It’s honestly so interesting to see Mike swing back and forth between being consumed with guilt over what he did to Lucy and longing for his old relationship with her and this dark resentful obsession. He can’t accept what it means if she isn’t the one causing his problems because his relationship with Sandy is built too strongly on the idea of her being a faultless ideal. Sandy gets a lot of flack in neglecting Mike which is fair but I also think it’s worth considering that this mindset isn’t fair to her either. No one can live up to the Sandy in Mike’s head at this point.

Yeah, also she’s a teen too. Young teens who are still learning how to relationship often don’t know how to end them when they should. Realistically she has grown more confident and has a busy world that Mike really isn’t apart of. She doesn’t need his validation anymore. However her controlling Mother probably doesn’t allow much space for her to get closer to or date anyone else. Otherwise, a new serious relationship may have pushed her to end things. It makes sense that she would just let her old childhood relationship linger on and on even if it doesn’t fit her anymore. It’s hard for anyone hurt someone they care about, and if Mike was in a better place and more present in his own life at his age he would normally have drifted also.

Thank god Paulo said what I’ve been saying since FOREVER. Everyone has tried with Mike and his Sandy issue, but he lashes out no matter what, and I have no clue what his deal is.
