she has it the worst. She needs to learn it fast if she wants to stop hurting people.

@ Suitcase
What parts of the comic are relevant to the current part? It seems silly to bring things up from long ago if they don’t apply. Is there a general guideline for when things started to get serious, or are all parts valid? Just want a pointer.

I was a little too vague. I meant comic-wise. Is there a certain point after which the comics get serious, or are they all equally valid when used in an argument? It’s annoying when someone tells you that your argument is invalid with regard to the present day comics. Is there any point at which the comics afterward are all serious, or are all of them equally usable and equally valid?

Or do you two want to keep that to yourself?

And if you were talking about the other question I had, I was asking if it was OK to post one of my old comments again, because it was ignored. Or should I re-write it?

@ Ariel

I have seen some people refer to parts in the beginning of the comic as invalid evidence. Mostly it has to do with less seriousness in the plot and interactions between characters. Wounds disappear, both physical and psychological. I think that all parts of the comic are valid, but I was hoping that the creators would clarify. It makes it easier to be informed.

Mike was justifiably angry, but what he did was not justified. I can understand why he did it, but that does not make it right. Also, it was not really after “years”. In fact he only got bothered by it after the situation finished. Lucy realized that she had been acting wrong and tried to fix her act. At the same time that she did that, he realized that she had been mistreating him. Her efforts to be honest angered him even more, and he snapped under what he considered as an attack. To her, it felt like she had not done enough, and that she could not make up for her past mistakes. So he walked away feeling justified, and she walked away hating herself. And he just realized. Now what he needs is an embrace, and someone to say “I forgive you”. I feel so bad that I can’t do it for him. But that’s going to have to be someone else.

“Earlier chapters are reliable, sure. It’s all canon.”

Thus why I have to constantly roll new theories out. To try, figure out, and explain (from my perspective) how they fit into the canon of the story especially when it stepped from silly slapstick to “real” world drama.

Also while we are on the subject @suitcase, since you’re doing a bit of Q&A AskBCB, how much should be considered canon (for instance I really don’t think Lucy’s dad is a race car driver)?

It’s a good thing that Mike is putting himself in Lucy’s shoes for what he put her through, not for the general Mike vs Lucy / Mike + Lucy fanbase, but for the exploration of Mike’ entire character through empathy.

Christine November 26, 2013, 10:14 PM EST.

Kind of doubt it, Abbey’s reaction to his first taste of beer pretty much says it. He didn’t like the taste of it and will probably stay away from it (well at least till he’s older and some frat boy buddy talks him into the hard stuff). But yeah generally the first impression (taste) will determine whether the kid will keep drinking or not.

I’d like it if this page finally sledgehammers the point to some folks I’ve been trying to make for a while that Mike has felt guilty for a while now. Not holding out hope though, this is the same group of people who started calling Daisy a cheater because she supported Mike.

buchanen_neket November 26, 2013, 10:17 PM EST.

Comment ID #268198

I kinda hope so, because Mike needs to be forgiven by her personally. I think that she is going to stay away for more time though. Taishi wants to spend more time on other characters. Plus Mike needs to sulk a bit for the Laws of Drama to be fulfilled.

Lordofrye November 26, 2013, 10:24 PM EST.

Comment ID #268199

Depends what you mean by guilty. He probably felt guilty for yelling at her, but that’s not what really matters. Right now, he just (finally) felt empathy. One never really learns from doing something wrong until one understands what one did to the wronged person. Now he feels the guilt of making her hate herself. It needed to happen, but it will hurt a lot more than the mental slap on the wrist he gave himself earlier.

That. is debatable. Yes Mike certainly didn’t make her feel good when he went too far (note that it wasn’t the entire blowup that was summarized, just the harsh parts and that’s what he feels guilty for). But I don’t think he was the only one who made her feel like that. You could easily say Paulo did for all his womanizing while showing he had affections for lucy yet turned her down when she practically threw herself at him. That’s the biggest one I could think of but i’m sure the others probably played smaller roles in her state of mind. So again it’s debatable that Mike was “the one”, I think you guys are giving him a bit too much credit there.

You have a point. He did not drive her to self-hate alone. Other factors put her into a depression. But, he was the finisher. She already doubted herself when she came to him. That plus her trust in him put her in a receptive mood. Then, when he attacked, she believed him more than herself. He is not guilty of weakening her natural defenses. But he is guilty of providing the ammo and pulling the trigger. Not the most responsible for what happened, but the one at which the buck stops.

Mike may have reconciled things on his own, outside the hospital, but believe you me, doing the same with others around you is COMPLETELY different. Now that everyone knows the truth - now that others have openly asked the same questions he’s been asking himself - now that it looks like he’s about to release the dams, with others who have been affected around him, THIS is where the healing can really begin.

It’s a rough, bittersweet road, but reaching the end of the journey together is so worthwhile. Good luck, you crazy kids!

You know, I’m surprised no one has pointed this out yet: while most people have mentioned how sad this is for Abbey to see Daisy act the way she is, the entire situation is also an example of success for Abbey.

The entire situation shows that Abbey’s anger management therapy is working and is a massive success. A lot of readers predicted that Abbey would explode on Mike after Daisy hugged him, but not only did Abbey NOT lash out, he actually kept his cool. He’s still keeping his cool (well, as much as one can in a situation like this) and trying to rationalize it to the best of his ability. This is something that Abbey most likely would have never done until now.

I’ve been pondering… how is this going to affect Mike and Sandy’s relationship? Mike is suddenly rediscovering everything that made him like Lucy in the first place… at once. Maybe it’ll overpower his love for Sandy, and he’ll go to Lucy, and…?

Naw. No way is Mike and Lucy happening. Taeshi told us flat-out in the FAQs of the site… wait, now it’s gone. Huh. It was there… perhaps…
No. No way would Lucy accept that. The boy that she loved, who rejected her love, who then proceeded to break her soul into a thousand pieces, come back crying, confessing his love for her? If she has any self-respect whatsoever, she would not go back with him, and even then, you can’t love someone who has broken you to that point.
Last reason: I don’t think Mike would break up with Sandy after all the efforts he put into their relationship.

It was Sandy who first put the idea in his mind that Lucy was being cruel to him. This could make him feel a bit angry towards her, a slight amount. This and his rediscovered feelings will definitely put strain on their relationship, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

TL;DR: MikexLucy is not happening, but MikexSandy could have trouble.

*Sigh* Mike and Lucy would’ve been so cute together before Mike started disliking her :( The tragedy of it all

So yeah… mike is feeling the true extention of what he had done… a little late… now nobody knows where is lucy.. just her brother and he will no reveal that so easily… so it will be dificult to find her as for paulo as for mike o whoever, as a last predictable option to see lucy again in the neiborhood is that she comes back, but obviously she will no be the same… but is just a long term prediction… wonder what has taeshi planed…

“Mike is suddenly rediscovering everything that made him like Lucy in the first place”

I don’t really think that’s what is going on here, it’s just all the talk of Lucy has made Mike reflect on his harsh words he said to her. I don’t think Mike wants a relationship with Lucy or anything like that, but I do think he regrets going to far in “December”. I think that’s what the past few pages have been about, not really him saying he’s hard-up for Lucy again.

I don’t understand. Lucy has a weird personality (she’s a bit loner, she only trust her pets, prickly with some friends and so on) just because of Mike’s fault. She felt abandoned when Mike met Sandy and almost forgot about her, only to crawl back crying to Lucy when Sandy leaves. A bit egotistical from Mike, if you ask me. Maybe Daisy doesn’t know all the truth, but if she’s a good friends of Mike and Lucy, she SHOULD know why Lucy act this way.

why do I keep reading comments,

First off Mike did not deserve all this, second he did not deserve any of the bad things that happened to him prior to these events.

Lucy spurned Mikes advances and when he left her due to her behavior and treatment of him not to mention how much time and energy he put into making HER feel happy (this was a whole plot point for a time with a character even explaining it for fraks sake, it did happen stop pretending Lucy didn’t push Mike away) He found solace in someone else, at this point Lucy realizes she’s wrong (yes she did and yes she was) but it’s too late.

THIS is where Mike has some blame as he goes too far in setting her straight, he had every right to be on his own and be happy in the way he wanted there was no reason that he had to sacrifice everything just to make Lucy and the readers happy.

Mike was wrong, he has been feeling guilty about it, he even tried to make it up and set things right with Lucy before she jumped off the edge, and has been feeling bad since in almost every…. single… page!

He feels bad, Lucy acted stupid, please get over it. /end rant

That said, very nice page, love the layout, especially how it transitions between character reactions.

Deserve is not the right word. It implies some kind of justice that is not in play here. I think that he needed this to happen to learn from his mistake.

You say that she spurned Mike. That’s not exactly true. There was never any confession, and she never directly said no. She ran away. Now, why did she do that? Well, most of her experiences with love are sexual harassment. And, there was an attempted rape. I doubt that she would take sexual advances well from anyone.

When she realized that she had been a bad friend, she tried to become a better one. I see no (well very little) attempt to gain his love. She knew he was taken and wanted to “just be honest for once”. And then he hurt her as much as he could because he thought she was trying to take his happiness. He got her to hate herself because he knew just what ammo to use. And he just realized what he actually did to her. Previously he felt guilt, but now he feels the extent of her pain. Empathy hurts.

Can you really spurn someone’s love/sexual advances if you are ten years old at the time?

No seriously.

We give Lucy so much baggage for no being ready for Mike at EIGHT or TEN! Mike was WAY too early to be confessing, just as his weird kindergarten relationship with Sandy was too early.

I’m all for love at all ages, but really when we are children we have no clue what actual love entails. Or how to handle it. I think often romantic love at such ages is near impossible because of the major life inexperience and I think Mike was just rushing into all of it based on someone he was trying to mimic (Maybe his parents or something). I’d wager Mike didn’t really know who he loved romantically and he was just going through the motions.

I certainly didn’t think about boys romantically at ten, and if I did it was fleeting, “I hope he’ll be my friend” sort of thing. Lucy was totally justified in being really scared and confused at what he was doing in her room.

i cant believe there are people actually blaming abbey for being jealous lmao
the poor guy suffered more than everyone in this entire comic thanks to his f*cked up past and you’d expect someone who only feels comfortable around girls (i noticed so recently after re-reading, abbey respects some guys but he’s overall only comfortable around women, probably because of the scar his father left in his memories) to be jealous and over protective. he is not being a whiny bastart and possessive douche, i mean holy cow he’s even /excusing/ her to others telling them it’s the alcohol speaking. he’s selfless to the point that he doesn’t blame either mike or daisy, and i bet he doesn’t even dislike mike a little bit regarding the whole daisy thing.

before you hate on the one character who is the most emotionally destroyed out of everyone, remember that most of you guys excused either lucy for being selfish or mike for being a douche, two characters that don’t even have half the problems abbey had to deal with his entire life. I’m not saying that the other characters have no right to be emotional because they don’t have worse problems, but abbey sure as hell has as much right as they do to be so.

@Anbellz Okay, so why did she bring Abbey?/Why did Abbey come? Also, WHAT. NO. “been to the therapy sessions”?? SHE HAS? How come I never saw/read that? Did I miss a section? Are you saying Daisy would be enough of an ******* to cross into that REALLY PRIVATE AND PERSONAL space of Abbey’s? Why would she have gone to his therapy sessions? MAYBE he told her, but from his characterization so far, I’d guess he’s still keeping a lot to himself, AND THAT IS MORE THAN OKAY. If what Abbey needs to do is work it out with himself & a therapist, fine. Daisy might have talked to his mom(adoptive), but I HIGHLY DOUBT she would have ever talked to his therapist/analyst/psychiatrist/social worker/counselor. Wanna know why I doubt that? Do you? IT’S BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE UNREAL TO THE MOST DISGUSTING AND ****ED UP DEGREE. Counselors are confidential, and if they were going to talk to ANYONE, it would be the mom, not the sweet-as-pie, too-nice-to-be-honest, full-of-sunshine-and-******** girlfriend.

If she has talked to his mom, she should know that bringing Abbey around alcohol would be unhealthy, dangerous, and would expose him to all sorts of new stimuli that would be cruel. I’m not saying it’s on her that he may have begun drinking, I’m not saying it’s on her that he stayed, I’m saying the two of them should have realized that he shouldn’t be there, and I’m saying that since she clearly still has feelings for Mike(if she wants him, she can have him, for all I care. I’m not telling her not to have feelings), and she decided to drink, she might have taken a beat to think about how that would stick Abbey with being responsible for her, and that she might do something dumb while drunk that would provide more negative stimuli to his already bleak environment.
TL;DR Don’t act like you know how counseling works, don’t make assumptions about how much Daisy knows, and really, try analysis/therapy/counseling before you decide you know everything about how it works.

PS: So far it seems like Daisy has been the right person for Abbey in that she doesn’t ask questions and waits for him to tell her what he wants her to know. You seem to think she is the type to really go butt her head in places it doesn’t belong. I think you’re wrong, but if you want to explain your reasoning for thinking that A) that would be a good thing for her to do, and B) she would do that, PLEASE DO.

Pretty sure I’m not reading the same comic as you people. Mikey tried to tell Lucy he liked her, she didn’t take it serious, he moved on, she melts down, she acts desperate, he gets annoyed, she keep it up, he blows up says unpleasant words, she gets depressed, he feels guilty, she detaches herself emotionally, he tries to patch things up, she causes drama and leaves.

The situation up to this point is not a result of mikey being a bad person, he never harmed her besides.Paulo says some negative things in Lucy’s face yet no one mentions that or how he comments how violent she is.

Mike’s actions in December were not justified, but they were a reaction to Lucy’s mistreatment of him (and it *is* mistreatment, as she caused him physical pain for menial reasons. I would qualify it as abuse.) At the same time, Lucy’s actions towards Mike were horrible, but they were a misguided reaction to years of rejection and extreme emotional dependence. This is not a black and white scenario, nor should it be interpreted as one.
One should not forget that these are teenagers, who as such are not immune to impulsive decisions based on momentary emotions. Now consider that the emotions in question were not momentary, and had been building on themselves for years.
Mike ripping into Lucy the way he did was wrong, but understandable. Lucy’s mistreatment of Mike was not due to malice but deep psychological issues. Both were wrong. And it’s about time Mike’s friends woke up to the fact that the way they were interpreting Mike and Lucy’s relationship caused serious problems for Mike and Lucy both. Nobody is in the right here.

Holy crap; I just realized something. This is almost the Mike version of the massive diss he gave Lucy in December. The part where, after saying his little tirade, he lights up realizing he needs to tell his mother of Sandy’s visit in front of Lucy and leaves her to wallow in her misery.
Only instead of Lucy being the reciever and Mike being the antagonizer, it’s Mike being the reciever and Daisy the antagonizer (even though she meant no malicious intent when leaving), the only person who seemed to understand in that moment.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it…

For all those who thought Abbey was a goner:

He didnt actually get drunk; He was the only one who hated the taste, so he just took a sip. He might feel some of the effects of being drunk for a while- Say, 5-15 minutes; But nothing serious.

Abbey is not supposed to have experience with alcohol, right? Isn’t reaching for the bottle an instinct you only develop after you have actual experience with drinking?

As someone who had her first drink at 24, it’s a completely neutral liquid to me. A bottle of whine is as inviting to me as a bottle of olive oil, I have no urge to drink it at all.
